I played it on GeForce Now so my experience was pretty solid from the get go. I dislike open world games and I still played the hell out of that game.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Eh. NMS is unfair because it is literally a different game today then when it launched.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Can you be A LOT more specific about your skill set and experience?

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

For me, the old internet died when Silverfish Longboarding moved to Facebook. The most concerning is the current move of support pages and forums to Discord.

Tupperware?!? In this household we wash the plastic takeout containers and reuse them for years until the become brittle and shatter.

JoMiran,

I want to see the mod community take that turd and turn it into an amazing game. It’d be hilarious.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Also, shit food and beer pretending to not be fell out of fashion. See TGI Fridays, Chili’s, Outback, etc. None of them are doing well even though they were killing it in the 90’s and 2Ks.

Cultural differences always trip me. I spent most of my middle/high school years in the Caribbean and the attitude among guys was that the first orgasm didn’t count and was in fact just the start of the session. There was almost a hurry to “pop” the first one so the real fun could begin.

EDIT: It looks like I misunderstood the comment. Derp.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Oooohhh, yeah. A popped condom would definitely stop the fun. That make more sense than how I read it.

Being mad at an independent landlord is like being mad at the dog shit you just stepped on instead of the motherfucker that didn’t pickup after his dog.

Many independent landlords are people who decided to take her everything they had on a derelict home that nobody was going to buy, fix it up, and make it available. These are people that dream to get out from under the boot and are willing to bet it all for a chance. A landlord with one or two rentals are probably struggling to keep their head above water and almost for sure have a full time job as well as the maintenance of the rental, and probably the fixing up of another.

This is how the system is rigged. If you want to mortgage a house, you need to have a lot of money down, steady income, and a good credit score. Mortgaging a fully remodeled house in order to rent it doesn’t work because you’ll never be able to rent it for that much. Mortgaging an ugly house to rent doesn’t work most of the time because you need to remodel it “nice” and you need to find a tenant willing to pay a premium for a pig wearing lipstick. Most times, even when the house is done up, the neighborhood isn’t. Next up, if you want to mortgage a derelict house that you plan to bring back from the dead, wether to rent or live in, YOU CAN’T. The only way to buy those homes is cash. In other words, neither homebuyers nor wannabe landlords have access to the only homes that might provide a good value. Wanna guess who can? Investment funds. They are the ones raping renters, not the poor schmuck that’s trying to play the game the way they were told it was supposed to work. That schmuck is fucked, they just don’t know it.

My wife and I owe the current life we lead in great part to a lady that decided to rent her duplex to two college students for $275 twenty years ago. She died and her daughter sold all the houses the lady owned (she owned the entire street in that ghetto) to a fund. Each duplex (meaning, half a house) now goes for $1200 (still a ghetto) and now requires a credit check and two months deposit.

Get mad at the rigged system, not at the other suckers stuck in it. Don’t be a crab in the bucket.

EDIT: There are good independent landlords and there are bad ones. There is no such thing as a good real estate investment funds.

I have been with wife almost thirty years. I wish it had occurred to me to ask this so many times before saying something. So many times.

Do you play games, or do you play a game endlessly. If it’s games then it might be easier to sprinkle other activities into the mix like learning to play a musical instrument, etc. If it’s a game, especially if it’s a live service game, MMO, hatch’s, etc, then they might have successfully tapped into “your formula”, in which case if recommend dropping the game entirely. Games like that are specifically designed to keep you playing indefinitely.

I’m pretty happy with Lemmy and still ok with YouTube. It feels like old times, BEFORE social media sites and apps re-centralized the Internet.

What we need is a searchable database for the fediverse. The ways to find communities in lemmy and individuals to follow on Mastodon could be better.

JoMiran,

Don’t just blame execs, we need to blame ourselves. We have chosen price over quality for decades. Because things were cheap, we could get new things more often, and so we did. The appetite for keeping and using this one thing for most of our lives completely disappeared. Now, we don’t have a choice.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

True, but not what I meant. You see it all the time where people make it a point to buy cheap because they consider the thing disposable. Even when they can afford the quality brand, they opt for the junk line because they don’t care to keep it long term. We go through so much disposable clothing, for example, that even the counties we were shipping our donated goods too don’t want them any more.

@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, that’s the point of the article.

EDIT: To clarify, it didn’t use to be that way. There use to be a big difference between “top tier” and “bottom tier”. Now, not so much. If you want true top tier stuff, you often have to go custom and/or hand crafted.

John Riccitiello is stepping down as CEO and president of Unity (investors.unity.com)

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Unity (NYSE: U) (the “Company”), the world’s leading platform for creating and growing real-time 3D (RT3D) content, today announced that John Riccitiello will retire as President, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and a member of the Company’s Board of Directors, effective immediately....

Did the same at EA (IIRC).

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

As someone with his own company I can assure you that you don’t. Life is a lot easier when it’s not your baby on the line. Do you think he’s going to lose sleep over Unity? Not even a little.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Definitely. Still, if I had that much money, I would do something other than start a company to make more money. I’d try to accomplish something that helps others and makes this world suck a little less. Instead, I’ve focused my entire efforts towards the survival of myself and those close to me.

The article states that Epic intends to keep the game dev pricing unchanged. Free up front, then 5% after the first million dollars in sales.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

I suspect that Unreal 5 is going to make Epic so much money in the coming years. Taking 5% after the first million dollars doesn’t seem like a lot until you remember that the next Witcher and Cyberpunk are both Unreal 5 developments.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m pretty sure Unity showed, quite clearly, that a bait and switch is a bad idea. Plus, Unreal is going after big titles. You don’t fuck with companies that make big titles.

+1

Stating that BG3 is D:OS3 is a massive compliment.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian’s previous game is and they did that one when the studio was a fraction of the size it is now and on a miniscule budget when compared to BG3. It’s just a wonderful studio, full of talent and enthusiasm that starts from the top.

Google is so schizophrenic. I highly recommend Pixel phones. There’s a number of privacy oriented operating systems you can install that directly support Pixel phones because Google is so open with their platform.

Pixel - best privacy phone

Android - worst OS for privacy.

It’s not inflation. It’s price gouging.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Record high prices coinciding with record high profits and plunging cost of good sold, followed by even higher prices. They are testing to see what the pain thresholds are. All that’s gonna happen is that business will start to collapse as consumer spending plummets because people can barely afford to survive. Will the system autocorrect or collapse? Will the government ever enforce consumer protection laws ever again? ¯\(ツ)/¯

“Not really looking for a debate about it tbh.”

No, just the last word. There’s a lot more to it that clearly explains why it’s a systematic failure that led to this, and it’s a lot more complex that just over supply of cash. You can’t stop looking at other facts once you’ve researched just enough to find an answer you’re comfortable with.

JoMiran,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

I have normally used “they, their and them” when referring to a singular person for about twenty years because I thought that “he/she” and “his/hers” looked ridiculous in emails.

For example; “Next time the engineer feels like he/she needs to overhaul the code…” versus “Next time the engineer feels like they need to overhaul the code…”. Clean and simple.

Example of current use:

Bob - “Hey Jo, Frank thinks we should tweak widget X.”

Me - “Yeah well, they don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.”

I don’t think that sounds weird.
