pyrflie,

If you like brown starfish for dipping sauce that’s on you.

pyrflie,

Daeran, Nenio, Regongar, and Jubilost are legitimately some of my favorite characters in the CRPG revival. Owlcat’s Pathfinder games are fantastic.

pyrflie, (edited )

Play on Normal difficulty and with something full BAB that gets an Animal Companion. Mounted Melee Demonslayer Ranger or Cavalier will make the game system much easier to understand for your first playthrough.

If you need help with a build or tactics feel free to message me. I actually really miss r/Pathfinder_Kingmaker and helping new players get into the game.

pyrflie,

For modern CRPGs, I would add Tyranny to this list. It deserves so much more love than it got.

The Edicts and Archons are one of a kind for the genre. And that’s even before we get into the beauty of it’s magic system.

pyrflie,

“They say ‘you are what you eat’. I’m gonna be a real boy.”

pyrflie,

The nose didn’t grow. That’s the scary part.

pyrflie,

Probably cause no one want’s anything to do with you.

Self immolate on another thread; dead end.

pyrflie,

Isn’t this the point of empathy? Connecting and knowing how someone feels.

pyrflie, (edited )

Gotta post code. I ain’t eating this shit. - Me 1994

Aka send it to them.

pyrflie,

This situation is an example of idiots on both sides. The activist could have looked at Potato production in France and Filipino Farmers could have looked at the US South prior to enriched flour. Grow Golden Rice for export and it will become a commodity crop. I know several farmers in the US that would love to grow Golden Rice and no-one outside the Philippines can get the stuff due to the genetics group that is stupidly restricting it due to grain quantity. IF the Philippines doesn’t want it the rest of the world isn’t that dumb. You just got the money for humanitarian reasons you lucky fucks.

pyrflie,

Thankfully skippable logos and SRS are standard now. Devs won that round.

pyrflie,

Don’t trust her unless you are going Demon in which case she is probably your best ally.

pyrflie,

“You Betcha” moaned with a Wisconsin accent so thick you could cut it like cheddar.

pyrflie, (edited )

Let’s be fair to Minty, she has commandeered the car to go and pick you up at the cart stop because while she doesn’t understand your need to return it you are powerful and valuable to her (for the time being at least).

Edit: Also Astarion is mildly offended that you brought up the topic of returning the cart rather than leaving it in the parking lot angled down hill/wind to the most expensive car in the lot.

pyrflie,

I’ve completed two Honor Mode runs and the only thing I still haven’t done is kill those two friggin Cambions in the tutorial fight. It’s not too much more difficult than tactician, but the more restrictive action economy makes the round limit and increased HP more difficult to work through. Best I’ve done is get the last one down to 12 HP before the ship crashes.

The rest isn’t much more difficult than Tactician though. A couple of Legendary Actions and the single save restriction are more of an annoyance than difficulty increase.

For builds: Thief Rogue 4/Swords Bard 6/Fighter 2(MC or Astarion), Eldritch Knight 11/War Cleric 1(Lae’zel) or Wildheart Barbarian 8/Thief Rogue 4(Karlach), Light Cleric 11/Tempest Sorcerer 1(Shadowheart), and Abjuration Wizard 10/White Draconic Sorcerer 1/Tempest Cleric 1(Gale) make really short work of everything from lvl 5-6 on. There are less than 10 encounters in the game that this party can’t finish in 3 rounds at that point.

pyrflie,

Depends on the build, for an EK with Tavern Brawler you just won’t find better than the Returning Pike in two handed. Though late game the Dwarven Thrower (works for any race with Disguise Self) and Orphic Hammer are both crazy good versatile weapons.

GWM though. Early game I have to go with Doom Hammer. There are too many enemies vulnerable to bludgeoning damage and almost none that are resistant or immune. Plus the status to prevent healing shuts down so many boss abilities. Late game it gets outclassed by Balduran’s Giantslayer, the Hellfire Greataxe, and Silver Sword of the Astral Plane depending on the build.

Just found my new favourite combo using the illithid powers

So Half-illithid warlock Tav + storm cleric Shadowheart + Minthara hits like a truck apparently. Everyone has initiative bonuses, so first turn Minthara hastes Tav, Tav casts black hole to cluster all enemies together, then Hunger of Hadar’s them, Shadowheart then calls an upcasted Call Lightning with divine strike and...

pyrflie,

Try pairing it with Minsc as a STR/DEX Hunter with the Punch Drunk Bastard, Titanstring Bow, and Gloves of Belligerent Skies. You get better than the equivalent of 6th lvl Call Lightning as an attack.

Also Ascending the Tadpole in Act 1 (Monastery) means you can Haste the damage (Minsc in my earlier example) rather than Tav as Black Hole will become a Bonus Action.

pyrflie, (edited )

If you put your MC into the Zathisk rather than Lae’zel and pass all three saving throws your tadpole ascends allowing you to use your Illithid powers as a bonus action rather than action.

pyrflie,

Fuck Yellow Submarine.

A lot of the rest is pretty good by any estimation.

pyrflie,

Japan surrendered due to the Bomb drops. This prevented the invasion of Japan that would have resulted in the total eradication of life on those islands due to the US’s experience on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Japanese Isles would be glass statues without that surrender as the US would not risk troops and fire bombing would have done the job without the Nuke.

pyrflie,

The US would not have stopped without total surrender. That would not have come without massive loss of life. Whether or not more died to the bomb is a moot question. The better question is how many would have survived without it and would it have been classified as a genocide afterward.

There was no distinction between civilian and soldier on the eastern front after Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the civilians fought as combatants.

The Japanese still exist due to the bomb and the Emperor.

pyrflie,

Your hands were open it can’t have been too bad. Grip marks and pulled threads would have been worrying.

pyrflie,

I’ve only ever found 8 per run in something like 17 playthroughs. 3 in Act 2 and 5 in Act 3. That said Ive only done two loot goblin no alcohol runs.

pyrflie,

This is US distancing itself from the UN.

Not a smart decision considering international politics but understandable considering the fact that reconstruction failed.

US South and New Amsterdam needs to be restructured. Authoritarian governance will only result in revolt and species destruction at current technology levels.

pyrflie,

All this taught me is that cube rule is fundamentally flawed.

pyrflie,

That film I split when I squeeze my beloved sandwich while eating.

My true objection is the lack of sushi in sushi. It fails in self alignment.

All the food is good; but so much fails the carb rule.

pyrflie,

I truly love Tyranny.

If more games paid attention to it’s magic system and story trees it would be a very good thing.

pyrflie,

Dark Urge playthroughs are the highlight whether you repress or embrace.

pyrflie,

Dragon’s Dogma 2 shits the bed after being one of the most anticipated games of the year.

Coulda been great sought profit instead, receives neither.

I was suspicious when it was multiplayer only. This usually means the game will be shit.

Hamas Says Gaza Truce Possible 'Within 24 To 48 Hours' If Israel Accepts Terms (www.barrons.com)

“If Israel agrees to Hamas demands, which include the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid, that would pave the way for a (truce) agreement within the next 24 to 48 hours,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive issue, as negotiations were...

pyrflie,

Bibi doesn’t give a shit about Biden, but Israel better start giving a shit about the US. We have propped them up for well over 70 years, and the sentiment is swinging toward Gaza as a preview for Israel. We don’t really want them dead but their safety is rapidly diminishing as OUR priority. Israel only had marginal popularity in the US at the best of times, making themselves the heel was not smart.

Right now we want to wash our hands of several of our middle eastern baggage states. Israel is a 3.5 billion per year financial burden and a regional soft power liability we inherited from France and England after WW2. Bibi is giving us the perfect excuse to sever existing treaties.

They want to kill all Palestinians cool, they can do it on their own permanently. It just means the US gets to cut a massive liability from their foreign relations.

pyrflie,

It’s a tradition in the speedrun community to make the dream guardian as ugly as possible and it’s expanded into other groups.

BG3 Builds: What are your favorites?

With the new Patch out, I’ve been replaying some more. Builds are definitely coming to mind as I’ve been planning stuff out. I figured I’d post my favorites here. I did post one of these previously on my startrek.website account but with that account deleted, the comment is too....

pyrflie, (edited )

10 Abjuration Wizard/1 White Draconic Sorcerer/1 Tempest Cleric (build for Int/Con rather than Cha/Dex) is a good alternate for your CryoCannon. It just trades the Draconic damage rider for being unkillable by lvl 4.

Your Speedrunner build might want to trade 1 lvl of Gloomstalker for 1 lvl of Champion Fighter. Extra Crit range is quite a bit better than Natural Explorer/Favored Enemy.

The Flashbang is missing it’s major components: Luminous Armor and Callous Glow Ring, that turn it into a true AoE debuff shutdown build.

For other builds, some of my personal favorites are Eldritch Knight 11/War Cleric 1 built for Tavern Brawler (Lae’zel), Paladin 2/Swords Bard 10 (Minty), Thief 4/Swords Bard 6/Fighter 2 built for Sharpshooter (Astarion), Wildheart Barbarian 8/Thief 4 built Bear/Stallion (unkillable) or Tiger/Tiger (insane damage) with GWM (Karlach), Conjuration Wizard 11/Storm Sorc 1 as a control build(Gale), Necromancy Wizard 6/Life 4/Spore 2 unkillable nearly infinite necrotic damage (Gale), Hunter 11/War Cleric 1 built for Punch Drunk Bastard for insane AoE damage (Minsc).

pyrflie, (edited )

Luminous Armor doesn’t cause damage it applies stacks of Radiating Orb in a 10’ radius around the target not the equipped character, so it works at range. It can generate multiple overlapping AoEs with a single ability use for 10+ stacks of Radiating Orb depending on enemy spacing. It’s probably one of the strongest armors in the game. That said with the Gloves and Coruscation Ring equipped you will be limited to 9 stacks, if you unequip those be careful as the game will crash at about 40 stacks.

The Callous Glow Ring just makes it so that all of your damage sources deal radiant damage meaning more procs of Luminous Armor’s AoE debuff.

pyrflie,

These are your builds, cool. I’ve posted the changes, improvements, and alternatives I’ve found useful and fun. Improvements and alternates are posted for the community at large regardless of if you use them. That said your title asked for our favorites and invited interaction. If you haven’t min/maxed people are going to respond with fun, interesting, and powerful combinations you may not have thought of. I know I pickup and look for them in threads like this.

pyrflie,

There is a slight difference in power lvls between the two parties, one is lvl 6-7 and fresh off defeating a goblin camp and the other is effectively lvl 34 that just finished killing a Demon Lord in the Abyss.

pyrflie,

Tipped wages cover about 35 cents of service per menu item, ie your time at a checkout stand. If you got more than that you need to tip or expect to be ignored.

pyrflie,

Tipped min wage in the US is $2.35/hr, and less in other parts of the world that still tip. The menu price covers about 35 cents worth of service outside of really high end restaurants (and these will invite you not to return if you stiff on the tip). That doesn’t even cover the 4 mandatory visits from staff: seating, orders for 3 max, service, and billing. 15% is the rate for regulars, ie you are in 3+ times per month.

If you can’t afford to pay for service don’t go out to eat, get take out.

pyrflie,

Probably 2, maybe one at a nicer restaurant. If you’re in California or DC it might be lunch.

pyrflie,

I don’t. I work for an engineering firm and can afford to pay for service so that when I walk into a restaurant I get seated and asked if I want my usual. That costs money and courtesy.

I also know that when someone else stands at the sign waiting to be seated for 2 hrs that happens for a reason. Typically the one I outlined above.

pyrflie,

It’s really bad for gaming since the rotation of the wrist restricts the range of motion compared to palm grip standard mouse, never mind claw grip.

pyrflie,

“Why do I have to sign a waver every time I go in for an oil change?”

What's your favorite fight to use the Iron Flask? And what's the "best" fight to use it, and what's the most ridiculously unhinged situation to use it?

I’m on my 4th campaign (2nd honour mode) and I still have yet to actually use the flask! I’m just starting Act 3 in this playthrough, but I’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions for the flask

pyrflie,

SpoilerFor most of the game the Iron Flask’s Spectator is a High Risk/High Reward item that isn’t really worth using since the risk is just a little too high. That said, by Act 3 the enemies that you face and their number transform it to Low Risk/High Reward since they have a really good chance of killing it in 2-3 rounds. Two fights in particular benefit from using the Spectator to tie down enemies: The battle with the Wizard in the Lower City Sewers and the Battle in the Courtyard leading to the Elder Brain. For the first in the Lower City Sewers the battlefield is split by a bunch of bridges and has a bunch of difficult terrain. Just toss the Flask onto one of the bridges and let it lock down 1/4-1/3 of the enemies in the fight. The Courtyard fight has a similar logic but here it’s just numbers. If you position it in the upper left courtyard it can lock down the whole left side for almost two rounds before they kill it. Using the flask during the fight to protect Isobel at the Last Light Inn would probably be the most unhinged. Kinda like throwing a grenade into a room full of hostages.

pyrflie,

My goto Minty build is Paladin 2/Swords Bard 8/Tempest Cleric 2. There are only three enemies it isn’t able to oneshot. 5th lvl spell slots on a Paladin in a 12th lvl campaign is brutal.

It’s one of the builds in contention for equivalent damage that I was talking about. It just falls slightly short in the non-Cha skill checks and having to close with enemies in a campaign with large and vertical diverse maps.

pyrflie,

Hat of Fire Acuity is better for the build after further testing. It can build between 3-10x more charges per round. Everything else still works to perfection.
