I have OnePlus 7 Pro that I successfully flashed with LineageOS 21 with MicroG. Do you have some interesting apps or ideas to take advantage of it? I thought of some Magisk modules. Maybe someone is more experience than me! This is the spare smartphone, the main one is GrapheneOS, so I don’t mind breaking stuff.
Google Play and their services are so tightly integrated with Android, no wonder GrapheneOS did their sandbox… However, I thought of doing the same with microG.
To me, that’s the funniest thing. I come from Linux and I want to have - let’s say administrator (root) of my Android, which is also Linux as far I know. I know the Android is praised for its security, but come on, I wish to have control over my system as a working System Admin. That’s the main purpose of my set-up. How come, any app can just check whether I have root or not? That’s some bullshit.
From the security standpoint, I think rooting is always against the security. That’s why DivestOS and GrapheneOS are against it, and it shouldn’t be tried. However, I was interested in Shizuku that also is some another hole to patch up when exploited.
Those are for snapshots not like data crawing. More like a backup your data tool than you fucked up but maybe something is written so you can have it back.
Yeah but backup is the most optimistic scenario. I’m looking for something that really bad happened and maybe the data wasn’t overwritten so I can find it and copy.
No problem, I’m glad you like it! I had with OSS Document Scanner too, but not with Image Toolbox.
The basic edit is fine in many Gallery apps if you’re looking for it. The Image Toolbox is fine with UI even modern, but when you look for quick edit I understand.
No worries, we all know that FOSS software is imperfect and not polished like some enormous alternatives like you’ve mentioned edit on Instagram… It’s mostly 1 main contribution up to 10 - 20 vs many very well-paid developers that were working on it until it works perfectly with spying. 😆
Magic Earth is a closed-source mobile app providing free worldwide navigation based on OpenStreetMap data and free speed cameras in 59 countries, available for no charge.
The concept of it wouldn’t require code, just some idea to implement that you don’t have to agree to do. I’m just trying to get your point and visualize through creativity and brainstorm.
I understand but just like one said “cybersec is just a panic control”. I don’t know if you are really really vulnerable especially when non-harden updated Firefox is more vulnerable and less secure than hardened a little outdated forks. If that’s not a crticial CVE I don’t see an issue on my GrapheneOS. Google could convince you not to use Firefox and use Chromium instead because they can control security for you not Mozilla so it also depends on perspective.
It is still hidden, but one of the reasons why the native Linux version is better than Proton.
Asynchronous saving
Many of you might not be aware that Factorio has support for saving your game in the background, without freezing while it does so. This feature is tucked away in the hidden settings and only works on macOS and Linux. This is one great example of taking advantage of a platform’s features to benefit the game, which would not be available to us if we simply went through Proton.
Asynchronous saving works by using the fork syscall to essentially duplicate the game. The primary instance - the one you interact with - continues playing, but the newly forked child runs the saving process then exits on completion. I have used it for many years and have never had issues, but the setting remains hidden because there are a few unsolved problems with it and it requires a significant amount of RAM to work.
I would love to promote this feature away from its hidden status in 2.0. If you are playing on Linux or macOS, please enable asynchronous saving (ctrl+alt+click Settings -> “The rest” -> non-blocking-saving) and report any issues you find. I am particularly interested in reproducing a seemingly random freeze that occurs at the end of the process. Thank you in advance!

Do you have your favorite Linux restoring / data craving tools for Linux?
I found these: Scalpel - but no longer maintaned. PhotoRec - but I don’t know how well it works with Btrfs....
