With the new Patch out, I’ve been replaying some more. Builds are definitely coming to mind as I’ve been planning stuff out. I figured I’d post my favorites here. I did post one of these previously on my startrek.website account but with that account deleted, the comment is too....
10 Abjuration Wizard/1 White Draconic Sorcerer/1 Tempest Cleric (build for Int/Con rather than Cha/Dex) is a good alternate for your CryoCannon. It just trades the Draconic damage rider for being unkillable by lvl 4.
Your Speedrunner build might want to trade 1 lvl of Gloomstalker for 1 lvl of Champion Fighter. Extra Crit range is quite a bit better than Natural Explorer/Favored Enemy.
The Flashbang is missing it’s major components: Luminous Armor and Callous Glow Ring, that turn it into a true AoE debuff shutdown build.
For other builds, some of my personal favorites are Eldritch Knight 11/War Cleric 1 built for Tavern Brawler (Lae’zel), Paladin 2/Swords Bard 10 (Minty), Thief 4/Swords Bard 6/Fighter 2 built for Sharpshooter (Astarion), Wildheart Barbarian 8/Thief 4 built Bear/Stallion (unkillable) or Tiger/Tiger (insane damage) with GWM (Karlach), Conjuration Wizard 11/Storm Sorc 1 as a control build(Gale), Necromancy Wizard 6/Life 4/Spore 2 unkillable nearly infinite necrotic damage (Gale), Hunter 11/War Cleric 1 built for Punch Drunk Bastard for insane AoE damage (Minsc).
There is a slight difference in power lvls between the two parties, one is lvl 6-7 and fresh off defeating a goblin camp and the other is effectively lvl 34 that just finished killing a Demon Lord in the Abyss.
Tipped wages cover about 35 cents of service per menu item, ie your time at a checkout stand. If you got more than that you need to tip or expect to be ignored.
Tipped min wage in the US is $2.35/hr, and less in other parts of the world that still tip. The menu price covers about 35 cents worth of service outside of really high end restaurants (and these will invite you not to return if you stiff on the tip). That doesn’t even cover the 4 mandatory visits from staff: seating, orders for 3 max, service, and billing. 15% is the rate for regulars, ie you are in 3+ times per month.
If you can’t afford to pay for service don’t go out to eat, get take out.
I don’t. I work for an engineering firm and can afford to pay for service so that when I walk into a restaurant I get seated and asked if I want my usual. That costs money and courtesy.
I also know that when someone else stands at the sign waiting to be seated for 2 hrs that happens for a reason. Typically the one I outlined above.
I’m on my 4th campaign (2nd honour mode) and I still have yet to actually use the flask! I’m just starting Act 3 in this playthrough, but I’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions for the flask
SpoilerFor most of the game the Iron Flask’s Spectator is a High Risk/High Reward item that isn’t really worth using since the risk is just a little too high. That said, by Act 3 the enemies that you face and their number transform it to Low Risk/High Reward since they have a really good chance of killing it in 2-3 rounds. Two fights in particular benefit from using the Spectator to tie down enemies: The battle with the Wizard in the Lower City Sewers and the Battle in the Courtyard leading to the Elder Brain. For the first in the Lower City Sewers the battlefield is split by a bunch of bridges and has a bunch of difficult terrain. Just toss the Flask onto one of the bridges and let it lock down 1/4-1/3 of the enemies in the fight. The Courtyard fight has a similar logic but here it’s just numbers. If you position it in the upper left courtyard it can lock down the whole left side for almost two rounds before they kill it. Using the flask during the fight to protect Isobel at the Last Light Inn would probably be the most unhinged. Kinda like throwing a grenade into a room full of hostages.
I’m currently on my honour run and much to my dismay I can’t stop role playing. I’m playing a Githyanki monk. So far I’ve staked Astarion, dismissed Gale and refused all Illithid powers. All because it made sense for my character. And apart from Astarion these are things that can be quite useful with the increased...
Honor Mode while much harder than Tactician isn’t actually hard for most CRPG veterans.
I love it. It’s almost a Hard Mode. And the Legendary Actions actually add a verisimilitude of difficulty to boss fights. The Game is intended to be role played and gives items to simulate compensation of the loss of companions.
Gaining Minty with a full party is supposed to take work.
If you’ve staked Astarion though you have killed your most powerful companion based on starting stats.
spoilerThey don’t get Radiant Retort until Raphael draws souls, so you just swap out the helm and pop the Radiant AoE on round 1. You can end up with 9 stacks from one AoE which is more than enough to cover the rest of the fight.
It’s a skill monkey, sniper DPR, and buff bot rolled into one with action economy for days. Even with the Double Hand Xbow nerf this is still ridiculously powerful. I legitimately had issues playing anything else after the run that used this, because while there are builds that can match it for damage, nothing else is going to compare for skill checks.
The build is the definition of Main Character Syndrome.
Luminous Armor is one of the items in contention for best in game, and only avoids taking it outright due to Helmet of Arcane Acuity. Both are incredible since they mess with 5e’s bounded accuracy system. I personally wouldn’t allow either at my table but Larian giving them to us is soooooo much fun.
Seriously a Light Cleric with Luminous Armor only has a 1/400 chance of being hit from lvl 5 on. And they give that same ratio to their party at lvl 6. It’s broken.
I’m assuming Thief/Champion for pure Martial. Why not 8/4? SA is only once per turn so the extra 1d6(3.5) damage isn’t doing much compared with SS or extra accuracy.
My goto Minty build is Paladin 2/Swords Bard 8/Tempest Cleric 2. There are only three enemies it isn’t able to oneshot. 5th lvl spell slots on a Paladin in a 12th lvl campaign is brutal.
It’s one of the builds in contention for equivalent damage that I was talking about. It just falls slightly short in the non-Cha skill checks and having to close with enemies in a campaign with large and vertical diverse maps.
Sometimes the winner is so far out of the park it’s measured with an astrolabe. The margin of error being so insignificant to be irrelevant to the equation.
I mean what would you tell an ex that summoned an orb that wanted to eat you (not in the sexy way)?
Gale did the equivalent of a Chernobyl meltdown in his lab. Except instead of a nuclear meltdown it’s a bomb that feeds on magic and will EAT Mystra if given an opportunity.
Dude fucked up. Big time. And a pretty big portion of him died with the bond, he isn’t really a Wizard anymore, that got eaten. His magic is the leftover remnants after the orb ate him.
Have been really enjoying my time with bg3. Sitting at about 200 hours, yet to finish love restarting and doing new class combos too much. Furthest I’ve gone is beginning of act 3....
It’s an Armour of Agathys retaliation damage build. So it isn’t really a typical Wizard build.
The combo of AoA, Create Water, Heavy Armor Master, and Arcane Ward results in a build that is capable of dealing 60 damage anytime they are hit and have to take over 60 damage in one turn in order for enemies to get through their Ward and Temp HP. Once you factor in high AC from HA and damage reduction abilities, enemies just can’t get through that much Temp HP/Ward without killing themselves first.
It does tend to work better on solo runs as enemies really, really, really don’t want to attack the character with this build and will tend to target anything else to avoid doing so.
You can block the element behind the player with the UBlock Origin element picker and it won’t comeback. I took the time to build this into my UBlock filters list since I regularly use their shitty WotR Wiki. I would kill for a good WotR Wiki.
I almost caused a TPK in a big fight right now by dropping ice storm on top of my team. Everyone still took massive damage, and it killed Shadowheart’s divine guardian which she had just casted. Read your spells carefully before assuming it’s safe to cast them on top of your party!
It depends what you are going for. Skill Monkey, maybe not as Reliable Talent is quite good.
But if you are looking to maximize combat effectiveness you will need 5-6 lvls in another martial/Gish class since Rogue is the only martial that doesn’t get extra attack.
The reason you are seeing Rogue on this list so much though is that it’s kinda amazing for multiclassing. It’s first 4 lvls are incredibly feature rich in ways that are good for basically every martial class and some caster builds.
Oh no, you are showing the first signs of Restartitis. This disease is incredibly contagious and currently at epidemic levels in the CRPG community. Good luck my friend.
A DC 30 check in the DMG is considered Nearly Impossible. If it seems unfair it’s because you aren’t supposed to be able to make the check unless the character is literally built for it.
All Charm does is grant Advantage (roll twice and take the best). This will make you more likely to roll a Nat 20, but won’t help you hit 30 otherwise.
That said if you do build for it you can get a +17 to +30 with the right buffs(+6 Cha Mod+4 Proficiency+4 Expertise+1d4 Guidance+1d4 Bless+1d8 Bardic Inspiration).
I’ve had good results with Duluth Trading Company. Some of their stuff is still 100% Cotton or Wool, and even the synthetic stuff is heavy and durable.
Sneaking is op because you can start a battle with a sneak attack from Astarion and then the combat tracker is just Astarion and the enemies that saw him, or maybe only the little pillar of light that shows up....
So the current stealth mechanics are definitely powerful, and if you wanted to you could solo the game with a Gloomstalker 5/Assassin 7 (though Thief 7 would still be better most of the time) extremely easily.
I never really bothered with it after Act 1 though. The game gives abilities, items, and consumables that break the action economy and increase damage beyond what could be considered reasonable for the levels at play. These items/abilities are also much less tedious to use than all of the setup work that goes into positioning the party for the type of ambush situations you describe.
That means it mostly comes down to how you want to play it. You want to be a sneaky boy, great you can and the game even rewards you for that type of playstyle. I don’t really think it’s broken though, unless you happen to be of the opinion that the whole combat system is broken, since it seems to follow the game’s design philosophy of giving tools, a sandbox, and seeing what we make of it.
For a full stealth party I would run a Gloomstalker 5/Thief 7 Sharpshooter, Battlemaster 11/Rogue 1 TavernBrawler/Drunken Equipment, Draconic Sorcerer 11/Wizard or Cleric 1 Magic Missile caster, Tigerheart 8/Thief 4 DexGWM Cleave.
There are about 5 ingredients like Corpse Roses where the extract can only be used for a secondary ingredient while the unextracted ingredient is used to create the Potion/Elixir/Coating.
