abuttandahalf,

Get fucked lol. That’s what you get for imposing genocidal sanctions on Yemen and funding the genocide in Gaza.

@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

Like how the top 3 comments are concerned about the ecological impacts and not the fact that attacking a supply line was probably the first thing thought of after the invention of war.

TheFonz,

The attacks have also disrupted aid shipments to both Yemen and Sudan, which is gripped by its own monthslong war. In recent days, the International Rescue Committee said it suspended its aid shipments to Port Sudan through the Red Sea over long delays and drastically increased costs.

Also:

The approximately 21,000 metric tons of ammonium phosphate sulfate fertilizer that the vessel was carrying presents an environmental risk in the Red Sea,”

At this point, anyone unquestionably defending the Houthis as this noble fighting force standing for Hamas has a questionable narrative they are pushing. And I see the same person commenting all over and glazing for the houthis like they are the second coming of the Messiah.

merthyr1831,

I’ve yet to see eco-fascists going “tHanKs HouThis yOu SaVEd gAzA!!” shedding a single tear for Gaza, where Israeli uranium, lead, and phosphorus have turned the very soil that once hosted olive trees into an uninhabitable zone rife with cancer, blight, and birth defects.

Land_Strider,

You won’t. They will happily buy tons of utilities, food and other resources from their colonies all over the world, including oil to wage their wars and plastic shit to use once and throw, for dirt cheap. When you block their pleasure and oppression toys, they will cry “think of the children, think of the environment, you barbarians that can’t carpet bomb or nuke people to stand behind your claims!” while ordering the newest Iphone on their way to change their 3 year old cars for whatever came out this week.

Linkerbaan,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks israel and Joe Biden.

DoomBot5,

Ah yes, they were definitely the ones that shot at this ship and sank it.

Linkerbaan,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Why is this British ship illegally trespassing in Yemeni waters? Did israel stop their Genocide in Gaza?

DoomBot5,

Because it was in international waters and has nothing to do with the war, yet was still sunk by terrorists?

Linkerbaan,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

That’s weird. Can you tell me why Britain is bombing Yemen if they are not at war to defend israel? Is it a “special military operation”?

DoomBot5,

That ship was bombing Yeman? Last I checked it was carrying civilian cargo across international waters when it was attacked by terrorists launching rockets at them.

Linkerbaan,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Let’s israelify it: The ship could have been carrying a Nulear bomb for israel to throw on Gaza. Which is why it should have gone through the Yemeni terrorist border screening checkpoint to make sure it was not delivering nuclear weapons to israel.

But since they didn’t it’s now a valid target :)

DoomBot5,

Yeah no, this is just terrorists deliberately targeting civilians since they’re incapable of targeting military targets with any success. The same exact thing Hamas has been doing for years.

TheFonz,

No one thinks through the things they say here. It’s just what feels good in the moment. At this point any country has free reign to attack any vessel they desire in international waters. Shit, Japan should start launching rockets at Chinese civilian ships because of Hong Kong/Taiwan; US should attack any Russian civilian ships because of Ukraine; any other military operations we should be conducting around the world on behalf of anyone?

Linkerbaan,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Strange, when t came to Ukraine we had to block Swift and seize all Russian assets.

But when israel is comitting literal Genocide we really care about international law but only when it’s people trying to stop the Genocide. Because we’re doing the Genocide and that’s fine.

TheFonz,

At no point did we militarily strike any Russian civilian trade ships. Nice pivot tho.

Linkerbaan,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

We did strike innocent trucking companies driving into Yemen 🤔

TheFonz,

We did? Where?

Prior to the attacks, they would pay a 0.02% insurance premium to transit the Red Sea – or $20,000. Now that has jumped to upwards of 1% - or a cool $1 million. That is, if insurers are willing to underwrite the ship at all – which several insurers are no longer willing to do with ships affiliated with the United States, United Kingdom or Israel, which the Houthis have vowed to target.

Skill issue, I would simply stop supply the genocidal ethnostate

Land_Strider,

I’m gonna make a guess and say this is more effective than the sanctions imposed on Russia.

NIB,

“Without immediate action, this situation could escalate into a major environmental crisis,” said Julien Jreissati, program director at Greenpeace MENA.

“As well as any further leaks of fuel oil from the engines, the sinking of the vessel could further breach the hull, allowing water to contact with the thousands of tonnes of fertilizer, which could then be released into the Red Sea and disrupt the balance of the marine ecosystems, triggering cascading effects throughout the food web.”

Good job Houthi, you saved Gaza.

GeneralEmergency,

Hey now, there’s a lot of people who’ve only just learned that Houthi exists that’ll be very mad at you.

Linkerbaan,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Yep that’s how this works.

Raise some hell, destroy some things and when governments start losing money they come to the negotiating table.

merthyr1831,

Yemen and Gaza have the right to defend themselves. If you dont want oil tankers in the red sea you’d simply now ignore the Yemeni navy’s warning to ships to not pass the strait if you’re going to do business with the UK, US, or Israel.

NIB,

Do you honestly think they are actually choosing which ships to target? They literally attacked a ship going to Iran

apnews.com/…/yemen-ship-missile-houthi-rebels-att…

Would you be ok if the american navy started shooting iranian civilian ships? Are we saying that civilian targets going through international waters are valid military targets? Should other countries do that too?

What would become of the world then? Do you think that would improve the world? If any country starts hitting civilian targets? Why stop at ships? Why not start nuking cities because you dont like something? As long as you have, what you consider, a “valid” ethical issue you should be allowed to do anything you want.

Diva,
@Diva@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s some cool outrage, but if Israel stopped the genocide this would end.

NIB,

Should the american navy start sinking russian civilian ships to make Russia stop invading Ukraine?

TheFonz,

No one thinks through the things they say here. It’s just what feels good in the moment. At this point any country has free reign to attack any vessel they desire in international waters. Shit, Japan should start launching rockets at Chinese civilian ships because of Hong Kong/Taiwan; US should attack any Russian civilian ships because of Ukraine; any other military operations we should be conducting around the world on behalf of anyone?

qdJzXuisAndVQb2,

You’re delusional. The houthis are shitth. The idf and the houthis can both be shitty at the same time. Two wrongs don’t make a right, it’s not hard to understand.

Diva,
@Diva@lemmy.ml avatar

Ansarallah has said specifically that they will stop if there is a permanent ceasefire. That is the one demand.

splitz,

Good bye local fisheries. Hello starvation, my old friend.

Who did this to us?!?

merthyr1831,

Israel, US, and UK. They were fine with just seizing ships and turning them back but since the genocide-loving asshats bombed them theyre going to hit back.

qdJzXuisAndVQb2,

Bullshit, but go off.

UraniumBlazer,

Agreed. The US, UK and the imperialist fascist west bombed this ship and sunk it /s

Tja,
