Lojcs,

Can we not link archives in post link section? They have really bad loading times and are mobile incompatible. Put them in the body if you want

vg247.com/marvel-rivals-alpha-contract-doesnt-let…

Lojcs,

Then use an adblock

Lojcs,

They serve the desktop html to everyone. Text either doesn’t fit the screen or you need to zoom out and then it’s too small to read.

And the time difference is significant too. 1-2.5s original site, 3-10+s archive. It’s a worse experience, especially if you have adblock on.

What’s wrong with giving the original link as default? That way not only would everyone have a good experience (and those who use adblock or a proxy / custom front-end etc would get the experience they expect), but all that traffic wouldn’t unnecessarily burden the chosen archive site neither. Again, put it in the body if you want.

Lojcs,

Basically you get the best of… nearly everything.

But I don’t get the best of everything. I get the experience you want to have, which is not the same as mine. I don’t want to wait forever for the archive to dig the site out if nobody has accessed it the last few minutes. I don’t want to have to use Firefox reader mode to have an acceptable experience. Not to mention that you can use reader view with most sites themselves and get all its benefits anyways.

I don’t want compulsory ad blocking. I know hating online publications in hip here but maybe I want them to survive so I don’t want to block their ads. And conversely I don’t want to put unnecessary traffic on archive websites from everyone going through them to read the article as opposed to only the people that want to.

If you access from Europe you get a “cookie wall” (which I don’t think it’s EU compliant)

I’m not from eu and that’s not the prompt I got. It only had accept and manage buttons and the manage button opened a thing that had a reject all button.

on the archive.org saved page you also get the online address too.

If the archive link wasn’t the default (and only) option you wouldn’t need to use reader mode or get the address from the archive (and waste time doing so) to get back to a good experience. Like I said, put the archive in the body if you want so that people have options, but don’t make it default.

Lojcs,

Wishing for a god of War collection or something of the sort worth the older games

Lojcs, (edited )

I’ll never understand people jumping to play unfinished games. There’s no way most of those 100k people are actually going to participate in the ea feedback / qa process, so all they’re achieving by playing early is spoiling the game for themselves with an inferior version. It’s not like this is made by an inexperienced studio that might keep it in ea indefinitely neither, you literally just need to wait a year to play it when it’s released. /r

Lojcs, (edited )

What made you think I want people to quit having fun? If anything it would be more fun to play once it’s finished, and it’s not like there’s a shortage of games to play in the meanwhile.

Edit: I just want people to give more thought into the games they play than “whatever’s on top of steam today”. Just because it became available now doesn’t mean you have to play it right away.

Lojcs,

Not just us, everywhere except the few places they listed

Lojcs,

I guess it’s not that few but still not much compared to the entire world

Does wb get any money from sales of adult swim published games on steam?

I have an urge to buy some of them on steam before they get delisted but don’t want to give any money to wb in the process. The way that apparently devs could just leave or sell/give away the game on other platforms made me think maybe wb doesn’t get a cut of every sale. Does anyone know that for certain?

Lojcs,

Does waydroid support safetynet? That seems to be what op is talking about

Lojcs,

It passes the basic one?

Lojcs, (edited )

which is why there are no browsers other than Safari

Wasn’t that explicitly forbidden? Browsers don’t need jit to be fast enough

Edit: was jit explicitly forbidden? Or is it that running dynamically loaded code was forbidden in general and jit falls under that category? If they’re letting emulators and other browser engines in that ban seems to be at least partially lifted

Lojcs,

This is surely before they started rounding off Jews right? I find it impossible to “not know” such a thing is happening without some cognitive dissonance going on

Lojcs,

“If everyone becomes Sato, we may have to be addressed by our first names or by numbers,” he said, according to the Mainichi. “I don’t think that would be a good world to live in.”

What’s wrong with names?

Lojcs,

I remember taser being a significantly better weapon than everything else? It one shots enemies on the body and doesn’t make noise.

Lojcs,

What’s with the drip feed CDPR pr articles?

Lojcs,

Am I weird for not reading the question and thinking this was about a cool single drop of blood needle gizmo

Lojcs, (edited )

Isn’t that how fdroid worked for a long time?

Edit: although it doesn’t make sense to me for play store to do the same without the source code available

Edit 2:

The reason is that they forced new apps AND apps for Android TV to use App Bundles developer.android.com/guide/app-bundleThis type of release cannot be installed as it but can be used to generate the apk files. In order to do so, the Play Store has to sign on the fly.

Not buying it. They could let the dev sign evey combination before uploading. They’ll be caching them anyways

Lojcs,

The equivalent of a 20-30 character random password with numbers and characters is a 7-11 word passphrase. Seeing how passphrase generators default to 4-5 words (equivalent to 11-14 characters) what you did isn’t so bad

Lojcs,

Perhaps the wave function always collapses no matter what, but the way it collapses changes? If there was no screen for the photons to interact with they’d continue to act like waves but since there’s a screen they collapse at some point on it dictated by the wave. And if you try to observe how they end up there you end up collapsing it earlier so where they go are dictated by the earlier state of the wave.

Lojcs,

Ign or strategy wiki are my first go when I’m stuck at a game. I can’t skim videos and game wikis usually have more information than what I want at that moment (spoilers and such).

Explicit sync Wayland protocol has finally been merged! (gitlab.freedesktop.org)

Since nvidia drivers do not properly implement implicit sync, this protocol not existing is the root cause of flickering with nvidia graphics on Wayland. This MR being merged means that Wayland might finally be usable with nvidia graphics with the next driver release....

Lojcs,

In addition to what others said a recent Nvidia driver update also added a workaround to reduce out of order frames without explicit sync. Ime it just made it so that resizing a flickering window makes it stop.

Lojcs,

Is the vrr flickering about explicit sync too?

Lojcs,

I mean, the vrr flicker doesn’t seem like a frame ordering issue since it happens on a static desktop too. Why I asked

Lojcs,

Apple silicon is in no way a ‘quantum leap’ over anything. Even arm’s general efficiency in low power situations diminish as it enters ultrabook territory

Lojcs,

Where did you pull that from? Both amd and Intel has 20W class cpus that compete with base m-series cpus while being based on older nodes

Lojcs,

OK it seems all ‘15W’ cpus from those brands boost much higher so the wattages aren’t as good as I thought but here are some that still compete:

M3 - 3nm, 20W
Amd 7840U - 4nm, 30W, 15% slower on single thread and 20% faster on multi thread.
Intel 1365U - 10nm, 25-55W, 15% slower on multi thread

Lojcs,

What’s the application of a laptop with more than 64GB of ram?

Lojcs,

Didn’t it already have that for years? Sounds like they’re ‘just’ adding support for signing in/ads

Lojcs,

Starting to think this is a conspiracy by Disney to make all its competitors obsolete

Lojcs,

It’s just that WB has been doing stupid decisions (and mergers) for a couple years and I wanted to make a joke.

Lojcs,

By that logic most AAA games would be indies and most devolver games would not. Indie isn’t about publishing

Lojcs, (edited )

are they actually independent, or do they depend on someone else for that monetary/technical/marketing support.

People don’t look at that because that’s not a useful metric. All the big publishers have their own studios so most things they publish are ‘independent’ by that definition, but they are the very thing people try to exclude when they say indie. In the indie definitions of both music and films, it is stated that they are independent from the established distributors, not that they are entirely self-distributed. It’s unreasonable to expect that from indie games.

And conversely for ‘independent’ to have any meaning it mustn’t include those who are in a position where others could depend on them whether through money, name recognition or some other thing. CDPR for instance, by the merit of being very well known and owning one of the most popular online stores is absolutely not an independent studio.

Edit: furthermore even when a large distributor is involved for marketing etc, this doesn’t mean the production of the art can’t still be largely independent.

Linux desktop appreciation post

I recently had to use windows for stuff and after a year of using Linux, it made me realise how janky windows is in comparison. Even on a top spec pc unminimized (or resized) windows flash white before their contents appear. Super-d to minimize/maximize doesn’t bring all windows back up or in the same order. And these are...

Lojcs,

This totally. Every oss office suite I’ve tried is either incompatible, glitchy or has weird workflow for some things. But ms office is available on the web for free so it doesn’t bother me

Lojcs,

10

Lojcs,

I guess experiences vary. My laptop is a quite old system so the problems are more apparent but as I said they exist in modern hardware too. I’ll try to record tomorrow to show what I mean.

I never had my laptop reboot on its own neither thankfully. Although forgot to mention the overhead windows has for seemingly no benefit. It constantly used 20% ish of the laptop’s cpu. And search indexer claiming external drives as its own and preventing ejection…

Lojcs,

https://files.catbox.moe/ytar81.webm

Here are depictions of (in order):
Resized window going white before it’s contents resize
Window tiling suggestions only animating right side of the screen
Windows rendering one by one after super+d
The kdeconnect stuttering I mentioned happening with passmark. Not sure if it’s visible in the video, but was very noticeable in person and also made the display brightness fluctuate. (This is probably a problem specific to my install/configuration as it didn’t used to happen in the previous install)
