I’ve had to cave and use some services (for work reasons) that I’d swore I would never use. No matter how much we value privacy and look for alternative software/services when possible - we still have to eat and pay bills.

If you are in the same boat and you must use services like that, then my advice would be to keep it strictly business. Keep your personal details and personal social connections to a minimum unless where it would be otherwise beneficial for work purposes.

Good. Fuck that fascist and his companies. The only sad part of this story is that they used paint and not something that would etch or scratch the stainless.

Just cancelled my Adobe sub. Even if I was comfortable with how they use my data (and I am most assuredly fucking not) I’m also uncomfortable with them helping themselves to the NDA’d projects I do for clients. I trialed Affinity Photo and it meets 98% of my needs and is on sale 50% off right now. Bite my ass, Adobe.

TheFeatureCreature,
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

For the kind of work I have been doing I have not needed to hand over any psd files. Photoshop is(was) only a small step in my workflow and the main thing I get hired for is 3D modelling services. Regardless, I still work with NDA’d content and Adobe’s terms are invasive as hell.

With all the studio buyouts, closures, layoffs, etc to pile on top of all the usual greedy macrotransaction crap - it’s really hard to give a shit about games right now. Seriously, the only upcoming game I’m even remotely interested in is Tiny Glade.

Welp, there goes my morning. Now I have to spend a few hours unfucking everything.

Never trusting this app ever again.

Steam needs to pull this from the store and start issuing refunds.

Alberta plans to consult on proposed gender policies, but advocates say they weren't invited (www.cbc.ca)

Pride groups and some health-care providers are harshly criticizing the Alberta government’s latest attempt to get feedback on its proposed gender identity policies — a private invite that requires participants to sign a non-disclosure agreement....

Whenever a conservative group attacks LGBTQ+ people - it’s always a distraction and/or low-risk, low-effort way of gaining support. They can attack less than 1% of the population and rile up support from their hardcore base at the same time. It also takes scrutinsing eyes off any other ongoing scandals or misdeeds the government is doing.

For basic behaviour and pathfinding, yes. But aesthetics, outfits, dialogue, backgrounds, etc etc was all made by humans. The reason why NPC’s can feel so immersive and part of the worlds they exist in is because they’re made and written by the same people that made the rest of the game.

NPC’s with awkward AI-gen voicelines spouting hallucinated nonsense that has nothing to do with the game or the player’s actions is going to be an absolute dumpster fire.

TheFeatureCreature,
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

Potentially yes as at least the Bethesda NPC will say lore-accurate lines.

Or line.

Black man who borrowed father's BMW questioned, forcibly arrested outside home (www.cbc.ca)

tl;dr - Black man driving his dad’s BMW is detained for being suspicious because he doesn’t look like the sort of person who drives that car. He is subject to a rough arrest as his mother watches. Gatineau police insist there was no racial profiling.

TheFeatureCreature,
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

Ah yes, a 14 year old generic BMW. How suspicious. Could these pigs have come up with any more of an obvious lie? This was just flat out racially-motivated assault.

I’m sure Smith will find some way to blame trans people and/or Trudeau for the fires.

A Justin Trudeau Ally Nearly Quit the Party Over its Israel Policy (www.politico.com)

Anthony Housefather, an outspoken Jewish MP from Montreal, toyed with leaving his party to join the Conservatives after most of Trudeau’s Liberals voted in favor of a non-binding motion in the House of Commons that took direct aim at Israel. It’s the latest example of how the conflict is straining center-left politics across...

Why is “healthcare” never an option?

That private healthcare lobbyist money is just too good.

The Best Secure Email Providers in 2024 (blog.thenewoil.org)

Like it or not, email is a critical part of our digital lives. It’s how we sign up for accounts, get notifications, and communicate with a wide range of entities online. Critics of email rightfully point out that email suffers from a significant number of flaws that make it less than ideal, but that doesn’t change the...

A lot of lists for private alternative email services start and and with Proton, seemingly. Services like Posteo, Mailbox, Hushmail, Fastmail, etc are frequently overlooked. It’s a shame because many of these other services are great and Proton is one of the most expensive and not suitable for everyone. I’ve been with Posteo for years and I have nothing but praise for it.

I haven’t shopped there in years and have no plan to. I used to work for them and detest spending any more time in their stores.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Despite there being plenty of options in my area, the parking lots of Loblaw’s stores are still overflowing with cars. I was driving around the city yesterday taking care of some errands and I drove past several stores and they were absolutely packed. One even had a lineup of cars to enter the parking lot that was overflowing out onto the road.

TheFeatureCreature,
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

Way ahead of you. I haven’t shopped at a Loblaw’s location in years.

TheFeatureCreature,
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

I live in an area with numerous grocery stores around and it always amazes me how often the Loblaw’s parking lot is PACKED despite their absurd prices and the security measures treating customers like escaped convicts.

A lot of people think the justice system should be about revenge and not rehabilitation.

Anecdotally, I have spoken with so many people that believe criminals should permanently lose their human rights and never be accepted back into society again regardless of crime committed. It is actually legitimately disturbing how many people froth at the mouth at the idea of a government-run institution that enacts petty revenge on its own citizens. I have had numerous people give me a look of absolute disgust when I tell them that justice systems should rehabilitate people so they can enter society again safely and with helpful resources.

Reminder that as many of us Canadians are living paycheque to paycheque and can barely afford to put massively overinflated food on our tables - our lawmakers are dedicating their time to attack a minority that makes up only 0.3% of the Canadian population.

This same distraction tactic is used heavily in the US and is sadly quite effective at drumming up conservative support.

Reason why you should always look into joining a credit union instead.

TheFeatureCreature,
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

That sounds more like an Envision problem instead of a credit union problem.

Don’t let your experience with a single credit union define your thoughts about all of them. There are literally hundreds of them.

and the province has shifted away from coal at a far faster rate than expected.

Because solar and wind are dirt cheap compared to traditional energy generation methods. Using renewable energy is, put bluntly, just good business sense. If you have plentiful sun and/or wind and you’re not making use of solar or wind generation then you are pissing away good money opportunities.

But if there is one thing the conservatives love more than resisting change, it’s sitting around doing nothing while they beg the federal government for more money so they can subsidize their failure of a fossil fuel sector. That entire province just evokes the mental image of repeatedly slamming your foot on a rake and complaining how much it hurts each time.

I’m in the same boat. My doctor is on the other side of the city but I don’t dare lose him because I need him to constantly refill an important prescription that really should just be infinite because I have to take it for the rest of my life. Thankfully I can do a lot of it by phone now which takes a lot of hassle off both of us.

TheFeatureCreature,
@TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world avatar

And people wonder why I don’t even bother answering my phone anymore.
