See, in order to assume his act was “crazy,” we have to start by making it a normative principle nobody should ever lay down their life for others. I think the divergence over whether his act was political or was he automatically crazy boils down to: are you a bootlicker?

There was that Islamophobic Buddhist monk who self-immolated in Sri Lanka in 2013 to protest Muslim butchers. People across the spectrum weighed in on the idea of burning yourself alive to protect cattle. I don’t recall anyone calling it crazy then. At most, reprehensible, misguided, etc. But the idea you’d kill yourself to protest the treatment of cattle/Muslim butchers wasn’t considered “crazy” at the time.

The line seems to be when you’d do it not just for cattle, but also for Palestinians? Is that the conclusion I’m supposed to draw? That’s when self-immolation starts becoming “crazy?”

IDK, he seemed pretty clear when he said that “the assurance of a certain minimum income for everyone, or a sort of floor below which nobody need fall even when he [sic] is unable to take care of himself, appears not only to be a wholly legitimate protection against a common risk to all, but a necessary part of the Great Society in which the individual no longer has specific claims on the members of the particular small group into which he was born.”

Unless the dependencies they compile in have reproducible builds set up, then you literally cannot expect binaries to compile the same bit-for-bit between different build environments. This is a known problem for tons of reasons, etc etc. Progress has been made on improving build practices, but there are still tons of projects that aren’t reproducible. Also, the checksums not matching could easily be caused by Ventoy developers enabling different compile-time flags on their builds than upstream builds, which is near the top of the list of reasons why you’d bother to provide your own builds to start with. There are literally like 500 legitimate reasons why their builds might have different checksums than upstream’s builds. Your accusation is nonsense unless you can do some more digging and prove there are unpublished modifications to their dependencies.
