I just got a RG353v and a friend at work has a modded switch. We were planning on playing games at lunch and I am looking for recommendations. Good news! If you can get the person you wish to punch to get one of those haptic feedback vests, wear it on their face, and then meet them in a compatible game like Pavlov VR, you can punch them in the face over TCP/IP! 😃

I’ll finally get to play this \o/

Never had it when it was new, and playing the original on a modern machine (even with GOG’s version) doesn’t really work. Riven and Creatures 2 are the only GOG games that refuse to work for me, and it sucks because those are the two I have wanted to play the most, the longest since I knew of them as a kid, but never had them.

I fuckin’ love Myst’s lore. My favorite book of all time became The Book of Ti’ana because of it going into great detail about the height and fall of D’ni. I’ve even made models of the city in Minecraft based on the descriptions of it in that book.

That exists. It’s called adaptive charging. If you have a modern Pixel: Just set an alarm before plugging the phone in, and it will slow the charge to hit 100% when the alarm goes off. I don’t know what other phones have this feature but I’m pretty sure it’s just part of Android 14 if the hardware is compatible.

Adaptive triggers make sense because not many games use it even on PS5 and it’s a very specific function that isn’t replicated by any other hardware yet; but why doesn’t eye tracking or HDR work with existing software on the PC side?

But why would I have to use their software? There’s no other options for the triggers that I am aware of, but there’s tons of software for HDR and face tracking. A lot of it is FOSS, too.

I’m just wondering if the internal camera would at least be picked up as a generic camera so you could use any of the things that let you get face tracking just from a camera feed (as I do now), or if they literally have no translation drivers for it to even be detected on Windows or Linux as hardware.

They do work in a couple of PS5 ported PC games. IIRC, Returnal and R&C: A Rift Apart have working adaptive triggers on PC. But you also have to have the controller plugged in with the cable; it doesn’t work via BT.

Those things are complicated as fuck. An arcade cabinet is relatively simple compared to a pinball machine. Even modern ones still need all the moving parts for the board; video game just needs the computer, a controller and a screen.

Depends on when it was made. A modern, multi-game cabinet could run entirely on a Raspberry Pi and cost far less to build than a console.

I would rather play Outer Worlds than Starfield, and I hated Outer Worlds because it was sold to me as being Fallout 4 with a better dialogue system and it’s not even remotely different. Like everyone complained that FO4 only had 3 choices “Yes, no, and funny yes” but that’s exactly how it’s done in Outer Worlds, too.

The terrain isn’t but the POIs are randomly placed. When you open the scanner and see things like “man-made structure” or “cave” or whatever; those are all random and won’t be in the same place for every new game.

The side quests definitely were also lacking. Like, I know there’s only about 4 archetypes of quests (fetch, escort, kill and checkpoint) that you can really do, but you make them interesting with the story and reasons for doing the thing. Starfield really just made a majority of quests “go get this mcguffin because we need mcguffins,” with nothing really cool or interesting about it.

DF was 100% designed around telling a story using RNG. Game is like a mad lib. Starfield didn’t go that far (most games don’t). I actually do not ever expect AAA games with procedural generation to do more than just give you endless repetition over randomness that generate compelling and unique “stories” the way DF or RimWorld do.
