There’s a fight looming over EU plans to extend access to the bloc for Ukrainian truckers

A renewed waiver for Ukrainian truckers to operate freely in the EU is causing tensions in Central Europe.

The EU is looking at extending the right of Ukrainian and Moldovan truckers to access the bloc, but the idea is raising hackles among European truckers.

In recent months, truckers have blocked border crossings with Ukraine in Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary to protest the existing measure, which allows shippers to carry cargo between Ukraine and an EU country without additional paperwork, but doesn’t allow Ukrainian truckers to pick up and drop off loads within the EU.

EU hauliers complain that those rules aren’t being followed.
