What sort of selfish, self centred, person must you be to put your kids above the needs of this community for more photos and your impressions of this keyboard?
That is not our way. Shame.
Seriously beautiful design! Hope you get to your senses and finish it :-) Do you have a lot of experience designing 3d objects?
If the aomebas don’t fit just Handwire it. It’s really enjoyable. Takes some time at first though.
I recently purchased a klor from beekeeb, ready soldered :) excellent soldering job; in any case. I didn’t realise that the mcu would be exposed. So i was wondering if I should be worried. I don’t want to stick black electrical tape over it because it will get sticky. Wondering what i could do. Worried i move the keyboard...
Asked a similar question years ago and some suggested fingernail polish. Not sure how easy it would be to get off in case you must. Never tried it myself.
Plastidip should do the job elegantly if you manage to apply it cleanly enough.
So, I’ve made the mistake of entering a keyboard store in Berlin. Nothing ergonomic there, so all they deal with are great looking boards, heavy, well built, and quiet!...
Because of the material, affixing might create the problem, or at least make it worse. I think affixing the plate with rubber layer might be the solution, but never tried that.
The case I made might be a lost cause - it’s got very little space for dampening the sound with foam, but enough to become an echo chamber. I’ll see what I can do, but not optimistic.
I will keep this in mind for my next design though.
Finally completed my Explorer Pi V2 build. My primary goals for V2 was to adjust economics to fit my hand, improve build quality while reducing total part count, and to create a better thumb cluster. A lot of these changes trade modularity to achieve these goals, which is not a big loss as I get closer to endgame design....
You’d be surprised to feel the difference in a keywell such as yours paired with super sculpted keycaps! Assuming that a keywell makes keycap sculpting unnecessary, but then learnt that the manuform was designed around SA keycaps, I gave that a try, with extra sculpt. Instead of the regular 2,3,4 (3rd row being flat, 2 and 4 being slightly sculpted in opposite direction), I tried 1,3,4, where 1st row is for number row and fn row. It’s super tall and sculpted. It was heavily! It reduced finger movement even more, but as you said - it was in a natural way.
Highly recommended!
My previous Dactyl Manuform was very low profile with choc switches, it was very elegant, more than most Dactyl Manuforms. The last one I built and am using now, is the bog standard 3x5 with SA keycaps - much, much taller but so much better!
What didn’t you like about the U4? Are you using the U4t (for tactile)? It’s the first silent switch I’ve used and I love it, but don’t know any better. I might have to get new switches for building your variation, and if you’ve got a recommendation for a u4t alternative (and the reason it’s better) I’d love to hear it!
Anyway - great photos, and again, beautiful build!
Hi. I’ve been using Dactyl Manuforms for quite a few years now. Settled down with a 5 column with an extremely sculpted SA keycaps and bobba u4t switches. I use only 2/3 thumb keys regularly but enjoy having more....
I really felt like I had to build a smaller one, with only five columns, for showing off (to myself mostly, none else at the office could tell the difference, none cares:-)
I thought of building a variant with only 36 keys or one with a trackball, as long as it isn’t too expensive. Trackpoint perhaps? I don’t know, just bored.
Wow! Love it! It’s not for me, I won’t be trying it sadly, need my basic qwerty core keys, but it’s so cute and elegant.
I did build the Gigi by pseudoku. It was before combos were even a part of QMK. I might try to build a keymap for that emulating basic qwerty I.e. Q + Z = A
It’s surprising to me that having redundancy isn’t common. I’ve got several ways to get to numbers, arrows, I can reach any key using the left hand only (and one day I’ll be arsed to fix things so that the right hand could too). It’s mostly theoretical, as some of the combinations are not well memorised, but those I found useful obviously are.
The concept was to hit both keys together at the centre of the column, emulating a basic qwerty board with less vertical movement. Never got it to work properly when it was difficult. Might try now that it’s trivial
I love the DM. I was wondering about how it compares to similar boards, or to be honest - looking for an excuse to build another, and for the right board, to be different enough to justify a new build
Wow, Thank you! For the 5 column fix especially. That’s very generous of you.
I know next to nothing about 30 printing, I intend to order it from some service. Any settings I should ask for? Which would be altogether better, MJF or SLS?

Tips for designing a quiet case for a board?

36 keys / 10u revxlp with miryoku (lemmy.world)
I built the rexxlp 12u a while ago but honestly 36 keys and miryoku is all I need. So when the 10u came out, thx @petejohanson I had to build it....
