I couldn’t believe a Republican president could get elected ever again.

I am so disappointed with the US voting public. They will never again live it down.

I’ve since noticed they continue to shit-talk whoever is in the 15-30 year range, asserting this group is lazier and more slackery than their elders.

And so I point it out, noting we don’t buy it this time either.

My dad navigated satellites and exploration probes for NASA his entire career, even doing work in getting better climate data. He’s a total MAGA and FOX loyalist now. Misses Bill O’Reilly and Tucker Carlson.

The non-woke Trekkies (or do they call themselves Trekkers? ) didn’t think about interracial kisses or the post-scarcity society in which capitalists were small-time traders. They see Captain Kirk running roughshod over other societies and turning them into America (see The Apple and A Taste of Armageddon ) which was more about 60s Hollywood imagining cold war United States as the height of civilization.

The Next Generation dared to imagine a more internationalist sense of culture and got into the notion that even extremely weird aliens might be deserving of civil rights. But by DS9 the Federation was reimagined as a failing coalition with multiple rising renegade factions and worlds teeming with disregarded peoples. The story became less about rising to ideals and more about dealing with grimdark realities and compromising principles to preserve status quo.

Then the Kelvin Timeline Reboot got J. J. Abrams’d and Paramount got litigeous about fan films it previously endorsed and I became so disgusted with the state of Trek, I divested myself from it. Star Wars would suffer a similar fate, and I don’t watch many movies these days.

I just like that someone is getting laid every night and that is part of their best life. In fact, I assumed the hot messy creampie woman is managing her fertility as she sees fit.

Also jizz is totally a drug. Dopemine, I think.

Jesus and Santa were both anti-capitalism at the root of their stories, and yet have (been) turned into capitalist icons since long before the twenty first century. It’s much the way that Jesus became pro-monarchy during the middle ages: The elites pay to get their propaganda published.

It’s much the way the Lorax sells Subarus now: The house always wins.

This may be me being neurodivergent and dumb, but I’m not seeing the associative link between the breach-load grape-shot cartridge (short range, anti-infantry) and the states rights civil war myth.

Am I missing something?

uriel238, to 196 in Would you like to see Britannia rule again
@uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Huh. In the eighties when I first saw it, the question came up, and reports came they hired pro-labor skinheads which were a British movement even before the white-power movement started shaving their heads. Now it totally makes sense that the Hammerskins might rise in the late eighties since racial power movements typically recruit from young people searching for more of an identity, and will often attach themselves to anything. But the sequence was definitely meant to be anti-fascist satire.

Lindsay Wagner noted that movies that explore fascist themes run the risk of inspiring racial power movements to adopting the symbols used in films. In her case she was noting the difference of reaction to movies like American History X and Mel Brooks’ The Producers (aka Springtime For Hitler ), where Brooks’ offerings have been completely immune to adoption by fascist movements.

And mocking the GOP’s intimate connection to the transnational white power movement in the US (which Haley will not opposing, having being a full-throated MAGA) was my intention in responding to Haley.

Common in the US when interacting with law enforcement. Kids in poor neighborhoods have to train how to behave to deter officer aggression.

To be fair the smoke from black powder would obscure the last frame.

The golden age of shootouts and wild west banditry was after they invented smokeless powder, so they could shoot you without billows of smoke revealing their location.

It was a rough early relationship. Early staples were not conducive to agriculture. Generations of selective breeding and grafting gave us better plants for crops. We both made the relationship work for mutual benefit.

If someone tried to ram someone else with their truck because of a disagreement on policy in Israel, that counts as doing a terrorism. It may also count as doing a hate crime.

uriel238, to 196 in Rule The Police
@uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The US Supreme Court has ruled that passwords are protected by the fifth amendment protection against self-incrimination.

Biometrics are not.

Law enforcement hacking into your device is acceptable. Evidence on your device remains admissable with probable cause, a warrant or a judge who likes the police / dislikes you.

Some judges will hold you in contempt for failing unlock your own device. (fourteen years is the record on contempt jail terms). So YMMV once youre facing charges.

Theres also a forgone conclusion rule. If the prosecutors can show sufficient evidence to a crime exists on your device, you can be compelled to open it. I do not know how this proof happens.

Also some judges (including SCOTUS by a ruling) just dont care if the evidence of a crime was legally obtained, they let it be admissible because locking you away is more important than state actors following protocols that preserve civil rights. Id est, the whole of the fourth and fifth amendments to the Constitution of the United States are as slippery as Schrödinger’s cat.
