Controversial take but having the industry fixed at $60 only will increasingly encourage predatory models as inflation continues. Price should be reflective of the quality and content of a product, not a fixed standard.
Gun shows are a massive loophole in existing background check requirements for purchasing from stores, because sales there are instead classified as private sales.
Not all sales at a gun show are private sales. Specifically those from a FFL (Federal Firearms Licenced Dealer). The federal law when first enacted specifically excluded private transfer for commerce clause reasons.
Even if you’re purchasing from a business at the show.
As mentioned above this is inaccurate. If you buy a firearm from a dealer at a gun show sans background check both you and the dealer have committed a crime.
And private sales aren’t required to run background checks.
This is true of actual private sales on the federal level. But several states have further restrictions requiring them.
I replied to the other guy but checks are required on all sales from a dealer. They are not required, under federal law, in sales from your average joe. But some states have tighter restrictions.
The location being a gun show has no relevance on the legal status under fed law for these transactions.
NICS checks are background checks, when people fill out a Form 4473 in a gun store that is for the NICS check. They are required on all sales from dealers (even at gun shows). They are not required (barring tighter state regulations) from private non-dealers.
In practical (non legal) terms possibly if it was an actual private party and not a licensed dealer.
Alien is definitely a unique way of putting it. I guess it makes sense in that they are “alien to the nation”. But If I were to ever be forced to move to a different country I’d probably go by ex-pat.
Although I’d say we have more of a culture (increasingly so) of acknowledging immigrants as Americans first. Probably due to the whole melting pot thing. My view of it is anyone who immigrate to the US is an American. But if I moved to another country, like Japan, I don’t think they’d consider me Japanese.
Also that reminds me alien ≠ immigrant. Aliens would be people in the country either temporarily or illegally. Someone who got a green card by marrying an American wouldn’t be an alien for example. If you do the whole immigration thing you’re just an American not an alien.
Maybe it could be a benefit for asking questions to NPCs devs didn’t think you’d want to ask that. Like asking a city resident where the market is. Probably not today but perhaps one day.
To be fair to the other guy, most Americans are probably more familiar w/ DC’s trees than Washington’s. DC is a common school trip location for much of the East Coast and the cherry blossoms are right across from the Jefferson Memorial.
I think this might be an East v. West debate. On the East Coast I thought the exact opposite. This is the first time I’m hearing about WA & Japan’s connection. But hey, I’m glad I learned something today.
Contracting someone to use an artwork they made of your character would implicitly grant a license for them to make commercial profit off of that transaction.
Might be an unpopular take but the Red Dead Redemption 2 campaign. I’ve tried twice to start a second campaign but it’s so slow. The first time around the narrative carries it, so it doesn’t feel so slow. But knowing what happens next takes that away. The worst part is how ridged it is with mission failure/success conditions. It removes room for creative solutions.
This is not to say it wasn’t wonderful to play once. But it plays like they wanted to make a movie not a game.
Which video games have been trapped on a hardware platform (console/handheld/headset/etc.) that you wish would be ported well?
I was reading about Oculus accounts that haven't been assimilated into Meta accounts being erased, & it got me thinking about games trapped on hardware platforms again. What are some of the games you wish would have good ports across different hardware?
A visitor from the U.S. got more than they asked for at a Toronto hotel restaurant when they ordered a cheeseburger on Monday night that was served with a waiver on the side.
Reit007 said the server explained that because the kitchen at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites always cooks their burgers well-done, they should sign the waiver first.
The disgusting part of this story is a corporate mandate on well-done burgers.
Surely a company who makes a percentage of the total sale price would have no perverse incentive to create an algorithm that artificially sugar coats reviews. /s
I’m starting to find that HUDs in games clutter the screen and take away from being fully immersed in the game. I like games that force you to pay attention to what’s going on in the game and not numbers/markers on the edges of the display. What are some of your favorite games to play with no HUD? Here are a few of mine:...
I third this. It is an excellent no hud game because of all the diegetic elements, like the physical map or the filter time remaining being shown by your watch. Lots of games will have ui menus you have to go through. Metro doesn’t.
As a heterosexual man, the game went from utterly unplayable to game of the year. Magic I can suspend my disbelief for. But a lack of johnson physics? That’s a step too far.
LIS holds a special place in my heart, it was the very first character focused game I played/actually paid attention to while playing. Really beautiful game.
Hitman VR won the VR title despite being a bad port to the best of my knowledge. Because people without VR saw it as an option and said that sounds cool then picked it.
I really liked Far Cry 2, even playing a decade after launch. I’d be really interested in seeing a remake, in vr would be cool too. If you ever play it crank it to Infamous. It gives a real scrappy vibe to the game where you win due to cunning not strength, which not many games capture like FC2 did.
The only criticism/disclaimer I can give about the plot is that structure wise it’s different from most stories. The middle is composed of a bunch of events that don’t have any big impact on the major story. But I felt that it was done so in a tasteful way important to the ideas the game was trying to convey.
I played it a few years ago and distinctly remember not getting jams (maybe 2-3 the whole time) I was just conscious about ensuring my guns weren’t in disrepair.
I feel like Payday 2s sound track is underappreciated in general conversations about game music.
It has gotten a driving beat to it and instills both anxiety and courage. Not to mention how they have a system similar to the L4D2 Director system where the gameplay is perfectly matched and foreshadowed by the music.
