Climate protesters can't rely on beliefs in criminal damage cases, UK court rules (news.yahoo.com)

LONDON (Reuters) - Environmental activists accused of criminal damage cannot rely on their political or philosophical beliefs as a defence, London’s Court of Appeal ruled on Monday, raising the prospect of more protesters being convicted for direct action....

echo64,

I don’t think you understand the case. I think you’re just saying things out of complete ignorance. Which is fine it’s just a comment thread on a tiny website, but at some point, you should just go read up on the actual situation rather than continue to make statements out of ignorance, that doesn’t contribute to the conversation or benefit anyone.

echo64,

All this new news about the game must mean they are running out of money and need to drive more rubes into the wallet grinder

echo64,

Hope there’s no homophobic slurs in this one

echo64,

What’s the efficiency in taking 30% of almost all game sales on a platform? I know we all love valve, but the efficiency here is having a store that everyone has to use if they want to make sales at all.

echo64, (edited )

I’m a millennial, and the last pc I owned was around the left 4 dead 2 era. Consoles are doing ridiculously well right now, as is pc, everything is flourishing. anecdotal remarks don’t mean much.

echo64,

Yes, yes, they are. The Xbox should be in the absolute gutter with microsofts decisions over the past decade. The fact that it exists at all is a testament to how strong consoles are these days.

The switch is doing great. The ps5 is doing great. The Xbox still exists even though the Xbox One happened, and this is all in the face of the pc platform doing great.

echo64,

The downvotes are a combination of American propaganda working, and also everyone here is a mid to older millennial, genx tech bro, ergo hate the young people’s thing.

Don’t take it personally, downvotes mean nothing on lemmy, and it’s more a reflection of their inability to discuss points and just blind react to points that go against their propaganda influenced moral compass.

echo64,

I would argue that this is the opposite order. You want to take care of the people who actually hold power over you now, China has no power over you.

Look at what the eu has done. First control and regulate the local companies.

echo64,

Just at the cost of setting up the American version of china’s firewall, right?

It’s going to be weird for the rest of the world to have access to tiktok, but just America bans their citizens from accessing it. America really just isn’t so far from what it hates.

It’s also strange to see people championing a path towards this, it’s all good until they decide to ban the thing you don’t hate though right?

echo64,

Sir, this is a discussion platform. People leave text to have a discussion.

if you don’t want to, that’s okay. You don’t have to continue. Just don’t reply, you don’t need to leave a message like that, that’s just weird

echo64,

They aren’t banning a thing, they are banning a kind of a thing.

If they were banning social media you may have a point, they aren’t.

echo64,

It’s funny that the only app being banned, is the app that young people used to have a dramatic effect on American politics recently, first by blocking the red wave, then by tanking democratic polling thanks to their support for genocide.

It’s funny that Twitter or Facebook, which is absolutely full of outside influence on America, isn’t banned. The Russian and Chinese bot networks can live forever there, that’s fine.

echo64,

One of the big reasons the ps5 usually beats out the Xbox hardware, despite worse hardware by the numbers, is because of this kind of thinking.

They built a custom ssd controller that the gpu has direct access to. This means when something needs to happen involving the ssd and gpu, the gpu can just directly access the memory it needs to without needing to wait on the cpu.

Just let the gpu do what it does best without having to wait on the cpu, and everything is going to go so much smoother.

echo64,

Eh in a way, dma is like the cpu offloading to another chip. What sony did is make the gpu not need the cpu to use dma

echo64,

Switch emulation would be 1/10th of where it is now without it.

echo64,

They are still running afowl of the anti circumvention rules in the dmca. Just saying you have to provide your own keys isn’t enough.

A switch emulator that wants to be safe from nintendo has to have no capability of circumventing the copyright protection mechanisms nintendo employs.

Look at vlc for inspiration. It can play blurays, it can’t circumvent the copyright protection of blurays. But if you provide the keys and the library that decodes the content then it can play them just fine. This keeps vlc safe.

echo64,

Like you already pointed out there are ways for the library to stay safe, the important point is being disconnected from the emulator.

echo64,

Sorry but it’s not wrong. The anti circumvention clause in the drmc was the direct complaint from nintendo against yuzu. Please research that clause and the legal prior art, especially against decss. I’ve had this conversation too many times to repeat it again.

echo64,

It’s worth noting that many countries around the world have their own versions of the anti circumvention clause of the dmca.

echo64,

I’m just tired of explaining it over ten comments in a thread, I’m sorry I can’t just give you all the answers you want. I’ve my own stuff going on. I hope I gave you enough information to go find out the answers.

Star Citizen's first-person shooting is getting backpack-reloading, dynamic crosshairs, procedural recoil, and other improvements to 'bring the FPS combat to AAA standard' (www.pcgamer.com)

Well, I mean, I would have launched it first (as an AAA game), but I’m no game developer. 🤷 And neither are they, from the looks of it. Good at perpetually raking in money for himself and his family, though!

echo64,

Star citizen exploits its userbase with a never-ending drip feed of bite-sized consumables, just as long as you keep feeding the machine.

This is not some poor little indie dev. They have taken over 600 million from they’re users, and have nothing finished to show for it. I treat them with the same distain that I do companies that trive on lootboxes and live services, as they all work from the same base template. At least the live service people made a game before squeezing every penny out of people.

echo64,

Xbox debates this constantly, famously (unconfirmed). The CEO wanted to end xbox after the xbox One Failure, with Spencer convincing him based on the merits of gamepass. After the original Xbox wasn’t a success, they had to consider then too, as well as when the red ring of death forced their hand on either abandoning the platform or investing billions into replacements for every single xbox 360 console sold thus far.

Every single xbox console has had some moment that Microsoft has had to decide if they should continue, and if it was a normal company that has to be profitable and balance its books, it would have folded a long time ago.

echo64,

We’re all mad about the emulation situation, but this is just silly. People really very much enjoy nintendo games now more than ever. Their player base is very very very satisfied

echo64,

Maybe start from a place of understanding rather than hostility and you might get somewhere.

echo64,

I’ll be honest Op, you’ve clearly already set your mind on hating this game. oh well, less fun things for you.

echo64,

Deviation games is not a playstation studio.

echo64,

Before getting all mad about bad articles, this is probably more a case of vanillaware not being able to afford to port right now and wanting to focus on what they know. It’ll likely come later

echo64,

America’s own great firewall is getting set up before our eyes. It’s funny how America’s distain for China just makes for an imitation.

echo64,

Not until the tiktok block we’re literally talking about

echo64,

I’m super excited for this game (or anything vanillaware) make, but damn the release schedule is just packed right now…

echo64,

whilst i’m happy for more people to have access to games, you really gotta wonder how many people are going to jump into this on xbox. It’s not no-one of course, but it’s not gonna be many

echo64,

Apple just isn’t good at playing this “control an entire industry” game as its contemporaries like Microsoft.

It’s “embrace, extend, extinguish”. But apples play seems to be more like the five stages of grief.

  • denial, the eu won’t ever force us to do a thing, we’re Apple! They wouldn’t.
  • anger, <- we are here
  • barginning
  • depression
  • acceptance.
echo64,

You have the freedom, if you have money. Otherwise you don’t. You just have the freedom to be homeless and starve

echo64,

Sooo… how does that relate to your point? That you can supposedly do what op is saying in America because freedom?

echo64,

If you’re looking for a samurai game, rather than a samurai themed game. Then there’s really no question, it’s Ghosts of Tsushima. It’s the closest thing we’ll likely ever have to a Akira Kurosawa game.

echo64,

A whole bunch of quests in elden ring were 100% broken for weeks after release. And there was performance problems. Let’s not pretend that their shit doesn’t stink the same as everyone else’s.

echo64,

everyone already talked about the games that came out the last month? you can find endless oodles of detailed information, you can go look at the critic ratings via metacritic/opencritic, you can go look at the last months worth of social media threads about games, it’s really endless

i don’t think there’s a lack of information there, I understand you’d like a compact packaged version (and i’m certain someone on youtube provides that if you go look) but It’s really not hard to understand why people would be more interested in a video about future unknowns, over just seeing what happened last month, which you probably already know, you were there.

echo64,

i mean lets be honest, you won’t want the video regardless. you just want the list in the description so that you can give your opinion without watching the video.

that’s okay, it’s a discussion forum, but lets be honest with ourselves.

echo64,

This project DOES NOT suppot piracy, you are required to source your own games and keys, we make no money off this project (mainly so that Nintendon’t sue us lol)

They do not understand what yuzu fell afowl of (it wasn’t the taking money). If they are still decrypting games, with or without keys, they are still infringing the dmca and will run into the same situation.

echo64,

you are required to source your own games and keys

please note the use of keys here, that means they are decrypting games, which means they are doing the same thing that yuzu got shutdown for. So no, I’m not Judging “too soon”.

echo64,

It’s been tested a few times before now, this is far from the first time it has come up.

echo64,

Nintendo had a clear path to victory in this case, it wasn’t a new idea that needed to be tested in court.

The yuzu devs really fucked up by adding in decryption to it. Without that, the emulator was totally safe, and likely why nintendo didn’t try and do this years ago.

If you’re making an emulator, or anything dealing with copywritten work. Don’t add things that break the copyright protection, nintendo can come for you then. It’s that simple.

echo64, (edited )

Fwiw, this is bigots harassing developers and then posting articles like this, avoiding all the details about their bigotry

echo64,

sounds like the patch is going to adjust things like lighting but not do anything about the resolution, so don’t get too excited

game looks too good in graphics mode to drop for performance

8bitdo Pro 2 controller with multiple Android devices

Hopefully someone on here has the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller and can answer my question: can it connect to Android-devices on more than just the A-channel on the 4-way bluetooth connection? I have two Android devices that i would like to have connected so I can just change the 4-way bluetooth slider to connect, is this possible?...

echo64,

are you sure that the pro 2 has a 4-way connection?

i read it as just a simple way of changing what mode the controller runs in, normally you have to select those different modes by holding down button combinations when enabling pairing mode. to me it looks like they just made those button combinations a switch. so it’s a switch, and only pairs to a single device.

i might be wrong, i don’t have one

echo64,

So, just to be clear. You seem to be a bigot. Who is trying to get everyone rilied up along with the other bigots.

Please stop pretending. its boring.

echo64,
