It should have been called Reimagination to set expectations for existing fans. FF7 original is probably my favorite game of all time (tie with FF6) and I still did not play Remake (lost interest waiting too long and then asking price on Steam is 80 Euros, fuck you SquareEnix!).

But you know, I am not entirely opposed to changes in story and character handling, if its done well. They even changed up the battle system. To me this is an opportunity to re-live the game, to experience it with new perspective and see details I could not before. If it was exactly the same game with better graphics, that's just playing the same game again. But the Remake... ahem, I meant Reimagination, is different. And you know what, I kinda like this idea. But off course, I still did not play and don't know how bad it is. And oh god, I hope they don't change the important story line in part 2... this would be a huge fuck.

I don't know what you mean. It even has a screen. Not an OLED, but at that price point we can't nitpick, right? The only thing I really like on this device are the builtin Hall effect thumbsticks.

I think Bloodborne will be one of the first, if not the first, games ever to be emulated on a PS4 emulator. There are multiple projects, but they are not ready yet (plus it would require a monster pc).

So does Rockstar, Valve and Microsoft investigate for any unlicensed commercial usage of the Intellectual Property they own and copyright violations by others. Some are less aggressive, that's for true. If it's not, then Pokemon Company or Nintendo simply don't care.

Edit: Did the reply I was replying to disappeared? I am sure I was replying to someone who said Nintendo would go to investigate the game for any IP infringement.

Last year after I showed off my brother the Steam Deck, he decided to sell most of his CS:GO skins and purchase with the money the Steam Deck (but 64gb model). It was one of his best decisions, because he was thinking of getting a cheap laptop to play simple games and do simple web browsing.

Now he is a Linux user. :> Gott'em!

Loot boxes should not be in computer games.

As much as I like Valve, Valve is one of the major player bringing and normalizing Lootboxes into games. Even before the Lootboxes was a thing on smartphones, let alone before they arrived on other AAA games as well. I think this is the worst contribution of Valve to videogames. And this statement comes from someone who usually defends this company.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

I'm glad to not have invested into the Capcom games. The article talks about Steam Deck only, but I assume its broken on Linux as well ("Linux" as a word isn't found on the article).

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Doesn't come out of nowhere to my knowledge. It is quite anticipated game by many, as it was shown with trailers before on big shows. Everyone was wondering what kind of game this will be and everyone just knew it as "Pokemon with guns" where you can catch and slave other Pokemon like creatures. I'm actually surprised that so many didn't heard of the game before.

In the past, Ayaneo has been somewhat reticent to discuss its plans concerning SteamOS and as this new venture is not a direct collaboration with Valve, I should imagine that they want to test the waters first.

If this is not a collaboration with Valve, then I assume it's not SteamOS. Maybe HoloISO that is created by "fans" with the aim of installing an operating system that is extracted and rebuild from the final installation on the Deck (if I understand the project right). The goal is to have HoloISO be able to install on systems other than the Deck itself, to get a similar experience. Maybe the Ayaneo will make use of HoloISO instead?

The project still needs funding and time to be build, so nothing is set in stone. Valve also works "hard" to bring SteamOS to other systems, so maybe there is a plan to do this. Now the Deck OLED is out, Valve probably have more time to do this (SteamOS 4.0?). Either way, I am very happy and curious what will happen next.

Xbox Network will implement mass content deletion taking effect from January 9th (www.gamingarcade.co.uk)

Starting January 9, a new policy on the Xbox Network will automatically remove captures (screenshots and video clips) stored for over 90 days, affecting all users with 'historic' content. This move is believed to alleviate strain on Microsoft's servers.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

I expected a more sensible default, such as 365 days. It would also be helpful to have a 'favorite' option to prevent deletion. This is a major letdown.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Exactly why I don't want to use GOG. There are third party clients, but I refuse to build an entire catalog if the company does not provide something official.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

People will never be satisfied with awards. Let the community choose? You get popularity contest. Let the review outlets choose? Then you get only a certain kind of games to win the contest. Steam is very community focused in most of their recommendations and in this case, awards. This has ups and downs and sometimes its stupid. In case of RDR2 who knows what the reason was why they chose this game. It might be an attempt to troll in mass. Or a misunderstanding.

I take awards as one kind of view and never in isolation. Context matters. So I ignore those where I think it is stupid awards, like Starfield and RDR2, and look at the other candidates. And the other categories as well. And then move on with my life. Just like with the other award shows. Who cares what game won what award? It rarely impacts my choice.

Just like Cyberpunk 2077, I will wait for this game to be worked on and get it for a discount later. I learned my lesson long time ago, not to buy big AAA games at launch.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

I wasn't saying both games are similar, but more comparing the situation both games not worth buying day 1. Developers adding new functionality, features and iron out bugs and performance issues. If I like the core gameplay and story, that's another story. But just like with Cyberpunk, I will wait for the game being worked on and buy it later for a cheaper price.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

When I purchased (you can check it yourself by putting it in the cart), there was a notice that this promotion is not applicable to gifts. So it might be an intended special promotion for owners of the previous original version of the game. And Steam glitches out there maybe. If this price is available to you too, then I assume it's intended.

thingsiplay,

While this is not a nice, I don't understand why this is a big deal? And why anyone would pirate the game as a result of this 2 Dollars increase (which in percentage as ~33% increase sounds worse than it is). Others are doing this too, adjust the price after long period of supporting it. And for such a low price and as an indie developer, I think it's only fair. Also for anyone thinking of pirating the game out of principle, rethink it again. Game gets deals over time and at some point it was available for ~4 Euros (which should be more like 3.79 Dollars or whatever it might be).

The game in question is https://store.steampowered.com/app/1846170/Iron_Lung/ BTW. It has Very Positive reviews on Steam and is a horror themed short game. And the dev doesn't even come up with fake excuses or anything like that, it's straight honest about making more money. Which is fair to me! And before anyone accuses me, I am not affiliated with the dev or game, never purchased or received anything; it's the first time I hear about the game. Just mentioning it, because of my positive words defending the price increase. This is a rare situation where I am fine with it.

@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

It's a little bit confusing title, because it's not Steam that has made the games for Free. This is not a comparable situation to what Epic Games does. Steam has nothing to do with the offering, other than hosting the game on the platform. All games are made Free by their own publishers.

Also it includes games that are always Free in price, such as Age of Advent. It serves as a sort of demonstration of the full game. And it never had a price attached to it, if I see it correctly. This article is either AI generated or the author don't know what he is writing (sorry if you read this, but its my opinion). Please fact check stuff before posting.

Twitch should have a second version targeted for adults and everything else. It could live together with Twitch for Gaming and save for kids. Let's call them Twitch Gaming and Twitch Live. And all problems are solved, world hunger has been defeated.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Right? Not only can you download from any place on the web and install directly, there are also established third party shops like from Samsung and Amazon or even better, F-droid for Open Source stuff.

Maybe its classified as controlling the market, because most people don't know about alternatives and therefore Google is a monopoly. Even if there are alternatives, Google is currently in a position to control almost all Android smartphones. Similar to why Windows was classified as a monopoly, even though we had Linux for ages as an alternative operating system. So this paragraph is just a guess by me.

Link is borked, as the click will link to this post for some reason. The video itself is a short video talking with a generated voice, while the "ah shit here we go again" sequence is played on top of the image with the date that Rockstar has posted. Nothing worth watching, so I will not link to it.

This will be the first (big) update of the game, since I purchased and played it. To me its Cyberpunk 2077 v1.1.

I feel betrayed, as I purchased and played through the game with 2.0 update.

I recently finished the game for the first time and was thinking about to get Phantom Liberty extension too. Now I have to wait a bit longer. BTW in the article this part:

To ensure everyone knows it's not kidding, it even threw in a little fire emoji.

The fire emoji. It makes everything believable. xD

I hope Final Fantasy 7 Remake gets a good discount. The regular price of 80 Euros is too much for a digital only game to me. I can see it got a few times a discount to 46 Euros. Hope it will get to 30 or at least 35 this time.

It's just a celebration of videogames, an event for fun, an average of opinions. There is nothing to fight against or try to prevent. Simply put, if you don't like, don't watch it. To me it's a relaxed day and I like watching that event. Don't ruin it for others, because you hate it.

There are many Award shows and events for Games. What about them? Do you hate them all?

Another true IGN moment. 8/10? Man this thing looks ugly. And it can only stream your local Playstation 5 on the local network, otherwise it's useless. Battery life is a joke for a streaming only device. Does not have Bluetooth. And the price is expensive for what it does. Yet IGN praises this. Imagine Microsoft did the same thing for XBox. I really don't want to come off as a Console War guy (I'm a PC Gamer), but imagine that for a moment. And no, I do not hate Sony, I just hate this device.

thingsiplay, (edited )
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

But I think it does not support streaming over the internet. Its only limited to the same network you are with your PS5. Or am I wrong? Edit: Apparently I can't read. At least it is possible to stream your PS5 to other wifi networks.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Thanks for confirmation. One can't even stream the online streaming games with the PS Plus subscription. Its really only about the local games you have... I'm totally baffled.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Hmm, okay. So I got most of the stuff correct then (no internet streaming), but didn't got the part it would stream on other wifi networks. I skipped parts of the review, because I didn't expect that functionality would have changed. Shame on me and this should be a lesson! So then that went from useless (in my opinion) to useful at times.

But the PS5 has to run for that, right? Can you remote control to run and sleep the PS5?

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

I just made a premature comment and deleted after starting to read the blog post. I did not expect that.

thingsiplay,

I felt getting ripped off by just reading the article. My recent PC build has 32 GB, is cheaper and the upgrade to 64 GB (meaning additional pair of 16 GB) only costs me around 100 Euros. It's nice that their devices are probably more effective and need less RAM, which the iPhones proved to be correct. But that does not mean the cost of the additional RAM units are more expensive. Apple chose to make them expensive.

I never played that game, but already gave up after reading a lot about it. Another game many people learned to give up is probably Battletoads.

thingsiplay,

Exactly. Battletoads isn't unfair, its just extremely hard (not different from Dark Souls). It's different kind of hard, compared to Turtles, which had bad controls in example.

Here is a very good technical video about this topic: The Bad Jump Design and 30 FPS Gravity of TMNT (NES) - Behind the Code

Glad you like it. He always does this in-dept technical explanation, which sometimes is too technical for me. I noticed it wasn't even the video I wanted to link and updated the reply with the additional link about the water level specifically.

Secret of Mana was originally developed and planned to be released for the SNES CD ROM extension (named Playstation!). It had way more content, graphics and music in CD quality. But, as we know, Nintendo suddenly stopped the plans for CD ROM and Sony created the Playstation therefore. And this angered Squaresoft too, as they had to rework the game and create a cut down version for the cartridge, and it was still more expensive compared to CD too. And later when Nintendo went with carts on N64 again, they had enough and developed Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation.

Yasunori Mitsuda, the main composer of Chrono Trigger, worked so hard and poured his heart into the game that he got sick and could not work anymore. And because of a hard drive crash he lost ton of in work tracks. That's why Nobuo Uematsu helped him to finish the scores.
