Vetinari IRL. From Soul Music by Terry Pratchett:

Besides, Lord Vetinari, the supreme ruler of Ankh-Morpork, rather liked music.

People wondered what sort of music would appeal to such a man. Highly formalized chamber music, possibly, or thunder-and-lightning opera scores.

In fact the kind of music he really liked was the kind that never got played. It ruined music, in his opinion, to torment it by involving it on dried skins, bits of dead cat, and lumps of metal hammered into wires and tubes. It ought to stay written down, on the page, in rows of little dots and crotchets all neatly caught between lines. Only there was it pure. It was when people started doing things with it that the rot set in. Much better to sit quietly in a room and read the sheets, with nothing between yourself and the mind of the composer but a scribble of ink. Having it played by sweaty fat men and people with hair in their ears and spit dribbling out of the end of their oboe… well, the idea made him shudder. Although not much, because he never did anything to extremes.

I’m fine with dynamic difficulty, if it’s something that the designers bake into the game, which is already done in many cases.

It is dumb as hell yeah. Well, probably smart in a business sense, because it’s an excuse to collect more minute-by-minute user metrics for a seemingly innocent purpose (when really you know it’s just going to be gamed to crank up engagement, and trick people into spending money - ie marketing)

Sexy Bowse(rule) (sh.itjust.works)

A comics style picture of Jack Black against a background of flames and smoke. He is wearing a Bowsette costume in the goth style, including horns, black nail polish, tight fitting shoulderless dress, and a pink crown. His hand is raised in a casual “Love you” hand signal, and he is sporting a triumphant/rebellious...

It was a huge shock to us all, all around the world, watching him go from attempting to run for president of the U.S., to actually attaining it. The best thing I can say for it, is that it shows that Americans have a genuine hunger for change. If it could just be directed in a productive way…

I can’t even imagine what earning double a living wage would have done to my psyche in my twenties. I’m middle aged and just now finding stability - and let me tell you, it wasn’t because I kept working hard. If I’d just kept working hard, I’d still be poor.

What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved?

I’ve been recently been thinking about Arkane Studio’s Prey which is a immersive sim, with a pretty good rogue like dlc, that probably has one of the strongest hooks of any game I’ve played. If you liked Halflife, System Shock, or Deus Ex it’s definitely worth a play....

Also in the 7/10 but satisfying shooter category: Rogue Trooper

Outer Worlds is an actual work of art that still manages to play and feel great.

Ah that’s too bad to hear, it felt just right on PS4

If you like short, steampunk SNES-style RPGs, give dystopian freebie Franzen a shot (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

After a draining day's reportage upon the thoroughly alien doings of vast corporate publishers, I like nothing better than to flee, blabbing and weeping, into the arms of a micro-RPG. Scumhead's Franzen - released a few days ago on Steam and Itch - has a couple of big draws, straight off the bat. Firstly and least importantly,...

Alright, I definitely will! This looks exactly up my alley.

whats your unconcious sign that you really really like the game you are playing

So i just noticed that when i really like the game at some point i will at once play the game and watch the stream/youtube wideo of the game( usualy speedrun or aome hardcore challenge). I noticed it recently with anno 1800 but now that i think about it i did that with tales of arise, eu4 ,kings bounty, total war, hades and...

Similarly, it’s if I really start looking at the scenery. Like zooming in on desks and and where textures meet and stuff to a) see all the worldbuilding details, and b) to see the level designer / env artist’s work up closer.

Microsoft documents leak new Bethesda games, including an Oblivion remaster (www.theverge.com)

Remember that these were estimates from more than three years ago and before Microsoft completed its acquisition of ZeniMax in March 2021, so there’s always the chance that some of these plans have changed dramatically or been scrapped entirely. But they may provide an early look at some of the games we can look forward to...

I mean that looks legit. I’ve got no nostalgia at play here, having never seen that intro before.

Whoa is that what they looked like originally? It’s been so long since I saw a new one…
