Renacles,

My only real problem with difficulty is that they invalidated some builds entirely.

All the early bosses are very resistant to magic and frost, making int builds kinda useless.

Same thing happens with colossal weapons since windows of opportunity are so small, they either stagger the boss or get cooked right after.

Renacles,

I switched from dark moon greatsword to a bleed build and my dps tripled against the divine beast.

The early bosses have huge magical resistance, each regular attack from my sword dealt 700 damage vs 800 + bleed from Eleonora’s Polearm despite being much faster.

I’m glad there are more larval tears I missed though, I was worried I’d run out before trying some more builds.

Renacles,

Elden Ring already has things like spirit summons to make the game trivial, there is no need for an easier mode.

Renacles,

I think it would take away from the game if you could just change the difficulty from the settings.

Part of what makes souls games special is that they put a wall in front of you and it’s up to you to figure out how to get past it. You can make it easier on you by asking for help through summons, spirits, improving your build or you can learn how to fight them with what you already have.

Renacles,

When you make a game that looks like Fallout, sounds like Fallout, plays like Fallout and you reveal as “From the Creators of Fallout New Vegas” people are going to expect Fallout New Vegas.

Renacles,

First person Sci-Fi RPG with heavy criticism of capitalism and a retro futuristic look.

Renacles,

Cyberpunk is part of the cyberpunk subgenre and has a premade main character.

Fallout is a post apocalyptic game set in a retro futuristic universe.

Outer Worlds is not post apocalyptic but being in barren planets in the frontier gives it a much more similar vibe. It’s basically a spiritual successor to Fallout that falls short in a lot of aspects.

I don’t think Outer Worlds is bad but if they couldn’t live up to New Vegas they shouldn’t have set the expectations they did.

Renacles,

Rewriting the entire code for 2 25 year old games without changing the end result is a lot of work.

They’d also need to redo the voice acting for legal reasons like mods do and change some of the dialogue that wouldn’t fly these days.

Renacles,

Keeping the low INT female chosen one dialogue with Myron or half of San Francisco would probably start a shitstorm nowadays.

Renacles,

I’m playing Blacktail, it came out last year and went under the radar but it’s really good. It’s based on classic fairy tales before they were disneyfied.

Renacles,

The first game had a stamina meter as well, it went away when you maxed your parkour skills.

Renacles,

Emil is not their only writer, just the lead.

Renacles,

They are hard to find because they aren’t credited exclusively as writers but I know Ferret Baudoin worked as a writer and senior developer for most Bethesda games, including Starfield.

Renacles,

It’s wild to me how Destiny can deliver so little and still get reception like this.

Renacles,

Every expansion is basically the same package, a 4 to 6 hour story with bad to ok writing and a ton of padding + a new location with some repetitive activities and a raid.

That’s not 50$ worth of content, you could almost get a new game for that amount. Hell, Shadow of the Erdtree is 10$ less.

Renacles,

And they keep charging more as well, dungeons are not even part of the seasons anymore.

Renacles,

You can enlist (for a small freedom fee) at the local recruitment office and become a Helldiver yourself.

You can help spread freedom and democracy across the galaxy by helping Super Earth gather totally not oil and destroying opposing, and obviously undemocratic, ideologies.

Renacles,

True, fuck Sony

Renacles,

I think a lot of us are just getting Doom through gamepass.

Renacles,

I think in-universe you are trying to keep the environment in balance but it’s so hard to make a good story for a game exclusively about killing and wearing monsters that it never works out.

Iceborne ends with the main characters thanking Nergigante only for that particular Nergigante to be the target of a future hunt regardless.

Let’s Skip The Dragon Age: The Veilguard Vs. Baldur’s Gate 3 Comparisons, Yeah? (kotaku.com)

*Dragon Age: The Veilguard *is going to be divisive. It already is. When you’ve spent ten years waiting for something with an idea of what it would be in your head, if it’s not that thing, you’re bound to be disappointed. But ultimately, *The Veilguard *is not trying to accomplish the same things *Baldur’s Gate 3 *did....

Renacles,

Baldurs Gate 3 did not copy the Dragon Age formula, Dragon Age did not create it in the first place.

Renacles,

Oh I understand now, thanks for clarifying.

Renacles,

I think the main issue is NPC quests, they are complete nonsense and fail automatically based on arbitrary triggers.

Renacles,

The questlines are so intuitive that some were missing an ending for a few months due to bugs and nobody noticed.

Renacles,

I don’t mind the move to action combat but this looks a bit dated, the enemies barely do anything.

Renacles,

It was more real time strategy than anything.

Renacles,

It’s a good thing Doom 2016 exists then.

Renacles,

Star Wars will have 3 settings and 3 villains and you are going to like it.

Renacles,

The new Doom looks fucking sick.

Renacles,

Eternal pretty much integrates the Sci-fi story of the first game with the medieval fantasy lore it had in the codexes.

It’s a bit jarring in the first few levels because you don’t have a lot of the new tools so the game is still pulling it’s punches in case you need to get used to 2016’s mechanics I think.

I think it really clicks around the time you get the super shotgun and the mobility you get comes into play.

The tone is goofier than 2016 but in a metalhead’s drug trip kinda way that works really well in my opinion.

You should give it another shot and stick with it until you have the full arsenal, it has a ridiculous amount of depth.

Renacles,

There was nothing complex about sex workers in Fallout 1 and 2, they were either in the background or used for sex jokes.

Killing hookers in New Reno also gave you positive karma for some reason.

Renacles,

Eternal plays completely different to any other shooter, it’s very unique.

Renacles,

Looks great, I’m glad they are still changing things around so none of the games end up feeling the same.

The mech actually being usable this time around is awesome as well.

Renacles,

Inquisition came out at a time where we had no good games for an entire year, it’s pretty bad.

Renacles,

I wouldn’t care so much if they weren’t pushing so hard. The fact they are willing to go through all of this to force it makes me suspicious.

Renacles,

You can play missions with other players as long as you join their instance when going through interiors, it’s not perfect.

Renacles,

If we get Fallout 5 before Elder Scrolls 6 I’ll lose my shit.

Renacles,

RDR2 is the most boring good game I’ve ever played. It’s like they were trying to make it as miserable as possible.

Announcing Wayfinder Echoes - Forging Our Own Path (online-only game soon to be playable offline) (steamcommunity.com)

Huge W. Maybe the Stop Killing Games campaign, combined with some very real market realities, will save more games like this from companies with the liberty to do so. Unfortunately, it sounds like multiplayer will likely still depend on Steam servers rather than supporting LAN (I’d be happy to be proven wrong), but this is way...

Renacles,

Are we going to pretend Age of Empires 4 doesn’t exist? The last expansion outsold every single one from AoE2.

Renacles,

I mean, RTS is never going to be that kind of mainstream again, it’s too complicated and can’t be monetized in the way that something like a shooter can.

Renacles,

The game had a really rough launch, I’m not surprised you got that impression if you played it back then.

I’d give it another shot, everything from gameplay to graphics has been overhauled since.

Renacles,

Yeah, you end up with a game where everything dies in one hit, including yourself.
