warmaster,

Flatpaks are not centralized, Flathub is. You can have your own repo.

warmaster,

I don’t get it. Why would you store all of it? I mean, you can but… why?

warmaster,

Bottles can’t get any easier, seriously.

I'm going to reinstall linux on my computer. What is it like to run something Silverblue based these days ?

I have been using CachyOS for more than 6 months at this point and I’m pretty happy with it. Among the many distros I tried, this is probably my favourite arch based distro. I initially installed it because it offered Hyprland desktop, and I didn’t want to bring over my messy config nor did I want to start from scratch. But...

warmaster,

You mean Libre ARM or Libre-friendly ARM?

warmaster,

Yeah, I was thinking RISCV. There’s no thing such as libre ARM. Unless he was talking about Libre-friendly which could mean a proprietary SOC company submitting driver code to the kernel.

warmaster,

Bullshit words to feed us 100% live service crap.

warmaster,

Competitive FPS games on consoles. Like, what more can be said? Everything after that will be questionable. Whatever they do will be wrong and right, simultaneously.

warmaster,

I’ll just keep my excitement at bay until Micrisoft proves they didn’t fuck it up by something like requiring a constant online connection for the single player campaign like Black Ops 6.

warmaster,

Immich got bought by FUTO, how that plays in the long run remains to be seen.

warmaster,

This. For all we know, the app could be doing all kinds of nefarious things and we wouldn’t be able to tell.

warmaster,

Flash a USB, install the same way you did before: by using the whole disk and thus erasing whatever was in it before.

Have fun! Bazzite is probably the best gaming distro out there.

warmaster,

It’s the BS he needs to feed shareholders. I don’t think he even believes that to begin with.

warmaster,

Open Source is democratic through natural selection.

warmaster,

Projects that have a big community tend to last longer. If the project does things that alienate the users, the community shrinks, thus endangering the prohect’s future. The community can mean desktop users or businesses, doesn’t matter. My point is, users have a saying, wether devs like it or not.

How I taught my classmates about libre software (lemmy.ca)

In economics class, we had to present a business plan. Mine was a coding summer camp for kids. I said the mission was “creating a generation of people who can work towards a bright future for the world.” In the slide that lists aspects of supporting that mission, two items were “libre software” and “contributing”...

warmaster,

Congrats on such a cool project.

Why did you choose a semi-retro aesthetic? Personal preference?

warmaster, (edited )

You must be young. These things happened before and it will happen again. You see, PC Gaming cannot be killed, because it belongs to everyone. We will endure. If anything, it will hit harder on console shortages or lack of demand.

When smartphones hit their peak, there was a big memory shortage, this ended up affecting the PS5 launch as well as PC RAM sticks and GPUs.

When Microsoft tried to enforce the Windows Store during the Windows 8 lifecycle, Valve responded by creating the first iteration of Steam OS, they launched their initiative and failed. But MS took note and stopped trying to force the store on Windows 8. Valve distrusted MS, so they kept investing in Steam OS so that it could become what it is today.

When 3DFX GPUs were expensive, people favored consoles for one generation, but that passed too and PC gamers came back in droves.

You see, Playstation can go bankrupt and never make a console again, as it happened with SEGA, NEOGEO, ATARI, and more. Maybe it will happen to XBOX consoles in the future. But PC Gaming is the sum of a multitude of companies which cannot close shop simultaneously.

Will it hit us? Sure. But we will endure.

warmaster,

Can’t say it any better brother. Fuck this indeed.

warmaster,

Imagine a timeline where this happens.

What if there was an open source Steam clone, where everything is federated, and you could add repos like on KDE Discover, GNOME Software or F-DROID’s Android client?

This would be awesome.

warmaster,

Imagine plugging Flathub into this as a starting point. Also, if everything is federated, developers could sell directly. That’s one way to get them onboard.

warmaster,

Yes. But those would be able to chose whatever distributor fits them better. Humble, GOG, itchio, whatever… For the user it would all be the same.

warmaster,

Let’s hope they keep making good games after this change.

warmaster,

This is a niche within a niche within a niche. It’s a Mamushka niche.

If you are involved, I wish you the best. You are doing very noble work. My humble advise is that you promote it wherever you can to attract all the people you can. This project is awesome.

warmaster,

I agree completely. Now that I think about it, I tend to open games that are very fast to get in-game.

warmaster,

I hope this doesn’t end up abusing family sharing (it’s been just a few months since it became actually useful) to the point Valve nerfs it back to what it was.

warmaster,

TL;DR: Simultaneous library sharing. Before, only one user could use a library at a time. Now, up to 6 users can simultaneously play any game from the same library.

This is what Netris is touting users to exploit when they say:

Steam Library Sharing

Grant access to your Steam library, so everyone on your team can join in on the fun without additional purchases.

A “Team”, lol wut?

warmaster,

True. But I’m not saying otherwise.

warmaster,

Bigger in what sense ? I’m out of tge loop with this game.

warmaster,

Now Sony is starting to do the same. You just can’t sustain multiple gazillion dollar games with only one platform.

warmaster,

The most demanded products provide more monetization opportunities, or so they think.

warmaster,

Gollum II: “The Battle for Overwhelmingly Negative”

warmaster,

What way do you imagine would be more precise?

warmaster,

Do you know what really doesn’t exist?

A pure, HTML only, WYSIWYG text editor. Every text editor out there is either XML, JSON or Markdown based. HTML is the most widely adopted standard ever and is the best for storing content long term. People could write CSS themes, you could even add paged media support.

warmaster, (edited )

Nono. It’s just a Writer. Like, Word, or Google Docs. It’s easy to do. Like all those Markdown editors, but HTML. For notes, book writing, etc.

warmaster,

When I was a kid I was able to get the emeralds in all sonic games. Now, it feels harder than Dark Souls 🤣. Last time I played as Super Sonic was almost half a century ago.
