Better graphics means much bigger budget and that means you’ll get writing for lowest common denominator of consumers as well as microtransactions to extract every last cent from them.

Weird week for endorsements. Digital Foundry endorses leprosy, Rich from Red Letter Media endorses baby fucking and now Mike Ybarra endorses pure evil.

I bet the suits that decided to kill Arkane Austin are the same suits that forced them to do a live service game.

  • Xbox Series X for backwards compatibility with enhanced visuals
  • Nintendo Switch for ports from other platforms on the go
  • Analogue Pocket + dock for actual retro stuff
  • DSi, N3DS, Vita for other portable needs

I don’t game on PC since I spend enough time with it at work.

It took less than 2 years to release BG2 after BG1. In the meantime Bioware licensed Infinity Engine to Black Isle who released Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale one year apart.

It took Larian 6 years to develop BG3 after Divinity 2. They moved on to their new game but that engine and assets could be similarily licensed to other studios to churn out some games using similar or simplified formula.

That’s certain but licensing engine could be additional revenue stream for Larian. They benefit from cRPG market becoming more mainstream too. And I’d kill for more games with couch coop implemented this well.

How to revitalize this sub?

I love the original patientgamers subreddit so I was stoked to find this community. And because lemmy seems to have a more knowledgeable crowd any topic I posted here had great engagement and discussions, despite the small community. I am too busy to be a mod but maybe I can help by sparking this discussion: what would be needed...

I could be very much wrong since it depends on what communities one subscribes to but I’m getting a feeling that activity on Lemmy is decreasing in general.

Lemmy 0.19 changed how monthly active users are counted (including upvotes) and lemmy.world upgraded to that version 3 months ago. I’d be more interested in post and comment counts.

Dang, I haven’t heard of this before and I still play Settlers II via Return to the Roots. Genuine thanks for sharing.
