HeavyRaptor,

It’s okay. I played Borderlands 3 with voices off, only sfx/background sounds/music. I’m sure I can do the same with this. Maybe turn picture off too while I’m at it.

HeavyRaptor,

Let’s hope it isn’t. Even though civ 6 had multiple interesting aspects and in certain ways it was objectively better than 5, I just could not look past the ugly presentation.

HeavyRaptor,

In 6 your buildings in cities are categorised into districts. The districts take up a hex on the grid and receive bonuses based on adjacent hexes. A large part of the game revolves around planning your districts in every city as once they are placed, they cannot be moved. This is a slightly different playstyle compared to 5 where only the city location itself matters.

Some other changes were around science, policies and eras. You unlock policy cards which you can swap out for different bonuses when needed instead of a constant effect. Policies are just as important as science this time around, and researching science and policies is boosted by actions in the game instead of only using Great scientists/writers. Every set amount of turns the world enters a different era, which also offers different policy cards for that period.

There are no (or few) multiplicative bonuses. Having more cities is always beneficial.

HeavyRaptor,

There is definitely a buzz, the SPT (single player Tarkov mod) servers have been constantly overloaded for days now

HeavyRaptor,

Is there?

HeavyRaptor,

Apparently there is! There is a mod for SPT called MPT (now renamed to fika). It has a github but the download is only available through their discord. Took me a while to find it. Gonna see if we can get it working tomorrow.

Games that still need more patience: what games released a year ago (or older) are you waiting for a sale on? Or that need another patch?

Other than a slew of Nintendo titles that maybe hopefully will come down in price (the patient gamers’ bane), I have my eye on the next time Divinity: Original Sin 2 goes on sale. A friend who never plays anything other than WoW loved playing Larian’s newest with me and I’m trying to get her to pick this up. Pretty sure...

HeavyRaptor,

Helldivers. $40 is a bit spicy for my friend group. We don’t have a good enough track record to keep playing a game to justify full price.

HeavyRaptor,

Low key I’ve been checking in on Fallout London every now and then. I have no expectations, as these projects seem to fail most of the time before thay can even release, but if they actually manage to finish it, I’ll definitely play it. Another one in keeping on my radar is Morrowind in Skyrim, that one is in a much earlier stage though.

HeavyRaptor,

I’m also a Swiftkey holdover, trying Heliboard now…

Is there a keyboard that can do haptic feedback while typing and enable multiple languages at the same time. These two features are really missing for me.

HeavyRaptor,

Thanks! I went back and eventually found the settings for them. You can even configure the length of the haptic feedback which is great.

HeavyRaptor,

Does this include Candy Crush an mobile gaming in general? I’d say that people who play something on their phone every now and then won’t be foaming from their mouths because of something like this. Then again, they don’t buy the games that we’re talking about here so that’s why I’m asking (I checked your link but couldn’t find this info)

HeavyRaptor,

I love seeing these two assholes fight.

I think this is good though. Another data point of Apple not allowing true competition on their platform. Oh, you want your own app store? BAM! You’re banned. Especially now that it seemed Epic was gonna comply with this last set of ridiculous rules.

We might get a proper way to sideload if they keep this up. We’ll see…

HeavyRaptor,

I think it’s only third party appstores for now. That’s why I’m hoping this will encourage stricter regulation

HeavyRaptor,

(without having watched it) Why are these videos always top 10 upcoming games and never top 10 games that just released last month?

I’d be much more interested in stuff that’s already out instead of hyping myself up for something that might come out and be terrible.

HeavyRaptor,

That’s cool that you’re looking forward to it. It’s nice to have something to be excited for. I guess I’ve just been burned one too many times to give in to the hype again.

I’m not even really talking about this video specifically, just that these type of videos are usually hyping stuff up, getting clicks, and in the end the games are often a letdown.

Which video games have been trapped on a hardware platform (console/handheld/headset/etc.) that you wish would be ported well?

I was reading about Oculus accounts that haven't been assimilated into Meta accounts being erased, & it got me thinking about games trapped on hardware platforms again. What are some of the games you wish would have good ports across different hardware?

@games

HeavyRaptor,

The Infinity Blade series on the iPhone. You can’t buy them anymore and I’m not sure you can download them even if you own them. They wouldn’t work on a modern iPhone anyway because you need some old version of ios. You can’t really emulate it them a useful way either. So the only way would be to get an old iphone/iPod touch, jailbreak it and sideload the .ipa if you can still find it somewhere.

Shame because I really enjoyed those games and anything remaining of the franchise has been absorbed into fortnite meaning there will never be another sequel.

Imagine taking the best game on the platform in its prime, locking it up, and making a fucking fortnite skin out of it. That is the sad tale of Infinity Blade.

HeavyRaptor,

That is amazing! Gonna get this on steam deck! I’m very excited, thank you for sharing!

HeavyRaptor,

Not exactly sure what the server limits are but something like Valheim could work for a large group of people. It’s an open world sandbox so people can divide up and do whatever they want to on the same server (exploring, fighting, mining, building, farming, etc.) Not sure how far you can get in the game in 3 hours though…

Alternatively you could play some sort of team based shooter but there might be a stark skill difference in a competitive setting.

Apparently the star wars bf classic collection has a 32 player co-op mode vs ai which sounds amazing to me, but I’ve never tried it before

HeavyRaptor,

How can the picture be real of your eyes aren’t real?

HeavyRaptor,

Pirates! is amazing

  • Capturing ships to make your own fleet
  • Searching for lost treasure
  • Many different ships and upgrades to choose from (go war canoe)
  • Sword fighting
  • Wooing governor’s daughters (somewhat similar in gameplay to sword fighting)
  • (mediocre) stealth and land battles
  • Free your family from the grasp of Baron Raymondo (Evil!)
  • Battle famous pirates and take their ships
HeavyRaptor,

Along what others have mentioned, we still have the ‘Old lady sitting in front of the toilet building’. It’s less common these days but there are still some of these around in eastern Europe. She keeps the facilities clean(er) and takes money from entrants. They usually have a little stand or something.

HeavyRaptor,

Escape from Tarkov has a very good single player mod called SPTAKI

HeavyRaptor,

Yep sorry, just read the post didn’t check the link

HeavyRaptor,

Among other things I’ve been playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GAMMA which is an expansion of stalker anomaly which is a mod rehash of the original stalker games. It’s a single player immersive-sim/fps/looter-shooter/survival/sandbox game set in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Very tough, but has been really fun (maybe a bit infuriating at times). I recommend it to those who like a bit of pain. It has replaced single player Tarkov in my rotation for now.

I’ve been exploring the zone, finding and repairing guns, sitting at campfires, fighting bandits and boars, and running away from other more dangerous things.

Also it’s completely free btw.

HeavyRaptor,

I never could either. I recommend you configure the durability for dropped guns and armour in your mod config. The game can be very stingy as set to default. Good luck!

HeavyRaptor,

I also run an ultra wide monitor. The sharp geometry thing happens to me too, mostly inside houses where there is like a small lip between rooms, or on stairs. Otherwise the camera seems fine. Maybe playing with the sensitivities or fov might help. Fov also seems to be calculated in a weird way, I have it set to 90 but it feels a lot wider.

Maybe it’s just low fps? I’m only getting around 70 fps with a 3080 (3440x1440) at mostly default graphics settings (but it feels smooth enough for me) .

HeavyRaptor,

I don’t think 3rd world countries would have the Internet infrastructure for wide spread adoption of cloud gaming. Also it’s not like they were giving the games away, those were full-price titles on stadia.

Even if there was a demand for something like this you want to deploy you product first in countries with as much disposable income as possible. If people can’t afford the prices how are you going to make money? (not just in the first few years, but ever) In the end someone has to pay for the servers and GPUs.

People are not saying it wasn’t functional. Just not financially viable.

Recommend a game for me to play with my partner

My partner and I occasionally play games together, but they pretty much only play word puzzle games on their own. I’m not very good at word games though, and they don’t have very good spatial skills, so we frequently find ourselves mismatched. We have a switch and a single decent gaming pc, and a pretty old laptop....

HeavyRaptor,

I found this really difficult to read/understand this in places with the neutral pronouns. Anyway a cool little coop puzzle game is Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. It’s an asymmetrical puzzle game where one of you is trying to defuse a bomb (played on a computer) while the other is trying to give directions without seeing the bomb. It might fit your asymmetrical needs you described.

Good gaming experiences with no HUD?

I’m starting to find that HUDs in games clutter the screen and take away from being fully immersed in the game. I like games that force you to pay attention to what’s going on in the game and not numbers/markers on the edges of the display. What are some of your favorite games to play with no HUD? Here are a few of mine:...

HeavyRaptor,

Even further in this direction is Escape from Tarkov. I don’t care for the multilayer, but there is a single player mod called SPT-AKI which I highly recommend

HeavyRaptor,

Not main menu but the MGS V deployment music while you’re picking out your gear really gets you amped for your next mission. (from 1:10)

HeavyRaptor,

It really evoked a feeling of smallness in me. Namely how small and devoid of content the universe feels.

This is made worse because every inhabited planet I go to has some elaborate situation just waiting for me to solve it. For example: I land on the landing pad, walk 30 meters through a gate and am greeted by a hostage situation in a bank where the hostage negotiator is going to let me, some random, go do his job instead of him, trusting me with the lives of everyone involved without even blinking.

HeavyRaptor,

I actually liked the looks 4 years ago when they announced it but by now I’ve kinda gotten bored of it. The design has aged even before the vehicle is out.

HeavyRaptor,

It’s just not an exceptional game… I get that some like it, it has some great bits like the ship builder and the improved gunplay since Fallout4, but overall it falls short. Starfield’s greatest flaw isn’t the constant loading screens, the limited role playing mechanics, the dated engine, the empty planets, or the 10 other things people were dunking on it when it came out. You can definitely feel the death by a 1000 cuts, but it’s major flaw for me is that the game is just bland, boring, and safe which in 2023 (especially for this type of story driven game) is unforgivable.

HeavyRaptor,

I really enjoyed the beta, it felt really fresh and fluid, kinda bummed it’s over. Does anyone know a similar game to play until this comes out?

HeavyRaptor,

Not at all, you can use Heroic launcher to add games individually

HeavyRaptor,

The actual bundles were super cool back in the day (I guess they still do them sometimes). Its a shame everything has to be a subscription

HeavyRaptor,

I’m excited for this. Its a shame they don’t allow dlss upscaling to work with AMD frame generation. Hopefully they can work out the kinks with vrr though.

HeavyRaptor,

Do you think it will be possible to use the fsr frame generation tech in combination with dlss upscaling?
