Shihali,

This looks like a major update to a well-established improvement hack. A retranslation with ability name changes, more detailed maps, and that Bishop softlock bug should be long stomped.

Shihali,

You’ve just described the entire language of Toki Pona. The same string of words can mean “bear” or “elephant”, and I copied a phrase someone used to mean “tiger trap” and it was read as “bamboo arch”.

Dear @linux and @academicchatter folks:

Please suggest libre/open source tools that allow for the extraction of text and images from scientific pdf documents?

P.S: I'm on a linux machine. Would like something terminal friendly, if possible!

Shihali,

gImageReader is a graphical front-end to Tesseract, so that might be just what you’re looking for. The default settings don’t add the OCR’d text to the PDF but you can do that.

Shihali,

Undertale is the obvious suggestion, although it’s more deconstructive than Earthbound.

Did LO discontinue distribution via torrent?

Edit: torrents are now up. Does it always take a day?

Is gentoo Linux really worth it?

I’ve installed gentoo but there seems like there’s so many sacrifices. I love that it’s all open source, but I really don’t mind closed source software now and then, because after all I would be using it to play closed source games. The biggest compromise I’ve observed is the very long build times. I have a lukewarm...

Shihali,

Gentoo seems great if you want to experiment with patches to major programs or system libraries. That’s what I used it for.

Shihali,

Chrono Trigger is around 25 hours for a casual playthrough. Great game with a very fast pace for its genre but it seems way too long for OP.

he finished Paper Mario 64 (lemmy.world)

I helped for the battles and reading the dialogues but he did all the exploring by himself. He’s so thrilled, but also sad it’s over. Now I’m hesitant between Pokemon FireRed (he loves Pokemon but that a lot more text to read) or PaperMario TTYD (but we don’t have a switch for the remaster version). Any other ideas for...

Shihali,

Dragon Quest is the OG for a reason. The remakes are a lot less grindy and don’t use ye olde Englysshe so they would be easier to read but less educational.

Shihali,

DQ5 wasn’t the first generation game or the first monster-catching game, but it was one of the earlier games to offer either and AFAIK the first game to offer both.

Good journals/planners for fountain pens?

So, I like to write simple notes, journaling, to-do lists, or essays/fiction with a fountain pen whenever possible, and I’m trying to find a good journal or planner to use. My Pilot and Diamine inks feather a lot on the paper I’m currently using, and that’s really the main problem I want to address....

Shihali,

Hobonichi Techo is always good, but more oriented towards keeping a diary and a little expensive (though you get what you pay for).
