Haiti has a poor history when it comes to foreign military forces entering the nation to ‘help out’, and they have a valid reason to be wary.

2010s Haiti cholera outbreak

The suspected source of Vibrio cholerae in Haiti was the Artibonite River, from which most of the affected people had consumed the water. Each year, tens of thousands of Haitians bathe, wash their clothes and dishes, obtain drinking water, and recreate in this river, therefore resulting in high rates of exposure to Vibrio cholerae.

The cholera outbreak began nine months after January 2010 earthquake, leading some observers to wrongly suspect it was a result of the natural disaster. However, Haitians grew immediately suspicious of a UN peacekeeper base, home to Nepalese peacekeepers, positioned on a tributary of the Artibonite River. Neighboring farmers reported an undeniable stench of human feces coming from the base, to the extent that local Haitians began getting their drinking water upstream from the base.

Before the outbreak, no cases of cholera had been identified in Haiti for more than a century, and the Caribbean region as a whole had not been affected by the cholera outbreak originating in Peru in 1991. The population’s lack of prior exposure and acquired immunity contributed to the severity of the outbreak.

Haiti suffered 819,779 cases of cholera with 9,794 deaths

There is more than enough funding for healthcare.

No there isn’t. Gov’ts (both fed and prov) have consistently underfunded healthcare. Trudeau did try and help by giving billions to the provinces - tied to the provinces agreeing to spend ALL the money on healthcare - but the premiers stonewalled Trudeau and he caved. So provincial leaders get to spend those billions on whatever they want, just like the spoiled, snotty-nosed brats they’ve become.

COVOD’s (sic) a virus.

So is mpox.

It (COVID) does substantially better in cool, dry air, as do the majority.

You’re right here. But mpox isn’t spread through the air like COVID is. It’s spread through sexual and non-sexual contact.

You’re bullshitting about a virus with a 5% kill rate.

5% for adults, 10% for kids and a massive increase in miscarriages. So far more deaths than you say.

“A recipient must be personally present and under hostile fire while serving in an assigned infantry or SF primary duty in a unit actively engaged in ground combat with the enemy,” Army regulations stipulate.

“Personnel with other than an infantry or SF MOS [Special Forces Military Occupational Specialty] are not eligible, regardless of the circumstances.”

During the time of his service, the Lone Star rep was working as a civil affairs officer rather than an infantryman or Special Forces soldier, according to CBS.

So he was working in an office, not in combat, but thinks he ‘deserves’ to wear the combat badge anyway.

Classic example of selfish stupidity right there.

Not as big a difference as you think there is. Both are children needing love, acceptance, guidance and healing from massive traumas you can’t even begin to imagine.

girlfreddy, (edited )
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

Kids need love, acceptance and guidance from adults who are capable of that. If they don’t get that from those who should be giving it, they are open to abuse from those who will use and abuse them.

Those kids aren’t being recruited to murder anyone in the beginning. They’re being given the things they need, then they’re being manipulated to believe they owe their lives to the ones who gave it, and must do what they’re told to repay the debt.

Kids don’t have adult brains to think through the consequences of their choices. And the adults in charge of them, specifically politicians and other idjits who couldn’t give a rat’s ass about them most of the time, are failing those kids at every turn.

girlfreddy,
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

It all has to with with money, ie: if you invest in proper care for the kids = it costs more than just warehousing/condemning them to the bare minimum.
