jsomae,

Let’s not forget that for those looking for alternatives, a key feature of signal is/was its SMS integration.

I use silence, a fork of signal.

  • upside: it can still send and receive SMS messages!
  • downside: nobody else uses it, so it only does SMS as a result.
jsomae,

Oh they’ll be affected. Swim or sink.

jsomae,

More discussion on lemmy here, including how to enable gesture typing (I’m very impressed with the gesture typing)

jsomae,

There is probably a simple explanation for this. The previous keyboard I was using is FlorisBoard, which has very poor gesture typing in my opinion. This gesture typing is leagues better than FlorisBoard’s. So to me it feels like a sudden breath of fresh air.

jsomae,

Controlled opposition can criticize so long as it’s ineffective

jsomae,

I wouldn’t be surprised if police are jumpier/more trigger happy in the U.S. due to the increased prevalance of guns there. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if it had no effect (anyone could have a gun, after all).

jsomae,

Goebbels is not the first person to say this. An earlier quote comes from Upton Sinclair in 1918:

Not merely was my own mail opened, but the mail of all my relatives and friends—people residing in places as far apart as California and Florida. I recall the bland smile of a government official to whom I complained about this matter: ‘If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.’

Let’s be clear: the right to privacy is not a fascist dogma.

jsomae,

I don’t know how I got that so backward when I wrote that. Thanks for correcting me.

jsomae,

But were they watching in real time?
