This is exactly the feeling I had when I played Assassinā€™s Creed and picked up a flag that said ā€œ1/100ā€. That happened multiple times, since there are 400 flags in the game. And what do you get? Absolutely nothing but an achievement.

I hold Mario Odyssey up as a shining example of how to make large optional objectives fun. You donā€™t really get much of a reward for getting all 999 moons, but at least the vast majority of them have fun puzzles to solve so that itā€™s actually rewarding to collect them. Contrast this with, say, Korok seeds.

I know Iā€™m in the minority but I HATE collectibles in games. They always completely kill the immersion for me. Wherever beautiful world was build is immediately transformed into some video game graphics when I find collectibles. I will never have the time nor care enough to collect them so they are just an annoying distraction. And letā€™s be honest all they are, are ways for the game devs to cheese the length of the game.

BruceTwarzen,

Itā€™s worse than that. I donā€™t see how it even adds anything to any game. It just seems lazy, and i would never pick up anything that isnā€™t just on the way. There are games where you get something for the collectibles, but even then, i wish you could just make them go away.

Focie,

Depends on the kind of collectible and the kind of game it is, I suppose. Collectibles for my house in Monster Hunter is awesome.

Feathers in Assassinā€™s Creed is not.

this is what the company behind this says itā€™s useful for:

Wildfire Control and Prevention

first two sound pretty reasonable to me, as someone with a very basic understanding of wildfire control.
snow and ice removal, i mean itā€™s definitely gonna do that but i canā€™t think of any place where it would be necessary to use a robot dog for it.
the last oneā€™s self explanatory.

iā€™d love to be optimistic and say that this robot will only get used for harmless or good deeds but i know this thing is already being retrofitted by cops to shoot tear gas or some bullshit
