Thunderbird with Hotkeys and general cleanup?

That video is basically just a “this concept is kinda cool but the product sucks”

Thunderbird is pretty messy currently.

The steps I would like is:

  • make the mailbox “filter” search the main search, remove the “everywhere” search which is annoying
  • remove the sidebar or actually replace tabs with it
  • remove redundant right-click-menu entries
  • remove some buttons etc
  • hotkey most of the UI things

I would like to collaborate on achieving this, do you know projects doing stuff like that?

I know SimpleMenuWizard for Firefox but nothing equivalent for TB. Same with vimium for hotkeys.

Edit: oops tired german spello, lets see if everyone of you gets the updated title, mastodon for sure doesnt.

I really prefer that Thunderbird isn’t going the route of overly clean form-over-function design that many modern apps have.

Hard agree on the need for hotkeys though, using it using only keys is something I’m desperately missing

possiblylinux127,

What are you asking and how does this video relate?

I need context

rollingflower,

The video just shows some overpriced “keybinding simplistic mail” concept. And Thunderbird is the most advanced mail program out there. So the question is, what components to recreate this already exist, how to fill the holes?
