Not surprised. Several years on and I still can’t get Fallen Order working properly.

I’d rather buy it than spend hours and hours downloading and failing to unpack it for unknown reasons.

But I’m not going to spend more than like 10 minutes trying to make it work. If it takes longer than that, it’s just a shit game that doesn’t deserve my money. Too many other perfectly good games to spend my time playing to fuck around with all of that.

If you watch the video in question, they detail which parts of the store are algorithmic and which parts are “curated” by Valve. My guess is that falls into the latter.

No dude. These companies are several decades old and continue to make money hand over fist by exploiting their customers. They do this shit because it makes them a fuckton of money, because their users have no fucking principles or backbone and just lick boots every time they’re stepped on.

I am not an optimistic person but literally the only explanation I have for this sort of thing is altruism. That Valve is a company that simply loves its’ community and doesn’t want to exploit their customers. Nothing else makes sense.

I pretty much just assume “Free To Play” games are full of microtransactions, is that wrong?

E: to be clear, I don’t think microtransactions are an inherently bad thing. In fact, if people want to make games where other people with more money front the costs of development, I’m all about it.

What I hate is being reminded every 5 minutes that it has garbage skins that I can pay IRL money for.

What headsets were they using and what software were they running? Because this is going to have a tremendous impact on the so-called “rift-sick” factor.

Epic only has a lower cut because they’re leveraging their undoubtedly massive Chinese investments to gain market share. You can rest assured they would charge 30% if they could.

I don’t like that Steam or Apple or Google charge 30%. I think it’s absurd. But also Valve is basically a saint compared to every modern corporation so I don’t think twice about it.

Yeah that’s not how that works. Acceptable or not, if you want to sell your games, they have to be on Steam because that’s where people are buying them.

Twitter is fucking stupid and has a limit on the number of characters you can use in any “tweet”.

My suspicion is that this is done intentionally so that users cannot properly explain themselves, which inevitably creates arguments, drama, and “engagement”. Mastodon also has this incredibly stupid limitation.

The result is that you end up with people just posting long rants as a series of Tweets (thread), rather than just one, thus bypassing the incredibly stupid limitation, while simultaneously making it super difficult to just read.

This website just gathers all of the tweets from this thread into one post that’s easier to read.

Listen, I’m not at all saying she’s lying, but I do not know her and people do shit for inexplicable reasons all the time.

She is getting a lot of attention, something I’m sure many people would not enjoy, but some of that is definitely being driven to her YT channel, so the whole “nothing to gain” position isn’t really true.
