main plot locations are more handcrafted plus quests/factions
the rest of non-plot locations are just fillers to do gathering and fight procedural generated mobs settlements.
I don't think it's a big galaxy anyway, but probably a couple hundred systems with about 50~70 populated by the developers. So more like "local region".
did a bit google and I am right on the last bit already. source
There are over 100 Starfield star systems to find and explore, grouped by level that create difficulty tiers depending on where you go at your current level.
edit: oh, and judging from the video shown, their star system's planets will remain pretty close together just for better visuals. Space is incredibly huge and if they even put planets like what we have the night sky would be pretty boring. They can't afford to do proper nbodies simulation so most of plantes/moons etc are just orbiting on specific pace/path that are not realistic or physically correct.(judging from how they put planet together, the gas giant vs rocky planet sizes are pretty off as well.)

It might not be a bad thing for a Beth game, after all, all that space is free real estate for modders, and it will lead to less conflicts since big mods can just take over a bunch of planets no one else really uses, and everyone can take over different ones. Or even add new ones I guess.
I think it's likely the right call to lock it to 30 on Xbox though maybe a 40fps mode would have been possible like Ratchet and Clank had on PS5, it's a bigger difference in responsiveness than you'd think. (33% faster!)
I also think not including SSR was probably smart, it can look really good at certain angles or stills but the effect is never quite coherent when you are actually playing the game due to occlusion and disocclusion. The dynamic cube maps will give a more grounded and sensible look to larger reflective surfaces even if you are technically sacrificing higher quality reflections.
None of the moves they made are a huge surprise to me, Bethesda as a rule generally tries to prioritize immersive and self consistent visuals over absolute fidelity. You can get used to 30fps, it's hard to feel immersed when the frame rate is bouncing up and down.
I think it’s likely 30 fps is the norm specifically because of the Xbox s. In all likelihood they could have made a 60fps version but they know ultimately it’s the low hanging fruit that must be developed for.
I don't think it was a factor at all, they are both very very close in terms of CPU power, which MS did so any game could easily be run on both by just dropping some graphical fidelity and calling it a day.
I also reckon that as this generation finally starts releasing games that push the hardware, we'll start seeing 30 fps games release more often. 60 fps was nice while games were still multi-plat but I can't see that commitment being sustainable if we want to see what a Series X can really do.
I watched it yesterday, and man, was that a trip. It was the first blindfolded speedrun I watched and it's just ridiculous what some people can do with enough determination.
I watched live, Thunderblight is the most south I've seen a big run go in awhile. I was so worried we were gonna have another time out, but they pulled through in the end. What an exciting run.
I'm disappointed they don't have the capability to work on ES, Fallout, and this in parallel. You'd think that they sold enough Skyrim units to do that but seem to feel like they can't do all those things at once.
in the near future, I can only support Windows. It's not because of technical issues (in fact, the game is technically ready for Steam deck, even with controller support), but because of resources since I'm a solo dev making games on weekends. So, the plan is to make it work well on Windows and then other platforms. But, if there is enough support from people in other platforms (by wishlisting, for example), the process can be much faster.
As a roguelike, I aim for complexity, so yeah, it's just a teaser, the game's still in very early development. I'll update a new trailer when more things are added. Wishlist and follow so you won't miss.
this is one of those videos that i'm pretty confident is just timeless, and no matter how many times i come back to it i still get enjoyment out of viewing it. pretty rare for what's essentially a meme video, i'd have to say!
"See that mountain? You can climb it!" Also when watching Starfield's gameplay demo, I thought "yeah Todd, tell us more of those sweet little lies." One Xbox executive also claimed that Starfield is Bethesda's least buggy game, and oh boy, that's rather bold.
