A synthetic drug ravages youth in Sierra Leone. There's little help, and some people are chained (apnews.com)

In Sierra Leone, a cheap, synthetic drug is ravaging youth. Trash-strewn alleys are lined with boys and young men slumped in addiction. Healthcare services are severely limited. One frustrated community has set up what it calls a treatment center, run by volunteers. But harsh measures can be used....

scoobford,

Unfortunately, cutting drugs with things to make them either cheaper or stronger is pretty common most places, in fact it’s basically universal here. Some weed dealers have relatively uncontaminated stock, but most don’t.

And good fucking luck if you buy any kind of pills or anything.

scoobford,

Not proper cooking to a well temp, but you never really know if proper food safety practices were observed or not.

scoobford,

The democrats are the liberal party. They support abortion, religious freedom, police reform, civil rights (sometimes), drug decriminalization, etc.

That being said, they are trying to encapsulate and entire half of the political spectrum. There’s going to be gaps, disagreements between individual party members, and places where one policy or value has to override another.

scoobford,

Its a retirement vehicle in that it prevents future rent raises from threatening your retirement, not in that you can/should live off of your home’s equity. Nobody wants to go back to work at 85 because their rent doubled.

scoobford,

The fundamental disconnect is that they believe a fetus is a human life.

So to them, you’d be asking for legal permission to do a murder so you don’t have to be responsible for a child. I’m not saying it is correct, but it is internally consistent.

scoobford,

I use a lenovo flip. I love the reversible hinge, but the flip functionality is quite buggy and the build quality is kind of crap.

I’ve been eyeing a framework 13 for years now, but I don’t want to be wasteful by buying a laptop I do not need yet. They look really well supported and easy to work on.

System76 has been a classic for a long time, but I’ve never had the money for one go their units.

scoobford,

We lowkey need a database of how to airgap cars. Spying hardware started being common long enough ago that people aren’t really going to be able to avoid it when buying used, unless they have the time and money to maintain a classic car.

It isn’t just your driving either. They also very commonly log location and audio inside the car as well.

scoobford,

Iirc Mozilla tried, but they all were so terrible everybody got an F according to their (IMO pretty fair) standards.

scoobford,

See, I know what you’re trying to say, but that would unironically be an improvement for most of us…

scoobford,

I had exactly two English teachers who were good, which was all I needed.

One when I was young, taught me how to communicate and understand complex ideas properly.

Another my first year of college, who taught me that deeper meanings and subtleties in fiction wasn’t entirely bullshit. Surprisingly, she did this by making us read Frankenstein and watch Blade Runner.

Everything in the middle though…woof. Learning to write academic papers has no value unless you’re an academic, and the other 10 literature courses I took all just made me hate reading, even the year where we just read my 4 favorite books.

scoobford,

I thought the lightning was just an electric f-150. How is there a fleet of lightning’s with gas engines?

scoobford,

I haven’t had it dissolve plastic per se, but it definitely tastes funky pretty quickly if you’re using the sort not intended to store alcohol.

That being said several popular brands offer plastic versions of their product and it’s basically the same stuff.

scoobford,

Honestly I do the same. Even though the plastic bottles don’t impart flavor, I’m sure they leech something nasty in there.

scoobford,

Salads are just cold foods chopped up and mixed together with some kind of dressing. I.e. fruit salad, caprese salad, egg/chicken/tuna salad, etc.

Using gelatin as the “dressing” is a regional thing. This would be called strawberry cumfart jello here, not strawberry cumfart salad.

I also think only very old people still eat this shit. Gelatin in general is much less popular among young people, who want their food to vaguely resemble food.

scoobford,

Google maps doesn’t account for breaks. They’re assuming you can walk at 3mph, and however much time you need to rest and eat is up to you.

Just like 1 day and 23 hours is only drive time. They’re not accounting for the naps that you will definitely need.

scoobford,

Pretty much the same, actually. The only practical difference in teachings would be “people do bad things because they are fallible and have free will” vs “people do bad things because they are fallible, have free will, and have this guy trying to pervert their sense of morality constantly.”

Of course I think most churches get their teaching on Satan from Dante’s inferno more than they do the gospel.

scoobford,

Yes, but that’s bad too. Legitimacy of government is important, Biden sending out kill squads is only marginally better than Trump sending out kill squads.

scoobford,

This is my partner. Has epilepsy, but no family, money, or insurance.

Ironically since they can only get part time work with flexible hours, they’re stuck in customer service, meaning when their hours get cut they have to doordash to make rent.

scoobford,

The hardware is wholly unremarkable, but the pixel line supports Graphene. Custom Roms are a necessity if you care about privacy even a little bit, but there are other options.

Unfortunately in many places, illegal searches are the rule, not the exception and as such security is almost as critical. If you need security AND privacy there is simply no substitute.

Motorola hardware looks kinda nice though…

scoobford,

And another that was worried the island of Guam would tip over if overpopulated.

And MTGs secret Jewish space lasers thing.

Congresspeople have shockingly little oversight from their constituents.

scoobford,

Sort of. As I understand it, the main issues with the cyber truck’s offroading capability are its weight (it weighs a LOT more than even a large pickup due to being an EV) and the fact that you can’t replace the tires with something more suitable for your intended terrain.

In this case, I think the main issue is the weight on a very soft surface.

scoobford,

We definitely get a little peeved if it’s under 15, but frankly those people aren’t worth getting mad at. Someone else always comes by and makes up for it anyways

Plus, it’s unprofessional, awkward, and generally pointless to actually say something about it.

scoobford,

20% of $25 is $5.

20% of 109% of $25 is $5.45.

I doubt anyone notices.

scoobford,

Technically, anarchism is incompatible with communism, fascism, and socialism, as all of those require the state to exist in some way if undertaken at the national scale.

Anarcho-capitalism makes the most sense of them all. Just say you don’t want a state to exist at all because you want to suck some robber baron/warlord’s cock.

scoobford,

Whoever is making the decisions about distribution and factory management is effectively a state at that point.

There’s also the fact that generally, people want to live in developed nations. You’ll need a military to keep your neighboring countries from taking all your stuff/people/land, and you’ll need some kind of police force to keep those few assholes you have internally from just kidnapping people or stealing everything that isn’t nailed down whatever.

scoobford,

Communism requires someone to distribute goods and assign labor. That person is effectively going to be your state at essentially any scale above a family.

And if you want to live in a developed society, you need a state to defend against invasion and colonization, arrest murderers and rapists, and regulate trade (even if trade is only external).

scoobford,

I can. It is definitely not nearly as much fun though. More of a “just get the job done so I can go back to what I was doing”.

scoobford,

Pretty much, yes. Not having sunlight and a sense of outside is depressing, and if you choose to try and peep on my wedding tackle, that’s your decision.

I close them if something actually comes up, like a creepy neighbor or police presence.

scoobford,

We could just…not lose our shit if we see slightly too much of someone’s body.

An extra quarter inch of titty just isn’t that big of a deal. We literally all have nipples.
