I’m running OpenSUSE leap 15.5, When I was on the linux mint, I was using warpinator but using it on openSUSE is troublesome and I wish there was a linux version of blip but unfortunately there is not.
I was thinking about using graphene OS, but I’ve read some lemmy users dislike this OS due to perceived misleading advertising and the pixel 7a you’re supposed to install graphene on because it’s from google (an advertising company)....
I’m planning to put Debian-based operating system onto my Surface Laptop Gen 1, following the guide (linux-surface). Any good Debian-based Linux recommendations? For now I’m considering AntiX (lightweight debian) and normal Debian....
MacOS (old one like around 2012 or so) -> Windows 8 -> Windows 10 -> Several Linux on VM(Kali, Ubuntu(s), Fedora…) -> WSL1(Kali, Ubuntu) -> MacOS (with a newer OS) -> NixOS -> Void Linux ->
Now I’m currently using Void Linux, Windows 11, MacOS Sonoma.
I’m planning to put Fedora Debian (because it’s well supported by linux-surface community) on my Surface Laptop 1st gen which I’m not using right now.
For example, when you want to install desktop environments, you need to use CLI. There’s no GUI option. I guess that’s why Linux is considered “difficult” for Windows/MacOS users, while they can use Chromebook, which is also Linux.
The point of original post is how zdnet is trying to let people use Linux, right?
I’ve been playing Fallout New Vegas (I got it when it’s made free on EGS) since around three days ago. I’d strongly recommend using Viva New Vegas (weird it’s not mentioned in the video) because it greatly improves the game’s overall stability.
Plus, you may notice audio cluttering while playing, especially when you’re on bluetooth headphones. Playing a video (anything will do, including YouTube, Big Buck Bunny on VLC, etc) before launching the game fixes the problem.
I need help finding an alternative for a tool like Adobe scan to scan documents and make PDFs out of them. I’ve tried out OpenScan, while it is decent, the scanner doesn’t recognize the page boundaries that well, and adding new pages requires quite a few clicks, which makes scanning long documents cumbersome. I’ve installed gentoo but there seems like there’s so many sacrifices. I love that it’s all open source, but I really don’t mind closed source software now and then, because after all I would be using it to play closed source games. The biggest compromise I’ve observed is the very long build times. I have a lukewarm...
As a NixOS user, I will definitely not recommend beginners to use this distro. It’s just a poorly documented, not user-friendly Linux.
I use it because I really hate .config and dotfiles, like why do I need to edit several files for just one thing?
Standalone nix installation and Home-manager would be fine though, I still not recommend them because at least I cannot tell if the binary I’m executing right now is installed from Nix or apt or whatever until I execute which
Linux needs to grow. Stop telling people it’s ‘tech-y’ or acting like you’re more advanced for using it, you are scaring away people. Linux Mint can be used by a senile person perfectly....
Around 2000 or so, I used to work in tech support for a software company who had like 5000 Windows-based customers and 5 running Solaris. My boss chose me to learn Solaris when the previous “expert” left. I bought this book and started hacking. Good times!
