This is anecdotal, but I feel like I’ve encountered a lot more women here than I ever did on reddit

I’ve seen a lot of transphobia on .world since I first joined a year ago. I’m not sure it’s gotten worse.

It sure makes me thankful for the admins and mods on this instance.

But that doesn’t account for how rapidly bigoted the many rural communities in southern MN are. I feel like that’s what brings it down to a B. There are literal sundown communities still there.

I feel scared going through some of those places when I have to go to Minneapolis, and I’m from South Dakota.

I agree with everything you said. I hope we learn to become more accepting of disabled queers, of people who choose to stay closeted, and to continue to talk about Palestine. I was thinking more of the concept of Pride vs. the big city/corporate sanctioned events.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I’m so disappointed in my local Pride this year. I want to vent about it so much, but I would literally dox myself.

I usually carry a flag, but I don’t even plan on going out. I feel like it’s been entirely claimed by cis straight people who lack any depth of understanding about Pride, let’s just put it that way.

@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It doesn’t bother me either, but I feel like this year they’ve taken control of the events here entirely, and everything is being managed by businesses. Literally everything is paywalled, and there’s not even a parade or any outdoor events, and I guarantee that no one will be masking. Can’t help but feel they’ve cut off a big part of the queer community here and that it’s turned into an opportunity for monetization. It doesn’t feel like Pride, like at all.

    And almost always if someone who really knows you thinks outside might help, they’re going to say things like “do you want to go to the park with me?” instead of just saying “you should go outside”

    Sometimes depression is so crushing though that going outside can feel physically impossible

    At least it’s an interesting role. I’ve always played FPS, which seems so vanilla. And I play ESO solo a lot, so about 25% of the time I forget to take off the Ring of the Pale Order when I do dungeons, which prevents being healed.

    Maybe it’s time to try my hand at a bottom build.

    I see this as a good movement. People will argue that Palestine and Pride are two separate things, and while that may be true, we historically persecuted groups need to stick together.

    It’s why Native Lives Matter showed up at the BLM protests. They didn’t say “Oh well, that’s just some other group, not us” because that’s a self-destructive way of thinking.

    And if that’s not enough, queer Palestinians are being murdered by Israel. “Well it’s not like Palestine is exactly LGBTQIA+ friendly.” OK, then that’s all the more reason they need our support! Imagine your life is hard already, you struggle to be accepted for being queer, and now someone is dropping bombs on you, starving you, deliberately trying to kill and maim you and your loved ones.

    No Pride in Genocide. My word of the day is solidarity, and I will die on this hill.
