Gaming is going to get worst thanks to these shameless executive leeches trying to please Shareholder Daddy and get his approval. They need to stop lying about infinite growth, ripping off the bandage is the fastest way to please Shareholders. The second faster way would be to enjoy the savings from jettisoning overcompensated executives. Purging studios is just a short term solution.

Yet another victim to pointless capitalism. Embracer are still no more than a cancer on the industry, trying to leech as much money as possible, while they still can

inclementimmigrant,

Yup. Just the crappy AAA gaming industry being their shitty selves yet again since they’re not true only ones by far screwing over developers to satisfy shareholder insanity for unlimited growth.

Imagine if the point of making a game was to make it fun instead of making the rich richer.

But what about poor CEO’s and investors?

Mango,

Wat they do?

A reminder that Microsoft coined the term “Embrace, Extend, Extinguish” and they are going to continue doing this on purpose

So Xbox bought the studio about 3 years ago and then just went ‘nah, not profitable.’ Fuck Xbox.

I’ve been through a similar process (as an employee) and all I can keep thinking is “Fuck you.” after every sentence this guy says.

Hi-Fi Rush might genuinely be one of my favorite games of all time.

These guys did great, and I’ll be thinking twice about any Xbox product I consider purchasing in the future.

The shareholders aren’t making enough money until every worker’s dreams are crushed.

frog,

Not even then. I think the thing that’s easy to forget about shareholders is they’re not doing this because they’re evil and get off on watching people suffer. They’re doing it because their own personal inadequacies are so vast that the only way they can cope with life is by trying to fill that enormous emotional hole with money. As a result, even when every other person on the planet has been crushed and ground into paste, and just one person with this mindset finally owns everything… it still won’t be enough for them. They will still be left with that unfillable emotional hole. They will still be empty inside.

I started to play a year ago, but dropped it pretty fast. Though I really liked it.

If they put in the effort and implement a good save game system and proper mouse/keyboard controls, they can have my money!

Spencer went on to say that while he personally didn’t like making the decision to close Tango, his job was ultimately to keep Xbox profitable.

Fuck off, Spencer. I can imagine there are other reasons why Xbox is struggling with profitability. Keeping games pass afloat by pushing day-1 releases for one, then spending obscene globs of money to buy exclusivity from massive, globally recognized franchises instead of investing in innovative new studios to foster a stable of great, fresh exclusives in the future.

Just curious, does anyone know which studios bought-out by Microsoft got better after being purchased?

Rayspekt,

Total BS. This is not about being profitable, it is about further increasing profits and growth for the shareholders. That’s the problem with any company that is traded publicly. A company that makes a lot of money and keeps all its customers and employees happy isn’t a good company if there isn’t as much money to be sucked out of it for the CEOs and shareholders. That’s why we are seeing all the layoffs. The gaming market isn’t growing so not they maximise profits by saving costs.

Yeah that sequel is never gonna happen huh. Every day you have headlines of a studio closure or a cancelled project, there’s no way they’re still devoting millions of dollars and man power to a sequel that has shown nothing

There is a legitimate reason why we may see “something” in the future.

Ubisoft accepted subsidies from the French government for the production of BGE2, which puts BGE2 in a similar place like “Skull and Bones”: “Skull and Bones” was partially financed by subsidies from the Singaporean government. So BGE2 is trapped in the same weird limbo “Skull and Bones” was trapped in for years. Ubisoft has to figure out whether they actually want to finish the game or write a big, fat check to the French government.

We all know how that turned out for “Skull and Bones”, so I am not going to get my hopes up.

What a shame. I wish all of them the best. They are not to blame for what went wrong

whostosay,

My shit post above aside, they all know each other, band together and make a hit, you already have the press.

bisby, to games in Tango Gameworks employee shares pictures from the Xbox studio’s final day. The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush studio has closed its doors

All Microsoft needs is a few award winning small dev studios…

whostosay,

Let’s just buy out one more bro, I swear just one more studio, dude listen if we just buy like one or two more studios I swear to God we wouldn’t even need to just buy out like 3 or more new studios.
