The game leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Stunlock fucked over their playerbase with Battlerite, shifted dev focus onto a Battle Royale, which was supposed to be a gamemode, made a standalone game, fractured the community, then took what they had so far and rehashed it for a yet another new game.
Battlerite in it self was a second attempt by SLS, first was Bloodline Champions. Battlerite took what BLC was and made it super polished, I loved the gameplay, it was truly all skill, had a very WoW arena feel to it.
But it just seems that this is not a formT that people are into. On the one hand I get it, it is kind of sweaty, OTOH, the matches were super short.
Other notable examples of short burst fun competitive games, that just missed the mark for the general public: OmegaStrikers (basically as dead, still not quite there) and SpeedRunners (still a good pickup for playing with friends, if you strictly play together and don’t practice outside of your group, endless fun).
I mean, ive played some dota in the past, i have about 200h on it, not nearly as much as league tho. But IME, especially for solo, league is just nicer overall. The mechanics for champions seem a lot more polished these days, and it is a lot more action focused, you have to worry about macro much less. The games are also like 50% shorter in league. As a solo player I find league to be a lot more laid back, where I can just play the champ more than play the game, if that makes sense.
To each their own of course, Im not saying one game is better than the other, but it is a hard sell to transition league to dota.

In league non-ranked matchmaking is pretty all over the place. It is also supposed to be mmr based. In a single session i can play vs everything from iron to emerald, how is it in dota?
Its a good game but most releases are DLC level, yet they are forcing the player to buy, at least every few releases, because you slash the remaining userbase every time you release a new game.

There is a (now basically dead) game that I had high hopes for, called Omega Strikers. Top down moba air-hockey blend. Tons of high octane fun.
It had both an option for wasd and traditional moba control. The consensus by /theydidthemath type folks was that clicking in non wasd axis directions meant you can get certain movements ever-so-slightly quicker since you move along a straight line instead of using whatever two lines that you need to get to that spot. Now it is a question of it it actually mattered but that was true.
The midle way would be an analog stick.
I don’t think that wasd or even analog can be called more precise either, they require you to stop the movement input precisely on the spot you want, where as with clicking you just point and click…
Theres also the point that point and click (or analog stick) means you can move directly in an axis that is not possible by WASD, so off the 8 wasd axes, this will be quicker than WASD (although not by THAT much).
Oh, okay, I misunderstood. For some reason I thought you meant some games might compensate the movement in a non-45 diagonal. Direction locking makes sense in some games.

They had a month to level to 60 and gear up, most normal people aren’t into wasting a month to enter a tournament with practically no odds of getting anything. If you die in the tournament your character is done, so naturally the contestants are largely going to be people with some confidence and time to spare.
There were hardly people here who are James LeBron level when it comes to WoW, a lot of them are in fact closer to hobbyists and the tournament itself was not even close to NBA level. Both chess and basketball have hobby level tournaments that have prize money on the line.
I hadn’t seen ESDF in FPS, I personally used to use it in WoW.
But mousewheel scroll is actually a great jump bind for when you precisely need to input the next jump action to time it with the end of the last. This is less an FPS thing and more a movement thing. Spacebar (or other buttons) will only work if you hit it at the precise time, while mousewheel is a lot more forgiving, since it is multiple inputs in quick succession, kind of like the rapid-fire macros. Like I suck at bhopping for example, but I could do some easy bhop sequences in cs 1.6 with scrollwheel, there is no way I would be able to with spacebar.
