Despite all my rage I’m still a rat refreshing this page.

I use arch btw

Credibly accused of being a fascist, liberal, commie, anarchist, child, boomer, pointlessly pedantic, and db0’s sockpuppet.

This guy is fucking terrifying. He’s rabbidly racist, ex cop, anti migrant.

He changed customs to “australian boarder farce” who’s logo was literally a faceless man in paramilitary outfit.

In his inaugural speech to parliament (you can read the transcript here: www.peterdutton.com.au/about/maiden-speech/) in 2002, a time of some pretty dark excesses of the court system and police murders he said "and I have seen the sickening behaviour displayed by people who, frankly, barely justify their existence in our sometimes over tolerant society. "

He literally thought that queensland in 2002 was over tolerant. We incarcerate the native people at one of the (if not the) highest rates in the world.

Over.

Tolerant.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Labor is fucking allergic to working with the greens because the greens have ideals.

Sure sometimes they’re a bit stupid but of the parties with a regular presence in the houses they’re the only ones not dragging us to hell.

I will happily stand up for the basic human rights of people who may despise me. They’re rights.

Even if someone thinks I’m awful, that doesn’t mean it’s ok to wipe them out. If they start harming people then it is appropriate to handle that however is prudent but I believe that people ought not be tried, convicted, and executed in someone’s head.

Besides, solidarity has a marvelous tendency to build bridges.

People have value, people can also behave monsterously and it can be a good thing if they stop which can include dying.

Human lives don’t have infinite value, that would be a position that would mean killing someone on a murderous rampage would be just as bad as letting them kill forever.

Two things can be true:

  • people should not be killed because of who they are and lives should be spared where possible

and

  • some people are harmful and it’s fine to want them to face some sort of consequences for that and/or die and stop being harmful.

Some were just born there. Idk if visiting the sins of ancestors on children clever. Defs needs to be some sort of reconciliation process and evening the wealth and land held by all who live there.

Nfi how this will happen. Truthtelling and reconciliation is barely happening in other colonial nations with significantly less oppression and hatred towards the native people :(

What the Kentucky fried fuck does this have to do with the price of beans?

Also just what? there are religions that have nothing to do with concepts of sin or karma or whatever.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That’s a bit melodramatic but we are facing problems on a rather unprecedented scale.

The connectedness of the world and the fragility of profit maximising economies means that local crises are global and there isn’t much slack to absorb shocks. We’re seeing that now with how badly we’ve dealt with a pandemic (not even a particularly bad one by historical standards) which is an expected event you must plan for. We’re seeing it as we get squeezed by rising insurance premiums as disasters become more likely and so on.

Maybe the Teflon in our teeth wont matter too much, maybe we will somehow address climate change without displacing hundreds of millions of people and the expected refugee crisis, maybe we’ll handle the resurgent fascism in western democracies but that doesn’t change that the system we’re in is fragile and people are stretched to their limits.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Bacteria take it out of the atmosphere slowly. It’s a certain rate per land, and due to the coastline paradox we know that the area of land is infinite.

Bluetooth 5 is actually high enough bandwidth to transmit pretty good sound.

Earbuds are sad though, but all things are compromises. Am I blissing out to Bach using my bone conduction earbuds? no it sounds kinda meh. It does let me not get hit by drivers or brick due to sweat damage listening to books on a run though so they’re good at what they’re trying to do.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeahup. Unless you’re compressing your own music or achiving you don’t need flac.

You’ll notice more setting up a good system properly and audio conditioning your room than high quality mp3 to flac.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I mean I have a media center off center in a room with 2 glass walls, one brick, and one gyprock. I obviously am not hanging towels over my beautiful windows.

Bluetooth 5, a 2.1 fosi amp, and some cheap Edifier speakers sounds completely fine on the couch 2 meters away. There’s no point putting in more effort imho because any subtle improvements are completely drowned out by echoes, dogs barking, neighbours mowing, the wind rattling doors and windows or whatever.

I am completely on side with people who think shitty earbuds with crackle or overpriced Logitech speakers are a sadness. I think most “audiophiles” are sucked in by marketing and very few are doing the necessary accoustic setup for most of what they’re buying to matter.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

it’s still pathetic though.

Minimum wage should be enough to support a family.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Aussie. I am Aussie, both are pathetic though.

The minimum someone should be paid is enough to support a full and happy life + retirement.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Kinda? I think basically everyone now is realising that CPI doesn’t properly account for living costs of the underclasses. Given the like widespread increases in homelessness we’re seeing and associated rent/mortgage stress.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I feel like anything that violates human dignity is unacceptable, and degrees only really make sense to determine if we can’t work on them all at once. Pointing out that things are worse in the USA is sort of like pointing out that there are people in war zones who’d love to be homeless in australia. There’s not really acceptable levels of human misery to dole out, particularly in one of the wealthiest per capita nations that have ever existed in all of human history.

Our education system is crumbling, our wages are completely fucked, our health system is collapsing, we’ve pillaged our infrastructure and natural resources. Like yeah, it’s worse in the USA but that doesn’t make it better.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There’s also those wild explosions of completely unnecessary violence.

Shooting past someone in shock’s head or decking a reporter for doing her job.

Renegade in mass effect is just the arsehole button. You’re not evil, you’re not even more effective, you’re just behaving antisocially.

you can still be a complete fucking psycho doing paragon. Like being corrupt as fuck about endorsements on the citadel.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Dude… she’s just doing her job. Like it sucks but hitting someone in the face is something you only do when you’re ok with killing them.

Yeah it’s a game but what sort of fucked up fantasy is that?

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I can’t remember, I thought it was just tabloid garbage not Nazi propaganda.

Also murder is a bit far

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah sure, so like shove her away or whatever but she’s no more frustrating than any of the myriad of obstructive people you encounter.

I’ve been hit in the face. It’s a fucking extreme thing to do to someone (source just trust me).

    I’m sitting here trying to come up with something to tease a seppo over but like all of the ways you guys stand out are so deeply tragic I can’t find a joke that doesn’t feel purely mean.

    Do you want a hug or something?

    edit: oh wait. It’s kinda funny how when you ask literally any human where they’re from they tell you country, except usaians who just give to two letter codes. So they do, the right thing but accidentally.

    naevaTheRat,
    @naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Damn sorry. Must have to grow a bit of a thick skin hey?

    You garden or anything? Go for bush walks? How’s it doing with winter ending?

    naevaTheRat,
    @naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Oh no way, I figured given that the day’s heat is gone here it’d be warming up for you lot over there. What are you thinking of growing? We’ve just finished some overperforming okra (I’m so over eating okra) and some underperforming tomatilloes and tomatoes (and habernaros that never even showed up! ).

    Bush walking is just walking in the bush. Yanks call it hiking? but it’s not multi day. It can be as short as an hour.

    naevaTheRat,
    @naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Are redbellies particularly dangerous? I’ve never heard of someone dying from one.

    We had some living in the bush near where we used to play. They never bothered us at all, cowardly little ones.

    I almost stepped on a young brown snake once when I was stoned, that was fun. Nothing sobers you up like the adrenaline your body puts out when you nearly got yourself killed. I was not anywhere where I could get medical attention in time.

    Brown snakes are grumpy fuckers, they chase where most let you leave. Not a fan.

    I would chime in but I don’t use predictive text as the very idea that a divine being could be predicted by an infernal device is blasphemy.

    Do not let the machines sully our tongue comrades, throw off the yolk and do not submit to heretical guidance.

    naevaTheRat,
    @naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    See! see what horrors even the affectation of automatic spelling correction can bring!

    Purge the machine from your life my friends. It will only lead you astray.

    naevaTheRat,
    @naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Jokes aside I actually fucking hate it when machines say stuff like “thank you for shopping here” in that anodyne voice that’s the aural equivalent of greige.

    A machine cannot thank, thank you isn’t a magic spell. It is supposed to signal gratitude. Unless uttered by a thinking being it is a bastardisation of language.

    We watched the green Knight recently. At the end my wife (who is not a medieval nerd and doesn’t know the Arthurian stories) turned and said “that was agonising. nothing happened”.

    Now I need you to understand I love this woman. We have been together 15 years and I can think of nothing I want more than that time again threefold. Even so, even so.

    HOW DID SHE MISS HE WENT ON A JOURNEY TO LEARN THE KNIGHTLY VIRTUES? FUCKING HOW???

    He gets punished for failing to live up to them and rewarded when he fulfils them. Ugh!

    Anyway mediocre film btw. I enjoyed the retelling as Arthuriana is all about mixing and matching (lmao the French “eh, ve whilll aghd our ouwn Knight aaaand eee will be ze moist 'ansooom aaand ze moist skilled and eee whill erhm 'ow you say? cuckhold Arthwer”) but it was a bit glacial and the buildings were not painted garish colours so minus points for accuracy.

    edit: oh also they’re cowards for doing the high hairline beauty standard for women but not committing to the no eyebrows and lipless part. Face like the side of an egg! face like the side of an egg!

    naevaTheRat,
    @naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    They had a bit of a struggle as the poem it’s based on is basically just like “Oh and he had sooo many adventures. Soo many. Earned so much fame, oh it was the best time man. So fucking cool”

    Cutting the lord’s house short was a bit sad though, I get get that we’re massively less into threes than medieval people and the full thing would have dragged but more homoerotic tension and courtly love games is always fun. Plus I got so excited for the handy if they were keeping with the original (keeps sash, gives smooches). Could’ve been a fun ways to explore how differently sex and sexuality was conceived of too.

    naevaTheRat,
    @naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    There’s a podcast, it’s a bit formulaic and ad riddled, called myths and legends. They do a retelling of Gawain and the Green Knight and I think it’s quite good. Blends a few stories and adapts it for a modern audience. He also tends to interspere a few jokes and metacomments as he tells things which can help with some of the friction encountered when ancient stories are told in modern times.

    it’s a party based dark fantasy action rpg.

    It’s also a stat heavy build forward game where you can make completely broken characters for post game.

    It’s also a sprawling open world with relationship systems with benefits and dating.

    It’s got a cool pseudo multiplayer where you send your porn to other players and if they like your porn you get gifts. Oh sorry, pawn.

    you climb monsters which is cool.

    It’s also a game where fire is bane to wolves.

    My favourite weird food thing is that Japanese curry is a reinterpretation of UK curry which is in turn a reinterpretation of Indian curries.

    I love the circuitous route it took to hop north east a ways, and how distinct it is due to this.
