sp6,

I thought this might be a similar situation to Ghost of Tsushima where a PSN account is only required for online play, but Ragnarok has no multiplayer.

I don’t understand why Sony is so insistent on this. PSN is still unsupported in 170+ territories; this requirement is just going to turn most of those “would-be” buyers in those territories into pirates.

For anyone wondering why the first-past-the-post voting system (used by most countries) is bad, what the alternatives are, and why those alternatives are better, Nicky Case has an excellent write-up that covers all of that: ncase.me/ballot/

sp6,

This game has been free on Epic, free on GOG through Prime gaming, and free through gamepass. Does anyone know if they’re counting those free claims as “sales”?

sp6,

Considering Counter-Strike 2 completely dropped Mac support, I highly doubt it

sp6,

Both Bitwarden and KeePass are very secure, certainly much better than something like Lastpass…

Bitwarden’s server and client are open source and completely E2EE (similar to Signal, the server is zero-knowledge). And even if you don’t trust Bitwarden’s official server, you can host your own.

KeePass is fine too, but it doesn’t have a centralized server like Bitwarden. You have to use other tools to sync your vault between devices. Which some people prefer, but others dislike. Just depends on your preference.

Helldivers 2’s anti-cheat (nProtect GameGuard) is kernel-level on Windows, but has a userspace fallback for linux

Edit: see this post

sp6,

I think the Deep Rock developers are owned by Embracer now, so I’m not sure if that counts as “indie” anymore, even if they’re still a small (and previously somewhat home-grown) studio. But it’s still a damn good game - ROCK AND STONE

I released my first game on Steam and got rid of impostor syndrome!

My first game Mushy Score is out on Steam! I have been creating games since I was a child but never felt like a real game dev. Now I finally have a game that I can show to other people.

Mushy Score is a 2D Roguelike where you fight against endless waves of enemies. Collect points and try to get a high score! I am super exited for the release !

If you like similar games go check it out: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2480740/Mushy_Score/

sp6,

Awesome work. Out of curiosity, what engine did you use and how was your experience with it?

sp6,

If you want a good laugh, check out The Looker. It’s a short satire of the Witness, free on Steam

sp6,

There are some story-rich RPG shooters that are almost pre-2010 I could recommend, like maybe Dishonored or Fallout 3/New Vegas. But pre-2010 is tough, only ones I can think of are the System Shock or maybe Thief games.

sp6, (edited )

There’s no way I’m finishing them all in 1yr, but these are currently on the list (PC/Steam Deck):

  • Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
  • Subnautica
  • American Truck Simulator
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Stardew Valley
  • The Witcher 3
  • Slay the Spire
  • Terraria
sp6,

I got NV modded up through the Viva New Vegas guide, so hopefully that fixes the crashes for me. Figuring out how to mod it on linux was surprisingly easy too, thanks to the MO2 linux installer on github.

sp6,

On the Playstation side, RPCS3 is the PS3 emulator, it’s great. There are some experimental PS4 emulators, but they aren’t ready yet.

On the Xbox side, Xenia works well as an Xbox 360 emulator; it’s not linux native though, but it might work well under wine. I’m not aware of Xbox One (or later) emulators.

On the Nintendo side, I would be surprised if a Nintendo game that couldn’t be emulated exists. Even Switch games run very well on day 1 of release.

sp6,

For Deck, you’ll likely be using EmuDeck for your emulation setup, which will install PCSX2 for PS2 games.

You can see the other available EmuDeck emulators here: emudeck.github.io/…/steamos/-does-emudeck-in…

I think from the perspective of the employee’s reputation, it’s an important distinction, due to the “with cause” vs. “without cause” implication.

When I hear “laid off” I think the person was probably a fine employee who they just couldn’t keep around because higher-ups wanted more money. But when I hear “fired” I think “well did they take a shit on their boss’s desk or something?”
