CNN's debate was no fair fight (www.salon.com)

I don’t know what was wrong with Joe Biden. It’s hard to imagine that they ever would have asked for a debate if this was the way he is normally. We’ve seen him recently holding press conferences and giving speeches and he seemed to be fine. They said he had a cold so maybe he really was on drugs — Nyquil or Mucinex or...

Ghostalmedia,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

Problem is, the lower information voters don’t know that Trump is lying, and Biden couldn’t point that out in a clear and concise way. He was soft and rambling and wasn’t campaigning competently on that stage.

He needed to make the case against Trump. Which isn’t hard.

The republicans finally got what they wanted. They’ve basically killed the government’s ability to regulate.

Get ready to be fucked by corporations and billionaires in lots of new ways.

Ghostalmedia,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

What will happen is that no regulations will get passed, or they’ll continue ask their special interest to write laws for themselves because Congress is too busy to do law making. Ugh.

“Biden will have been at Camp David for a full week before the debate, and … they’re probably experimenting with getting doses right, getting him medicine before the debate,” said Jackson, who is currently running for Congress in Texas with Trump’s endorsement.

Yeah, I’m sure an 80 year old guy on a week-long, medical grade, stimulant bender would be FULL of energy come the debate.

No holes in that logic at all.

Ghostalmedia,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

What if, crazy idea, he agreed to the debate because he was perfectly fine and able to debate?

Probably too simple to be true. The secret camp David stimulant testing lab is probably what actually happened.

Why is there two gigantic rolls on the ground?

Doubtful. He’s very far left of the modern GOP on almost all other issues. Third line on his website is his gender pronouns.

Wasn’t that Reagan?

Only in America. Other counties campaign for a few weeks. The US turns it into a 12 month fund raising and media spectacular, with primaries at the halfway point.

The Daily had a good piece about this race. Apparently AIPAC specifically targeted him because he already had that fire alarm thing tarnishing him, and his district had a strong challenger that people were very familiar with.

AIPAC knows money alone can’t win a race. They did what a lot of political action groups do now. They want to use their money effectively, so they specifically picked a race that looked like it could be influenced. Then they threw record breaking amounts of money at it.

Your favorite video game doesn't need a remake | Digital Trends (www.digitaltrends.com)

Curious about y’alls opinions on this. I like the idea of getting new people to experience an older game by aligning it to modern graphics and accessibility standards. But capitalizing on nostalgia with quick updates to that make it look modern rather than making new games seems like just more of studios trying to squeeze...

@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

IMHO, it depends on the game and the remake. The old Halo games are probably the best case study on what to do and what not to do.

Halo CE - Don’t do that. The game was old enough to warrant major texture, geometry, and animation upgrades, but the developer also completely changed the art style.

Halo 2 - Do this. It’s the old art style, but with more detail. The game looks like how you think it looked, until you toggle the old graphics on and see how it ACTUALLY looked.

Halo 3 - Do this. The game was in good enough shape to just need a few frame rate, texture, and resolution bumps. New animation and geometry wasn’t needed, and avoiding that was the right call.

Ghostalmedia,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I wonder why they never added the option to combo new visuals and old sounds. MCC will only allow old audio with the old graphics.

That said, it’s still one of those games where I get together with my middle aged friends, and no one thinks much about the game’s in-game presentation until someone toggles the graphics, then people suddenly realize a LOT more has been updated that they realize.

IMHO, they did a better job than most at recapturing how the game felt when you played it back in the day. Not all of the creative choices were perfect, but nailed a lot of it.

Ahh yes - the political strategy of taking one on the chin with voter confidence, by staring into space and becoming a viral meme, so your opponent thinks you’re slow, and lowers their guard during the debates, that the persuadable independent voters totally ignore.

Bullet proof strategy. I’m fired up!

If she’s smart, she’ll leave the hyphen out. Anyone with a hyphenated name will tell you that’s it’s annoying as fuck. A lot of digital products and records don’t support hyphens and throw errors when they see the character.

Ghostalmedia,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

That and changing your name is actually pretty annoying, and it only gets more annoying when you have a lot of assets with a particular legal name tied to them.

She has lawyers and accountants that will do a lot of the heavy lifting, but it’s still an obnoxious pain the butt.

It’s pretty common to see people change their name when they get married, but come divorce time say “nah, fuck that, I’m not doing that shit again.”

The dumb ones will. The smart ones know that demagoguery and authoritarianism can impact trade and currency valuation, and investing in them is a great way to lose a lot of money.

Ghostalmedia,

Nope. The rich are greedy and I’m just saying that not all of them think Trump is smart investment.

Ghostalmedia,

Not every billionaire thinks Trump is the best way to get richer. Many think he’s a good way to lose a lot of money.

Greed gonna greed. Some billionaires think Trump will make them money, others think the opposite.

“I think you’re probably right,” Alito replies. “On one side or the other — one side or the other is going to win. I don’t know. I mean, there can be a way of working — a way of living together peacefully, but it’s difficult, you know, because there are differences on fundamental things that really can’t be compromised. They really can’t be compromised. So it’s not like you are going to split the difference.”

In other words, dude wants some Taliban shit and wants to be able to control people are not prescribed to his religion.

If his family doesn’t want to have abortions, or wants their kids to learn about god in school, there is nothing stopping them from living that way. Just don’t force me to live that way.

This thing specifically remind me of the corruption the USSR / Russia has struggled with for decades.

The corrupt politicians staff the justice system with people who rule in favor of the corrupt politicians and their cronies. If you investigate the people / party that appointed you, you’re out.

The US has never gone full-Russia, but Trump wants to do that. Previously the rich and powerful have simply been able to get a leg up because they were able to outspend the justice dept. Under Trump, the justice team will be on the same team as the people they should be prosecuting.

Immersion aside, I appreciate the craft that goes into realistic in-engine cutscenes. Making something look good, without pre-rendering, is a particularly challenging constraint.
