What's wrong with the Saints Row reboot again?

I got it expecting to hate it, but as I kept playing, I found myself legitimately enjoying it. Not begrudgingly enjoying it, not enjoying it outside of one or two small details, but actually being engaged in the story and gameplay. Which leads me to wondering why people had a problem with this game in the first place again?

verysoft,

It's a shell of a game, it looks like an early prototype that was rushed out the door. And that's probably exactly what it is, it's an attempt at a quick cash grab using an old popular IP. If you enjoy it, that's fine, but let's not keep collectively lowering our acceptable standards.

verysoft,

Yeah, if you can, get a PC, they might cost more initially but they pay for themselves in the long run. No reason to own a console.

I bet Steam machines would do better if they were released now.

verysoft,

People defending CDPR when they completely lied about the product aha, consumers be crazy these days.

verysoft,

I guess we just imagined their trailers and dev interviews then aha

People get way too excited for any game, should always expect a pile of shit these days and just be pleasantly surprised instead. People are die hard fans of games like CP2077 before they even release, it's not good.

But expectations don't come from nowhere, a lot of the city stuff they were selling was like GTA, but the AI didn't even release at a 2004 San Andreas level, it's still not as good as GTA AI and that's just people walking/driving around convincingly. GTA V itself was 7 years old when CP2077 released, it's not surprising people were expecting a simulation of the world to be at least as good as that. I think their scope was too big, there was probs a lot of mismanagement behind the scenes. I don't know how they spent 8 years on it and it still turned out like it did, I guess we will never know what happened. The story is the only saving grace, they should have just delayed it and tried to make it a more linear story game and just abandon any RPG-esque/open world elements that were left.

Being critical of games is good, especially ones that completely shit the bed, defending it just leads to more of that in the future. I love BG3 for example, but it has it's fair share of issues that I can point out every time I play it. Why would I not want better products? Why settle for less? There's too much submissive consumerism these days.

verysoft,

HiRez being scummy? Well I never, thats not like them at all....

verysoft,

It won't have a large effect, but in previous examples of companies doing this, comments would lead me to believe more people who pirated end up buying the game to support the devs after trying it. It makes sense too, but same pirates are unlikely to buy anything that had denuvo and stuff shoved into it.

What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?

This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...

verysoft,

Still has the shitty locked camera though and lots of the same little issues DOS2 had. They are great games, so the small problems stick out a lot more.

verysoft,

The camera is very restrictive. Dos2 had a mod that unlocked the camera allowing you to zoom in or out as far as you wanted or tilt it as much as youd like and it made the game infinitely more enjoyable. It still got stuck on terrain like, but it was still better.

BG3 has the same camera, constantly getting stuck on or in terrain, cant handle elevation changes, cant zoom out, cant tilt far. The game just needs a free cam where I can look wherever I like without it colliding with terrain and objects, there's no reason for it to be so restrictive. Why build this beautiful world and then dont even let us look at it?

verysoft,

Probs cause they randomly buff/nerf stuff, so they keep them incase. Bungies own fault for having no idea what to do with the game changing systems constantly, so there's no easy way to get an exact item back once its dropped.

verysoft, (edited )

They are more watching than playing. All coming to pc anyway now, so could grab them super cheap eventually anyway if you really wanted.

verysoft,

Yeah, was more the point of why even buy consoles at this point if you really enjoy gaming. Consoles are great for quick plug and play sure, but with just minimal setup you can have a much better machine that pays for itself in the long run due to the cheaper games and lack of forced online subscriptions.

I agree, I don't think any exclusives are good enough to justify buying a specific console.

BattleBit Remastered is good fun but anti-cheat for Steam Deck & Linux is concerning (www.gamingonlinux.com)

BattleBit Remastered is the current game climbing the ranks on Steam, made by a tiny team of only 3 people it has regularly seen tens of thousands of players. It works on Steam Deck and desktop Linux but the anti-cheat may turn into a big problem.

verysoft,

Proton is useful for improving support for games so that more people may consider Linux, once Linux's market share grows then more official support will come. But Linux has bigger issues than games to solve before masses could adopt it outside of specific implementations e.g. SteamOS/ChromeOS.

verysoft,

Microsoft don't really get to dictate it beyond their own games. Vulkan already exists, it's on developers to use it and through use it will be improved. Nvidia is a problem, right now you really want an AMD card for Linux and Nvidia are not rushing to support it. Linux is forever maturing, which is why it will struggle to ever see wide-spread use, unless major players suddenly start support for it, but why would they, when the market share isn't worth it... and on and on it goes.

verysoft,

Its all about that PSP-1000. Still working fine to this day!
