Microsoft… always two steps behind. They always just wait for someone else to demonstrate a successful idea, and then use their deep pockets to buy a piece of the pie.
Yea, that’s how companies work under capitalism. They are not trying to make the best games, they are trying to extract the most money. And apparently enough people are supporting this behaviour.
Nintendo doesn’t develop Pokémon. That’s Gamefreak. I agree Pokémon games are shitty games, and I don’t understand why people buy them. But most games made by Nintendo is usually quite good. You might not like the genre or whatever, but Nintendo games are usually pretty bug free with decent performance and pretty good gameplay. Personally I feel like Nintendo does deliver on quality most of the time.
And yes, Nintendo are greedy like all public companies in a capitalist society. They have an obligation to shareholders to earn as much money as possible. And if they don’t make money doing something, they will stop, because they are not making games out the goodness of their little hearts. At least Nintendo doesn’t try to make every game into some micro transaction hell like Ubisoft, EA, Blizzard, Epic Games.
DoctorButt, you are saying an excellent game isn’t worth $40. If Helldivers 2 to is not worth $40 I don’t know what games are worth that. Despite some bugs this game still provide excellent entertainment and lots of fun with friends. And that’s what you are paying for. And you don’t need railguns.
However the game is needlessly difficult right now because all the enemies have 100 percent armour penetration and they are basically useless. This will probably be fixed in the next patch. It doesn’t mean it’s not worth the price.
It’s 40 bucks, that’s about the same price for a ticket to see Dune and popcorn and a coke. I think it’s a reasonable price for what you get. I haven’t encountered any game breaking bugs in my 20 hours playtime. Maybe it’s a problem later, but if you have played 50 - 100 hours you have gotten your money’s worth already.
And don’t complain about the lack of nuance and then begin to call everyone who doesn’t agree with you morons and idiots.
I feel the same way. MMOs is just way too time consuming. And I feel like there is always some pressure to keep up. I already got that covered by work. Give me a small scale coop I can play with a couple of friends.
Pokémon is really a master class in how you can sell a terrible product with enough advertising and strong branding. It doesn’t matter that Pokemon games are terrible, fans are so into the brand that they will keep buying it.
I disagree. A Switch Lite is much better for a 6 year old than a big and clunky Steam Deck. I own a Steam Deck. It’s a fine device. But Nintendo works with their own hardware. I’m not even sure we would have a Steam Deck if Nintendo didn’t make the Switch and showed how much demand there is for dedicated handheld devices. Also Nintendo is better at taking risk with hardware designs than Sony and Microsoft. Other consoles makers just keep making the same box, just a bit better every generation. If anything Sony and Microsoft should just give up their hardware, and make PC games. Nintendo at least take some risk and try to do something different on the hardware front.
I think there need to be a balance. If it’s a service game, they need money to keep servicing the game. There is a fine line between a reasonable voluntary option to support a game in exchange for some symbolic cosmetic and gross predatory practices.
I would not call Deep Rock Galactic predatory… They release one! cosmetic pack for each season, and that’s it? There is no whales to catch, because in that case it’s very limited how much you can even spend. Like 10 euro every 4-5 months and that’s it. Is that predatory to you?
It’s an early access game. If you buy it now you are buying promises and the chance to be a beta tester. And that’s okay, if you don’t get emotional if things don’t turn out as expected.
Well that’s why they need to hire the original writers. I don’t think anybody would consider Baldurs Gate especially political, maybe expect for a few fringe right wingers. But Larian have the resources, technical expertise and know how to build a big RPG and if they bought the IP, I’m sure they would respect the source material. You wouldn’t want to make a Disco Elysium game if you where to afraid to get political.
These companies are using dark design patterns to manipulate kids and young people into a pattern of behaviour. You can blame consumers, but it’s not exactly a fair fight. These big companies have behaviour specialists employed and tons of data, used specifically to get people to act dumb in a way that benefits these companies. Heroin pushers are more honest.
I’m all for personal responsibilities. In fact I believe all drugs should be legal. But if alcohol companies began heavily advertising drinking for kids or young people, making it look like fund and cool and make it easily accessible, I think regulation is needed. People have the right to be stupid and do with their money and body whatever they want, but companies should not be allowed to promoted this behaviour. They should simply offer it and nothing more.
