looks alright color scheme is a bit gaudy and not a huge fan of the big miyoo logo. they can do better than this, i think. i have the miyoo mini plus and really enjoy it so have high hopes.
Do retroachievements even make sense on such a portable device? As far as I know, they don't function at all when offline. When I'm in the range of my wifi, I'm more likely to grab something more akin to a Steam Deck, so Miyoo devices would almost always stay offline.
I have the Plus one, also very happy with the size, so all's good. I just know I keep the wifi off almost all the time, so I'm quite confused by the RA craze.
Retro achievements are just a nice way to focus on specific games. Since not every game has them, it’s a nice way to whittle down the choice paralysis. It’s nice to just keep track of the progress of your games as a whole too.
However, I do wish the overall RA community was less obsessed with the fake internet points that come with them though. That’s why there’s no plan for an offline version, they’re scared people will manipulate their scores. It’s dumb.
I love the idea of using RA for new game discovery or choosing which one to play! I need to try it out, even without actually using the achievements themselves. Thanks for sharing!
Don't they have a "hardcode" mode already for that?
If I had a portable retro console system like that, wifi and retroachievement support would be something definitely on my list of things I’d want. Retroachievements are great for many reasons.
If it works best with older systems, then why the thumb sticks i wonder. Hope they can bump up the power for at least n64 and psp. That would be so nice.
Because they are selling the product the customers think they are getting, not the one that they actually get. I guarantee that a device with thumb sticks and lousy performance will sell better than one without sticks and with better performance.
I picked up a Miyoo Mini Plus earlier this year as an impulse buy, and ended up liking it enough that I regret not buying a higher end model with analog sticks. Still, don't know if it's worth trying to upgrade now - I'm waiting for the day we can get a full SteamOS device in this form factor.
I’d prefer no scratches at all, even if that means sacrificing probability, I mean, we could always use screen protectors for that matter, in fact I did, but it never stopped me from overprotecting my clamshell handhelds.
I'm even more worried about the exposed L/R buttons. I have an otherwise perfectly functional Nintendo DS with these buttons being unreliable at best (received second hand already like that). Not that I have any better idea how to solve this, but I'd definitely not just chuck it into a backpack. Maybe a pocket.
