It’s been proposed. Do a search for “soup tubes.”

Heretics and Chapterhouse are also weirdly horny. Sure, sex was always a big part of how the Bene Gesserit operated, but when they were made the hero faction it got… weird…

Those two books also fully raised Duncan to be the main character, though, and they introduced Miles Teg, so they have that going for them.

Paul’s son is the God Emperor, not Paul. Paul’s reign was actually pretty short, all things considered.

VindictiveJudge,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Little do people know the real main character of the saga died in the first act of the first book.

VindictiveJudge,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Better question - How many Duncan Idahos does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

VindictiveJudge,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Shhh! We don’t talk about Brian’s books.

He is technically the second person named Leto Atreides. Paul’s first son was named in the Fremen custom, which lacks surnames.

Villeneuve doesn’t even want to go that far. He plans on stopping once he adapts Messiah as Part 3.

I told a friend this and his response was, “I don’t like that I agree with you.”

Your comment and the OP act like the Tellarites don’t like anyone, but that’s not really true. The Tellarites and Vulcans got along just fine before Humanity showed up. The Vulcans probably figured out the Tellarites’ gimmick and decided that challenging each other’s ideas was how they arrived at a logical conclusion. The Andorians were probably too hot headed to get along with people who challenged them on everything, leading to them being in conflict during ENT.

As for how humans fit in, humans may be crazy bastards, but they also occupy a nice middle ground between the others. We can be as emotional as Andorians one day, as logical as Vulcans the next, and a number of our political systems were built on Tellarite-style arguing. Humans can hear out one ally, then explain their position to another in terms they’ll understand. We can also tell when Vulcans are secretly being driven by emotion, can leverage Andorian emotions to bring them to a more rational perspective, and debate Tellarites on even ground. Humans are the interpreters and negotiators that got these people to actually talk about their problems with each other and come to a reasonable compromise.

Humans in Trek seem to value individuality over conformity more than most of the other cultures. The ones most like them in that regard are probably Klingons and Bajorans. Likely contributes to the high number of crazy mavericks.

And Adira doesn’t get the dignity of even existing without having to declare themselves and struggling to fit in as well.

Contrast with Sisko, where him being black isn’t even mentioned until Season 6’s “Far Beyond the Stars,” or Jadzia’s bisexuality never being directly mentioned at all.

and, in reality, Vegas casinos were very racist at that time.

Not as much as you would think. The Rat Pack used their popularity to strong-arm the Vegas casinos into ending segregationist policies. The city was actually fully desegregated in 1960, in large part thanks to the Rat Pack’s actions. Vic seems to be a fictional member of the group invented by Felix, so it tracks that his personal establishment would be one of the most welcoming.

That’s a Protestant thing, not a Catholic thing.

Emperor: Battle for Dune was also fun.

Edit: And now that I think about it, Dune 2000 is a the remake, of Dune 2, specifically.

I don’t like a few of the changes they make to gameplay. In particular, I don’t like being able to build more than one structure at a time. I know RA2 started it, but I didn’t like it in RA2, either. Being able to build a power-hungry defensive structure and the power plant to run it at the same time takes out some of the strategy, in my opinion.

Honestly, that part of the amendment is just horribly written. It reads like a rush job, which is probably was given it was written to remove/keep out former Confederates. There’s no mechanism in there to determine guilt or any definition of what constitutes insurrection or rebellion. Seceding, forming a new government, and declaring war on the US is obvious, but it doesn’t say what the minimum threshold actually is. The entire thing is just two sentences. This very comment has a similar word count.

How are you going to fuel it?

VindictiveJudge,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Might be able to use the uranium to heat water for a steam turbine generator.

VindictiveJudge,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Sure, but someone else was wanting to use the motorcycle engine as a generator. I feel like this is more practical since you don’t need to figure out how to get more fuel. Not that I have any idea what to do with a generator in that time period either way.

To be fair, the makeup department won that award and absolutely deserved it.

Are mostly bald apes with manes that are oddly good at throwing things not strange beasts?

VindictiveJudge,

The Tolkien way, too. Remember Gimli’s bit about people thinking there aren’t dwarf women because they can’t tell them from the men?

VindictiveJudge,

Can’t you just go into system settings and have it function as qwerty? You wouldn’t be able to hunt for a key, but if you touch type it shouldn’t matter.

I’m not sure I want completely vertical on a 502 variant, but angled maybe 30 degrees from where it is and the thumb buttons moved back a hair would be my ideal mouse.

That trend of shoving crafting into literally everything for a while was really irritating. Even with the great big empty MMO world, Dragon Age Inquisition would have been much more fun if I didn’t spend a good half hour after every expedition looking through the giant mountain of crafting-based loot I inevitably acquired.

VindictiveJudge,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Heart ripping mystics, the holy grail, and god exploding Nazis were all realistic enough for you, but aliens were a bridge too far?

It’s not about realism, it’s about consistency. Aliens in the fourth movie after religious mysticism in the first three is tonally and thematically inconsistent with the rest of the series unless you’re actually familiar with the century old pulp serials the movies are a throwback to.

For navigating a great big thing that benefits from two axis scrolling? Yes. For literally anything else a scroll wheel might be used for, like swapping weapons in games? No. The clickyness of the average scroll wheel is actually pretty useful and can’t really be applied to a trackball.

And they were based on 3.5e and 2e, respectively, both of which are far less balanced than 5e.

And as long as consoles remain cheaper than gaming systems. Sure, you can technically build a gaming computer for less than the cost of a PS5 or Series X, but the consoles will massively out-perform it.
