Huh, so what other have mentioned, South-East Asia now have a better ping to European gaming servers than US West Coast (or any US-based gaming servers).

This is interesting. I'm going to expand my test in the future. But for now, the results are the same with or without VPN. I guess ASEAN now have a direct connection to the EU IX and uses the latest technology?

I wonder where our connection passes through to get to the EU.

Here in the Philippines, our connection goes through:

  1. Taiwan or Hong Kong
  2. From there it travels the Pacific Ocean to US West Coast.
  3. From US West Coast, it travels to Central.
  4. From Central to East Coast.
  5. From East Coast to Europe.

If we now have a connection direct to EU IX, then it means we're no longer passing through the US?

Any IX experts out there?

It looks like by 2025, connection with the US West Coast is going to be far better than it already is. I guess, from a gamer perspective, we should stick to North American servers. LOL ^_^;; Maybe the EU connection is better right now because there were projects which were recently completed?? But once the other projects connecting us to US West Coast are online, our NA connection will still be better in the long run.

A game I recently started playing is ToME or Tales of Maj'Eyal. It is a roguelike singleplayer game.

It has been around since 2010, but it goes all the way back if we count its predecessors. It is also an open-source game.

As of this post:

  • There are already 3 expansions.
  • The 4th expansion is set to enter beta testing soon.
  • The 5th expansion is already being developed in parallel.

Give it a try, available in Linux, Windows, and OSX. (Also available via Steam.)

@hornedfiend @schamppu I think the game is set to medium sensitivity, or Low. There are some fitness apps with a sensitivity setting, and if you place it high, it is more accurate. The problem arises if you're just moving your phone, since it's high sensitivity, it counts those as steps. So, most apps have it at medium or Low. That's my guess at least.

@trashgirlfriend I remembered, , a space gamification fitness app, have an option to "boost" steps when you're about to go on a long walk/run/jumping rope session. You can use it once every 24 hours only (and only lasts for 2 hours IIRC).

I think, now that you suggested it, that was maybe their solution to keeping the sensitivity fixed for their game, but giving users a chance to earn more if they're about to engage in a long session.

This year, I bought the entire packs/bundles of classics via as well as 1 to 7 via .

The last time I played most of these were from 1988 to 1996. One or two I played again sometime early 2000s, randomly.

I already started with and Part 1, and I'm already cheating. ROFL. I mean, the packs made it easy to cheat.

Back in the 90s, we had to use a hex editor like . We open the savegame file, search through it through the hex editor, and did our magic.

LOL.

Q: What are the five (5) video games from the 20th Century that you want to be able to play again today? And why?

I'll start with mine.

(in no particular order)

It seems easier to play than , but as you progress, it is actually challenging. I love the challenge.

  1. / (DOS version specifically).

If I am not mistaken, before there was the franchise, there was “Empire”. It was a fun game. There is available on , but I miss the DOS version that I played a lot.

A very fun game. Once I start playing this, time flies fast. I miss this game.

Modern games today are usually limited to certain themes. If it's flight, it's flight. If it's tank, it's tank. If it's strategy, that's it. Carrier Command have it all.

Years before the era of came. RPG-ish space game that made me felt exploring space. This was new to me then and I enjoyed it.

I know, we can still play this today, however, what I miss with this game is the 2 player mode.

You just play with your friend and blast each other to friendly matches and laughter.

Being able to play 2P mode, face-to-face, is something that we have taken for granted, and now we're all just virtual avatars in online games (even online multiplayer games).
