That active war zone is the former Palestinian village al-Khalisa, “whose inhabitants had fled after Safed was taken by the Haganah during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War”.

Does Trump then sell BTC for USD on an exchange and then pay tax on it? Why didn’t the Winklevii just send USD?

I don’t get this use-case for BTC, overbanking the overbanked.

Photos and videos used to identify the bomb remnants were taken by journalist Alam Sadeq in Gaza, who visited the scene of the strike early on Monday.

That must have been the “tragic mistake” Netanyahu was talking about… leaving a journalist alive in Gaza.

The joint announcement by Spain, Ireland and Norway last week triggered an angry response from Israeli authorities, which summoned the countries’ ambassadors in Tel Aviv to the Foreign Ministry, where they were filmed while being shown videos of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and abductions.

Israel's far-right minister Smotrich calls to occupy Gaza, take over south Lebanon (www.haaretz.com)

Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on Sunday that the Israeli army should create a security zone in southern Lebanon should Hezbollah not heed an Israeli ultimatum to withdraw from the border area. He also called on the security cabinet to order a permanent military presence “in all of the Gaza Strip.”...

Outside Groups Spent $285,000 Backing Jamaal Bowman. AIPAC Alone Just Dropped Nearly $2 Million to Attack Him. (theintercept.com)

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s super PAC has launched its first ads attacking Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Democratic primary in New York’s 16th Congressional District. The ads claim that Bowman “has his own agenda” and refuses to work with President Joe Biden....

It’s sick how all Palestinans are referred to simply as “terrorists” by some Israelis, and not just those in the military.

This is a good question but I would just like to point out that 15 years ago nobody would have predicted that the questions we were asking and answering on stackoverflow would be used to train models (and that open source would have it’s license violated so brazenly) and that if you tried to delete your contributions because you didn’t want them to be used to train models you would get banned from the site, so even though adding a license to your comments might be meaningless, it might also be a powerful tool down the line. You never know how it’ll go.

What’s the credibility of mediabiasfactcheck.com?

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Lol yea, but is Dave M. Van Zandt really a Zionist? I hadn’t heard that.

My favorite part of their Wikipedia page is

Fact checks are carried out by independent reviewers who are associated with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) and follow the International Fact-Checking Network Fact-checkers’ Code of Principles, which was developed by the Poynter Institute.

Writers at the Poynter Institute, which develops PolitiFact,[24] have stated that “Media Bias/Fact Check is a widely cited source for news stories and even studies about misinformation, despite the fact that its method is in no way scientific.”

Secret Hamas Files Show How It Spied on Everyday Palestinians (www.nytimes.com)

The Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has for years overseen a secret police force in Gaza that conducted surveillance on everyday Palestinians and built files on young people, journalists and those who questioned the government, according to intelligence officials and a trove of internal documents reviewed by The New York Times....

I know they were funded in part by Israel to destroy Palestinian unity and give Israel an excuse to kill more Palestinians and take their land, but was Hamas really created by Israel?

And it’s not the first time NYT has run a direct propaganda piece. They have to do this once in a while for the Israeli government to reassert its hegemony over the narrative.

Yes, I know mediabiasfactcheck.com says NYT is excellent but that’s just a reflection on mediabiasfactcheck.com.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

they can promote certain perspectives while downplaying others

Exactly, and they have the reach to be very effective at controlling the narrative.

mondoweiss.net/…/palestinian-photog-says-nyt-fire…

“What is taking place is a systematic effort to distort the image of Palestinian journalists as being incapable of trustworthiness and integrity, simply because we cover the human rights violations that the Palestinian people undergo on a daily basis at hands of the Israeli army,” Salem wrote today on Facebook and Twitter, in a thread that has been widely retweeted, 5000 times this morning.

The case stands in stark contrast to the three Jewish reporters, Ethan Bronner, Isabel Kershner, and David Brooks, who carried on writing about the issue for the New York Times even when their children were enlisted in the Israeli Defense Forces.

The Israel lobby is massively invested in propaganda, like NGO monitor and the above linked “organization Honest Reporting, which exists to attack the Palestinian narrative in the west”. Not to mention ads on google, youtube, controlling the narrative on facebook, google again, twitter… the list goes on. And yeah, there’s app for that.

It’s kind of eerie how none of the protester’s demands address the genocide of Palestinians.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Did you read that page? Some of the protests were

  • Protest against humanitarian aid
  • Pro-war protests

The rest were to get the hostages back. Nothing remotely about peace or anti-genocide.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Did you read that page yet?

Israelis domestically and abroad have primarily called for the return of hostages held by Hamas.

Some of the protests were

  • Protest against humanitarian aid
  • Pro-war protests

Nothing remotely about peace or anti-genocide, or even to protest against what Israel is doing in Gaza, in fact:

On 9 November, Israeli police arrested former MK Mohammad Barakeh in Nazareth for attempting to organize an anti-war protest.[53]

The reason you have not seen “Israelis who have the courage to protest against what Israel is doing in Gaza” in the news is that it’s not happening.

Jews, on the other hand, have been getting locked up in droves (and since the beginning of the latest offensive) protesting Israel’s actions.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Apparently if you think the murder of a boy from hundreds of yards away is wrong, you’re “pro-Hamas”. They’re really working hard to make Hamas look like the good guys.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Zionists are using Jews as human shields. Actual Judeophobic incidents have increased in the past half year solely because of Israel’s actions, and I realized this when I saw a headline about a man that raped a Jewish woman “to avenge Palestine”. Also the agent provocateurs that the Israel lobby has been sending to college campuses create distrust among student groups, especially toward Jewish members. It’s a very sick act. Some groups that counter that negative force, though, are If Not Now and Jewish Voices for Peace.

Btw, it’s refreshing to read some sane, reality-based takes, so thank you guys for that.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Not only do they make Hamas look like the good guys, Israel has put the world into a position where Iran, a nation run by theocratic despots who brutalize women and sponsor terror, is the calmer actor in international missle attacks!

EXCLUSIVE: “You Have Been Warned”: Republican Senators Threaten the ICC Prosecutor over Possible Israel Arrest Warrants (zeteo.com)

A group of influential Republican senators has sent a letter to International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan, warning him not to issue international arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, and threatening him with “severe sanctions” if he does so....

There’s a difference between Jews and “the Jews”. Your comment is not at all incorrect but it doesn’t apply to the comment you responded to.

Some of the Israeli Jews that are commiting genocide right now are decendents of Holocaust survivors, so I would say the irony is definitely there.

The public vs private argument seems applicable, but a very important aspect is keeping the counter-protesters civil:

Private security guards with bikes separated the pro-Palestinian group from Israel supporters, and UCLA eventually added metal barricades after counter-protesters repeatedly tried to breach the encampment and in at least one case witnessed by The Times entered and shoved a woman to the ground.

Unlike at Northeastern.

Creating fear of losing your job or school place, stifling free speech for political gain, and gaslighting are psychological abuse and are used frequently in hasbara.

Not so fun fact about Ariel Sharon and the massacre at Sabra and Shatila:

As Minister of Defense, he directed the 1982 Lebanon War. An official enquiry found that he bore “personal responsibility” for the Sabra and Shatila massacre of Palestinian refugees, for which he became known as the “Butcher of Beirut” among Arabs.

He later became the 11th prime minister of Israel.

The video footage, originally posted on X by Working Mass, a Democratic Socialists of America media outlet covering Massachusetts, reveals two Jewish students holding an Israeli flag shouted the “Kill the Jews” after pro-Palestine demonstrators conducted a “mic check” — a call and response technique used to focus attention on an organizer.

The two pro-Israel counter protesters then asked the pro-Palestinian demonstrators if they agreed, saying “anybody on board; anybody for that?” The crowd of pro-Palestine protesters immediately started shouting and booing over them.

“You just chanted for it,” the pro-Israel counter protesters can be heard saying.

Gaslighting is psychological abuse and is used frequently in hasbara.
