Did people think that it was just the US military encouraging CoD to bump recruitment numbers? The world’s biggest franchise is rife with other companies with fingers in a pie.

No crime was committed here, this was simply a business decision. Why is this being reported as if this was a huge revelation?

pastermil,

Because it draws more clicks to their site.

bionicjoey,

Because gun manufacturers are evil, shitty companies that stoke the divisive gun debate in the US because it gives them free publicity. And because we want to believe that our entertainment products are made by companies that agree with us about that subject and will refuse to do business with gun companies.

Obviously this is a highly naïve worldview, but hopefully that explains why it is newsworthy.

stillwater,

It’s not. No language in this article is written like it’s a huge revelation. It’s just reporting on a document recently made public.

I am very dumb. Thank you.

PlzGivHugs,

Not suprising. Paying to have your weapon included in a modern military shooter is pretty tame compared to a lot of product placement.

Nothing wrong with that.

popcap200,

For those wondering, it was the ACR in Modern Warfare 2.
