HollandJim,

Easy for many to jump on the “fuck Apple” bandwagon, but the EU doesn’t say what they want - just “nope, it’s not that…”.

The EU Is Reaping What It Sows With the DMA: Uncertainty

Grow up

Okay - sorry. Too many trolls have given me a bad reflex action

HollandJim,

Thanks for that. Sometimes I wish /s was more popular here, for tone-deaf people like me.

HollandJim,

But if you think about it, millennials could be pushing a dialogue in popular media that Boeing is part of the big industrial war machine, and deserves to die. I’ve heard lesser fabricated arguments on the Internet.

In any event, thanks for the heads up.

Chinese military harassed Dutch warship enforcing UN sanctions on North Korea, Netherlands says (www.cnn.com)

A Dutch warship was harassed by Chinese military aircraft in the East China Sea on Friday, the Netherlands said, becoming the latest country to accuse Beijing’s forces of initiating potentially unsafe encounters in international waters....

HollandJim,

Makes sense. Highest voter turnout since 1989, voting for Europe and the Green Party/ D66 Liberal Democrats. Left party strong win - so of course non-Dutch media will say there’s a horse race.

Pfft.

HollandJim,

Biden’s next move? It’s Miller Time, pal.

HollandJim,

“This is a disappointment for the millions of Eurovision fans in the Netherlands and other European countries”

Netherlands: Meh. Best weather we’ve had in months. Let’s have a BBQ instead.

HollandJim,

And Linux is?

I want you to tell grandma how to update her video driver. Over the phone.

HollandJim,

Everyones own milage may vary, I’m not going to argue every comment. Good they can use Linux though - my parents never wanted to know anything but be pure users, so I did the same for them and in out case Mac was easier.

I just don’t see the point of slighting any OS when it’s used as an appliance, which - for the most part with family, is its role.

HollandJim,

Yeah, but being “very sorry” is not good enough. He needs to have at least a misdemeanor judgement against him (felony, I believe, precludes him from holding office) and any second offence should mean revocation of his permit.

This is why we need strict gun laws; to keep people like this guy from weakening the law.

Republicans have this Reagan-era thing called the “11th Commandment” - you fall in line with the leader, no dissent voiced in the party. So basically, party first, the needs of the nation second.

They also believe there is a fixed amount of funds available for anything, and it’s basically the Hunger Games if you want to fight for your constituency. The rich though are always supported.

Democrats have had this idea of “the Big Tent” since the FDR days; there’s room for everyone and we need to consider at everyone’s views to work together. Basically the polar opposite of Republicans - they’re all Black and White thinking, and Dems live and build in the Greys where the rest of us are. Dems are a mix of financial conservatives, centrists and progressives, and each section does it part to pull the party forward, together.

We’re also quick to beat up on one of our own if they’re taking graft - hello, Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey. Can you imagine the Republicans doing this? No, I didn’t think so.

HollandJim,

I’d take a Don Beyer over any young Republican lackey any day (hello, Moscow Marge).

Fuck age - I want a thinking person with real experience, who makes an effort to do what’s right for all of us.

HollandJim, (edited )

Don’t forget, he’s also on the hook for $110K per day in interest, starting from the judgement day, and I don’t think she’ll let him dodge a nickle of it.

You go, girl!

HollandJim,

Ah yes, the 11th Commandment. Party unity before all else (like, you know, the country)

Israeli troops shoot and kill a Palestinian shepherd reading the Quran on his land (www.haaretz.com)

Three soldiers pounce on a shepherd sitting outside his sheep pen. They knock him over and then one of them shoots him to death at point-blank range. Fakher Jaber, a father of four, was suspected of involvement in an incident that probably never happened...

HollandJim,

You’re going to have a hard time with that answer when you face your God.

I’ve pretty much put everything aside except for my handheld retro gaming thingie - a Miyoo Mini+ - and honestly, I prefer to spend all my time playing 1980s-90s video games. And the arcades! Let’s not forget the arcades… it’s just simpler and more satisfying, and if I lose in 5 minutes that’s fine - I’ll get hours back to do other things in my life.

Berzerk, Altered Beast, Bubble Bobble, Super Mario world, and of course, Tetris… I’ve got hundreds of games, but these pretty much are my favs. It’s just get in, play a game or two, and get out… I’ve had what I wanted. I don’t really enjoy the games nowadays with there’s too much work involved (but then again, I am of an era…)

HollandJim,

I’m sorry but fuck Poe.

We’re speaking of genocide here - be serious or use a /s.

HollandJim,

Trying to learn Indonesian now, but it’s basically the “travel period” we think of for Christmas or the the US Thanksgiving. It’s just that they have a phrase for it (I’m thankful there’s no future or past tense…)

HollandJim,

Indonesia’s population is predominantly Muslim, and while I don’t know the ins and outs, some holidays like Ramadan, family (I’m told) is expected to be home. Also, Indonesia is as long as the US, and many airports inside the country still haven’t opened up air travel to the same extent it was before the pandemic, so that means boats, trains and buses. There’s a lot of people to move.

Plane veered off flight path after both pilots fell asleep, Indonesian authorities say (www.cnn.com)

Indonesia’s transport ministry will launch an investigation after two Batik Air pilots fell asleep during a recent flight, according to state news agency Antara, citing the ministry’s civil aviation director-general M Kristi Endah Murni....

HollandJim,

That could also point towards overworked pilots.

HollandJim,

But they both needed to sleep. The flight is just 2h 40min (I’ve done this before) so it’s likely they both needed to rest a bit. I know a number of pilots in US and European airlines, and they’ve always maintained that these commuter runs are a grind.

HollandJim,

Just consider reality occasionally, ‘k?

HollandJim,

Sorry, but that’s too simplistic. Israel’s support is too engrained in the politics of the US and other countries, and they could easily throw monkey wrenches in all directions. It makes the situation worse, not better. Netanyahu has to removed, but as it is now he has to be worked through, and that’s what’s slowing everything down.

HollandJim,

That’s not what I’m saying - Arabic nations still need to attend to their own home-grown evils before they can attempt to label other empires as such. You seem set on a particular mindset, and I’m not going to waste any more time with people twisting my words for their own agenda.

HollandJim,

Wow we all love people that can’t admit when they’re wrong don’t we

(Edit: yes, no punctuation hurts for this joke but the lack of contractions is a bridge too far)

HollandJim,

it was actually pretty tame

…et tu, Bruté?

We have elections. They had assassinations. I’d say, not quite as tame as you’d infer.

HollandJim, (edited )

nevermind

HollandJim,

Sorry - I think I lost who said what to whom. Nevermind.

HollandJim,

That’s some serious spin there in the title.

HollandJim,

Then? He’s geriatric now.

Ah, the miracles of plastic surgery and not moving your expression much.

HollandJim,

I’ve a bunch of 2600s on my Miyoo - never play them.

I won’t begrudge someone from getting hardware if this is how they swing, but I never was into the 2600…ColecoVision was my first 8-bit. Man’s gotta have standards, you know.

HollandJim,

(Raises hand)

Had one of the second-gens for a few months; wisely was able to sell it on once I moved with a bunch of carts. It was wild to have a color screen at that time (well before Nintendo) and some games like Rygar and Blue Lightning were fun…but damn, did it eat batteries, 6 AAs at a time, IIRC. That thing was in need of a Mr Fusion.
