I loved Control, would I enjoy Alan Wake 1 or 2? I always thought they were horror games that I generally don't enjoy, but if it's Control-like horror with more focus on eldritch mystery and plot twists rather than gore and jumpscares I kinda want to try it.

You might enjoy Alan Wake 1 but the controls aren’t for everyone. I absolutely loved it all the times I played but my friend couldn’t stand the combat.

The story is very mysterious and I can’t recall any gore at all in the game. The only kind of jump scares I can recall were from the combat when I didn’t notice an enemy snuck up on me. It’s something more easily manageable if you play on the easier difficulty as there is less of a threat.

The plot is really fucking great and has some of my favorite narration in a game. And it has a type of Eldritch horror story to it. You’ve probably already experienced it in that Alan Wake dlc for Control. You don’t have to deal with it in Alan Wake like you did in Control.

Son_of_dad,

I loved the tv show style format of the first game. I know a lot of people didn’t, but I liked playing a chapter per night the way I would watch a show I like. Even the “previously on” thing was neat and I appreciated it. I also liked that it wasn’t a super long game.

Remedy Entertaiment’s games are usually short but really enjoyable.

stephfinitely,

Control wasn’t that short. But you did say usually so fair enough.
