ALostInquirer

I like to ask a variety of questions, sometimes silly, serious, and/or strange. Never asking in an attempt to pester or “just asking questions” stuff.

I’m generally curious and/or trying to get a sense of people’s views.

ALostInquirer,

Does ffmpeg work best standing? Or is it better spread out? Did it work properly if it finished fast?

ALostInquirer,

Does it sometimes seem like commenting in high traffic online spaces feels this way too, not just Reddit?

ALostInquirer,

Do people think it’s a good thing, or simply the thing where those they know are?

ALostInquirer,

How might we help and encourage people to leave Twitter?

ALostInquirer,

Do the add-ons you use specifically target Facebook? If so, what are you using to mitigate its manipulative/predatory designs?

ALostInquirer,

Tbh I didn’t mean to Lemmy, so much as simply off Twitter in general, preferably to a non-corporate social site. It may be naive/idealistic, but I think those most inclined to leave would be the better of the bunch, and those in-between are more apt to go to another corporate site anyway (e.g. Threads).

ALostInquirer,

Is living room a new name for worship space?

ALostInquirer,

What is the ontology of a concept or idea? If nothing doesn’t exist materially but strictly conceptually, does it not exist or is there a different term one should employ to refer to it? 🤔

ALostInquirer,

Have you seen Publii yet? Dunno how well it works on Linux, but there’s a version for Linux as well.

ALostInquirer,

Is this ever noted in any of the documentation, outside of some fine print, with the printer to let someone know that it’s being done? If your product is secretly leaving indicators for anyone aware of the indicators to track your actions in some way, that’s problematic in my opinion.

Given a printer is arguably a lesser issue anymore, but the same idea applies with other tech.

ALostInquirer,

What is a PMFN?

ALostInquirer,

What happens when the leadership or ownership changes hands?

ALostInquirer,

Oh, I hadn’t read of it in that form, thanks!

ALostInquirer,

Do you guys think we use Steam because we HAVE to? GoG exists bros, we’re using Steam because we prefer it.

Do you think many are aware of options like GOG? Every other time I’ve seen it mentioned/suggested, it’s often accompanied by, “What’s GOG?”

Stop using gitlab.com for projects - Credit card info required for new registrations

If your IP (and possible your browser) looks “suspicious” or has been used by other users before, you need to add additional information for registration on gitlab.com, which includes your mobile phone number and possibly credit card information. Since it is not possible to contribute or even report issues on open source...

ALostInquirer,

Then you’ve got seamless integration with Vscode as a bonus, it’s more like why would you not use GitHub unless you have a specific problem with them.

Does GitHub still only permit one account? I remember looking into it awhile back and not wanting to get things mixed up between personal/professional arrangements and the one account policy put me off.

ALostInquirer,

Would you happen to mean readers with filtering tools? If so I’m interested as well.

I know Thunderbird technically has them, but I’ve had trouble making them work as effectively as I’d like. RSSOwl had some that were easier to work with, but stopped being updated. There’s now a fork of it called RSSOwlnix, but I haven’t taken the time to see whether it still works as well or not. May be worth looking into though…

ALostInquirer,

If they’re already manager what do they need leadership coach for?

ALostInquirer,

Then this person is the problem and is projecting harder than a drive-in cinema.

Do their bulbs also burst far too easily?

It looks like Suicide Squad is going to clock in around 9-10 hours based on my capture time. Probably a little shorter if you don't do some boss fights with under-leveled characters. (twitter.com)

Nitter link: twiiit.com/DestinLegarie/…/1752363668988449004 (Now fixed!) Might have to use this link multiple times to find a instance that isn’t rate limited or check the wiki and change the url manually.

ALostInquirer,

Might it be better in future to screenshot the post, quote the text and cite the author/poster, supposing one wants to avoid any linking to Twitter?

ALostInquirer,

This Meshtastic, I take it? I haven’t personally used it, but it sounds interesting! Not too surprising there’s not much info about it though, as it does sound rather niche.

ALostInquirer,

Which of these have people here played, and might recommend?

Sega "Gold Cartridge" in Master System

Hi, I’m looking for info on the compatibility of the “Gold Cartridge” with regards to the Master System. I was looking at one of these and it says on the box that it’s made for the Mark III and Master System. However, the form factor is different than other Master System cartridges, and it’s also nothing like a Sega...

ALostInquirer,

Were you looking at one of them online, or offline in a shop? If the former, do you have a link that might help ensure one’s on the same page?

ALostInquirer,

Isn’t Trump in the same boat? Trump’s 77, Biden’s 81. One may easily argue they’re both much too old to be running.

ALostInquirer,

Perhaps a transition to a not-for-profit organization structure might be what folks would prefer? It seems like a potentially better alternative than going public, but I’m not sure how it might work in practice for something like a digital storefront.

In a weird way, one could almost argue that’s roughly how Valve’s been operating anyway, except I imagine they’ve been lining their pockets more than a not-for-profit organization’s owners/employees do.

ALostInquirer,

But you agreed to it.

When does an agreement become null and void when the knowledge and time needed to understand the terms, and especially whether they even stand in the various jurisdictions, is simply unfeasible for a layperson to be expected to possess?

In a similar vein, if an agreement requires a lawyer on call/retainer to interpret, what court besides a bought court would possibly uphold such a standard?

Fwiw I’m not asking this with the expectation of you personally having the answers, but to further highlight the absurdity of many of these so-called agreements.

ALostInquirer,

Btw, did you know of Weightless Books and Smashwords?

They may not have as many ebooks as Amazon, but they do offer DRM free ebooks, and may be worth keeping in mind to check before going straight to Amazon.
