It isn’t. We really do have a two party system. Voting for a third party that’s closer to your ideology just takes a vote away from the major party candidate that’s the closest to it. We have several examples in the past where a third party candidate cost an election for the closest major party candidate, and zero examples where a third party candidate came close to winning. Roosevelt came by far the closest when he ran independent in 1912 and got 27% (which is why Wilson win).

OK I have met someone, first few conversations went alright, how do I transition to something else without being embarrassed and feeling like a dick? Where people get into trouble is when they assume that because the other person is being nice to them, it means they’re interested in something more. I know women who say they can hardly smile at a guy without being asked out on a date. But of course sometimes that are interested, and it can be hard to know without asking, which can be awkward for both.

If you think she might potentially be interested, you might consider inviting her to something casual, like getting a meal or seeing a movie. That in itself won’t tell you she’s interested, but if she’s not interested in something casual, she likely isn’t interested in more than what you have.

I’m old - there’s just so much that has and hasn’t happened…

Man, e got those here in southern California a few years back. They are so awful! They can breed in tiny amounts of water, like what’s in a cupped leaf on the ground. They don’t just bite at dusk, they do it anytime of the day or night. They aren’t great flyers, so they tend to bite your ankles or lower leg if they can. And their bites are horrendous - super itchy, big welts.

If/when they get there, the only things that we’ve found that help are fans (because they aren’t strong flyers, you can blow them away) and those mosquito catchers that lure them in with heat, light, and CO2. Actually DEET works well, but we don’t really want to cover ourselves with it everyday.

This right here. If you tell someone on the left that there’s credible evidence of a politician committing a crime, they say it should be investigated and prosecuted without asking who it is. On the right, the response completely depends on whether it’s their team or not.

That’s why folks on the right will stand behind Trump when he keeps highly classified documents with markings and refuses to return them, but will chant “Lock her up!” about Hilary using a private email server that had unmarked classified emails, even though she fully complied with the investigation.

It’s very cool. The race was between a climate scientist and a software engineer, both women. The climate scientist was much more liberal and won by a huge margin. Really good news all around, I’m jealous.

“Neoliberalism” is one of those terms that’s starting to lose meaning because different people use it to mean different things. I’m not an expert on her, but from what I’ve read, her views seem pretty vanilla progressive to me. Here’s what Wikipedia says about them:

Of course he said that. How is anyone even surprised at this point? Since Day 1 he’s been saying whatever he wants to be true at the time - creating his own “reality” - and his base goes with it. He’s never been burdened by the truth, and there’s been no repercussions for his flagrant lying. Yes, this is an outrageous lie, but even in that it’s unremarkable.
