For me, Google video search, Google books (Internet Archive is good, but doesn’t always have the same stuff), Adobe InDesign (but in the process of learning LaTeX), and Typewise. As for the Google stuff, I liked Whoogle a lot, but almost all their instances seem to have been blocked or shut down. Also, apologies if this is...
For some reason I have it in the back of my mind that they were at one point accused of being a honeypot for US intelligence because of their association with MIT. Probably complete BS, but maybe not. Are they as open source as they claim to be? Looks like they’re on github. F-Droid seems to think they have some Google...
So I have just received a uconsole R-01 from a friend and while I mainly want to use it to learn how to code having a working browser would be nice....
A couple weeks ago Discord announced their plans to go down the IPO route. This means that there is now a ticking clock until the platform goes full-on enshittified like so many others before them....
Hi Beehaw! I’ve finally made the switch to Linux, I’m using Nobara OS based on Fedora. It’s been very nice so far (I had tried to go with Arch but Nvidia drivers ehhh). I’m running into issues remapping controls to my Xbox Adaptive Controller. Was hoping someone here might have some input....
I just tried osmand. It took forever to locate me and then the map would freeze for minutes, then the blue arrow would finally jump to my location. It seems useless for real time navigation, is that normal? Google maps works fine on the phone (Android) so it’s not the hardware. Is there maybe some setting I haven’t found?...
I’m setting up a laptop with Mint (Cinnamon) for a person who needs text-to-speech software. It seems like most of the nice-sounding ones are proprietary. Any recommendations for FOSS alternatives? And any ideas why this is an underdeveloped area for open source?
I’m looking for a FOSS image viewer on Linux that remembers the last visited image or lets me set a bookmark of some sort. Pix for example has the preference “Go to last visited location” - but that is just the folder, not the image itself. But I have folders with lots and lots of images that I work through day by day and...
are there any alternatives to zoom that have alot of features out of the box like live streaming to youtube support plus doesnt make you pay money to get extra features?
I’m looking for an image viewer on windows that also has some simple editing tools. I’ve been using nomacs for quite a while, which is exactly that, but editing images with this software can get pretty finicky, so I’m looking for an alternative....
I’m making this request on behalf of a community I’m part of, which has some fairly specific requirements that we’re struggling to fill. Basically, we’re an art and writing group that makes extensive use of building our own old-school webpages (almost exclusively HTML, some of us use some CSS as well). This group has...
Hello! I’m still not satisfied with my note taking app. I tried dozen of them, read tons of lists on random blogs on the internet, without any success. I’ll try to ask you then....
I recently passed my driving test and I need a music app that plays local files and can be controlled by google assistant for handsfree. I’ve been using AIMP for ages and its worked great but I can’t specify any songs or playlists via the assistant, I can only tell it to “play music on AIMP” and it plays whatever I was...
I’ve gotten a lot more into movie-watching over the past year or two, and I’m ready to move off of my Google Sheets list (I know, I know). The obvious platform is letterboxd, but is there really no established alternative in the fediverse?...
