Err… no it doesn’t. There are so many bug reports of neither HDR nor VRR working properly with the steam deck. My deck won’t even dock properly with my TV after recent updates.

It’s better than most other linuxes in the sense that it works sometimes I guess.

sosodev, (edited )

VRR isn’t supported by default by most distros. Just because it works with your setup doesn’t mean it works for others.

Also, this event seems to be primarily focused on AMD/Mesa support.

sosodev, (edited )

Thanks for the tip. I might have to try that. It was working mostly fine one day (no VRR) and then it was completely broken the next. :(

sosodev,

If they don’t want to support it that’s fine but they should stop releasing new micro transactions then

sosodev,

Is it right to push more gambling based micro transactions in a game that lacks actual support?

If this were any other company people would be raging

Those “updates” are pitiful. As far as I understand the vast majority of update content is still being supplied by the community. The game is still flooded by hackers with no word on when that will be addressed if ever.

sosodev,

I enjoyed it up until the ending. Good experience overall though.

sosodev,

The difference is that Steam sells a ton of copies every single day. The vast majority of Valve’s fortune has come from that fee. People jump to defend Steam but it’s already been established by lawsuits against other major corporations that a 30% cut is mostly driven by greed.

sosodev,

It’s confusing to you that manufacturing, shipping, and selling physical copies of a game was more expensive than digital distribution? The world is very different today. Digital distribution is the norm and everybody knows you don’t need 30% to make it sustainable.

sosodev,

Epic’s 12% doesn’t do much because they’re constantly burning money trying to find more revenue. It’s obvious they’re not doing anything efficiently. They also have far fewer sales than Steam which further hurts their bottom line.

The standard internet payment processors take 3% as their cut.

With modern cloud systems we can quickly distribute files globally for tiny amounts of money.

The truth is that Valve makes a ton of money off of this fee. It’s great that they contribute to open source projects but plenty of companies make similar contributions with a fraction of the resources.

sosodev,

Industry standard by massive corporations synonymous with corporate greed. Boy am I glad the fee decreases after $10m in sales. That will go a long way with helping out indie devs.

It’s okay to like Steam because they’ve provided us with a good way of purchasing and playing games. I like Steam but we don’t have defend things that are obviously greedy.

What did you think of Sea of Stars?

I thought that it was overall good fun. The battle system is excellent and the music is great. The characters are cool and generally quite enjoyable. However, the standard ending of the game really annoyed me. It’s totally anti-climactic. I really don’t want to go back and do a bunch of side quests (collectathon in...

sosodev,

The writing definitely feels very amateurish. Which I agree is a mismatch with the otherwise high quality nature of the game.

I like the overall themes though. It was serviceable enough for me.

sosodev,

Yeah… I’ll probably end up doing it eventually. It’s just really lame to get hyped for the final fight and be told “go do side quests for a few more hours and then come back.”

sosodev,

Oh no, that sucks. If you generally like turn based combat I would give it another go. The first few hours are fairly boring but there are some very cool battles later in the game.

sosodev,

That’s a good point about Resh’an. I kept expecting him to come back and be like “Sorry I left. This is still our best hope.”

Why do you say the true ending is a slap in the face?

sosodev,

Wait… there’s an extremely true ending?

sosodev,

These modifications are possible because the game has been decompiled back to modifiable source code. At this point they can add anything to the game with enough dedication.

sosodev,

They need the rom to dump the assets. They can’t legally redistribute those.

sosodev,

Guys he didn’t need any severance. Dude was already loaded with shares. He’s sold 421 million USD worth of shares over the past few years.

sosodev,

I understand. I guess I’m more so pointing out a number that we have already.

sosodev,

They already walked it back. The changes are fairly negligible at this point.
