Microsoft announces a disc-less Xbox Series X console in white (www.theverge.com)

The new console option won’t include a disc drive, and will be entirely all-digital. Inside it’s identical to the Xbox Series X, with the same performance for existing Xbox games. This new white model will be available with 1TB of storage later this year, priced at $449.99....

I think that’s slightly critical of Damaris.

They are asking a question regarding something they do not understand.

It is a true statement that roads are used to transport goods and services.

They then simply ask who in the video is carrying goods and products into stores/homes, and how workers move goods from ports to the stores.

They don’t know how a system like this works when it comes to, for example, stocking a grocery store, because they have not worked or lived in a place with infrastructure like this.

It’s just ad hominem and poor practice to call someone blind when they aren’t familiar with something, particularly when they seem interested in how it works, and works contrary to convincing people of the cause.

If someone has worked with punch cards to program a computer all their life, and someone showed them software written the python programming language and they said:

“But the punch card is so that the computer can read in bytes to know what to do, in this text I don’t see any bytes, there’s nothing telling the computer if this is little endian or big endian, it all looks like a book. How does the text tell the computer what to do?”

Then my response would NOT be “Well the list comprehension here is yielding a range of numbers which are sent to the print function, and this class is acting as a signal handler. Aside from punch card brained, you’re also blind”.

My response would be a very happy opportunity to explain to them the benefits of a modern programming language versus punch cards, and how it works in comparison.

Unless this is a person known to be explicitly anti-bike and pro-car, it is bad to be this critical of them and works in no one’s favor.

You might also be interested in cron/crontab. You can schedule scripts/software to run at specific times of day, week, month, year etc.

Also if you want to learn more about the linux command line, three super useful commands for you are ‘man’, ‘help’ and ‘apropos’.

man followed by a command, like ‘man find’ will show you the manual pages for the command ‘find’, showing you how to use it.

In some cases man wont work for some commands, in those cases try ‘help theCommandThatDidntWorkWithMan’.

apropos followed by a query like ‘apropos network’ will show you any commands that have ‘network’ in their short description to help you find commands that you might want to use for something.

Astounding, apparently you can counter the findings of this paper which proves beyond reasonable doubt that google is progressively getting worse when it comes to returning reliable and accurate search engine results.

It depends on how the source categorized the information and how Microsoft classifies the Xbox One versus the Xbox One Series (whether as being two actual different consoles, or two versions of the same console.)

There is only one entry for anything related to Xbox One as far as I can see so I expect the 12 it notes are distributed across all versions of the Xbox One, or that there are 0 dedicated games for the Xbox One Series proper.

The source notes that for Mac there have been 2 exclusive games across all versions, and for Windows, there have been about 2560 across all versions. There doesn’t appear to be a listing for Linux unfortunately.

They actually made the load time worse with their update. Not by a little, by a fucking tonne. Going from any interior to outside now takes like a full minute and 30 seconds, its ridiculous.

Single player, but stalker Gamma scratches that same itch for me better than tarkov ever could and its completely free.

No worries. The cost here is disk space as GAMMA is built on top of the free Anomaly game. In total, it looks like its costing me 89.3 GB of storage on an NVME, and they do recommend an SSD at least for the games (that total includes S.T.A.L.K.E.R Anomaly, and GAMMA).

Anomaly can be obtained here www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-anomaly, and I believe you can get GAMMA from this discord discord.com/invite/stalker-gamma.

Follow the install instructions on the GAMMA discord when it comes to both Anomaly and GAMMA, they are pretty straight forward, and they have free support!

I think you would be impressed by the AI, it is some of the best enemy AI I have ever experienced. They peek corners just like a player would. The other day when I was playing, an enemy peeked a corner in front of me, shot me and immediately went back behind the corner. I walked into the building that they had peeked around and looked out of a window to see if I could spot them. The AI had backed up behind cover and was holding the corner they had peeked, not moving at all.

Never seen AI that smart in any game in my life, if I had walked around that corner, I would have been dead!

While the game is unforgiving and there is a fairly steep learning curve, it is one of the most incredible games I have played in my life, again, for free!

I bought Windows 11 early on so I’m still using it to justify the purchase on my desktop, but I moved my OEM licensed laptop over to Debian a few months ago.

Can confirm that as soon as Windows 11 is no longer supported or it gets slightly more ass, I’ll be moving my desktop over to Debian or Arch or something as well.

With the advent of gaming becoming so much more accessible on linux either through native support or through something like proton, I am very hard pressed to find any reason to stay.

AirVPN is pretty nice, they offer DNS and port forwarding services as well which is quite convenient if you need a human readable hostname for a device over the internet.

Got a few years for a really good price a while ago too, they occasionally have good sales.

They already fucked me on this years ago. One day I logged into Uplay and Battlefield 3 and my 2 other games were just fucking gone. Haven’t touched them with a 10 foot pole since.

It won’t work. Ever. VPN’s free and paid exist, File sharing exists, Torrents exist, AI pornography generators exist, freenet, tor, I2P all exist. There is no action a government could take that would have any true impact in this regard unless they made the use of the internet illegal, and even at that, it would create a black market in which such things could still be purchased as physical media.

All this does is allow government entities to infringe on privacy rights further by doing what they have always done - hiding behind children.
