I remember having my mind blown in college when I saw a Mac Pro tower running Ubuntu in a lab.

Yeah I think they needed horsepower to run some sophisticated models in Matlab, and Apple had a killer educational discount.

Oh man! I didn’t know this game was on PC! Has been on my must-play list for years, but it was a PlayStation exclusive.

Bravely Default 3DS (lemmy.world)

I finally blew the dust off of my copy of Bravely Default for the 3ds… I’m only a few hours in but this might be the most beautiful jrpg I’ve played on this console. The story so far seems somewhat stereotypical, but the art is gorgeous and the gameplay has been amazing so far! Just wanted to share!

She was actually made up to be pretty ugly for most of the first season, but they hotted her up at the end as the result of some magic shit.

I watched it once four years ago, so don’t remember the details.

Never beat it as a kid, finally 100%ed it when 3D all stars came out.

Honestly? If feels very rushed. Elements like Yoshi are hardly used, the final boss stage is short and finicky, the pachinko machine is 100% broken, and the blue coin collection is needlessly difficult and unrewarding.

I think when I first played it I was blown away by how good it looked, but playing as an adult, I’m more just disappointed in how messy and unrefined it can be at times.

[Question] What to spend money on for server upgrade? (lemmy.world)

I’ve been running a headless Ubuntu server for about 10 years or so. At first, it was just a file/print server, so I bought a super low power motherboard/processor to cut down on the energy bill. It’s a passively cooled Intel Celeron J3455 “maxed out” with 16BG of RAM....

From my understanding, it was created by a very passionate team who had to make what turned out to be a very ambitious game from scratch (no game engine to pull from) with very limited hardware.

They even had to invent their own audio compression algorithm to fit the game's soundtracks on the disc.
